I started playing violent games as 6-years old kid but it didn't affect me at all. I can separate games from reality.
Like what?
I used to play the matchbox fire trucks/police cars/ ambulance game.
All you do is drive, help drive to a bank, drive somewhere else, etc.
"SON, STEAL THAT GUY'S CAR!"
"No that's a crime"
*best citizen of San Andreas ever*
That was so fuckin cute to read.
At one such intersection he attempted to brake, but he was traveling too fast. Instead of plowing into the rear of the car ahead of him, he swerved to the right and popped up onto to sidewalk. In doing so, he accidently ran over a woman walking towards his oncoming car. He was incredibly ashamed of himself and profusely apologized.
“It’s okay. It’s only a game. It’s not real”, I reassured him. After a few minutes of me explaining the difference between a game and real life, he felt comfortable enough to continue playing
D'aawww
I grew up with violent movies/games, it didn't affect me at all.
Parents need to chill.
Who let my dad in the internet this time?
Edit: great I called myself 4 years old
First time I started GTA3 I stole a bus and tried to pick up hookers with it. Then again, I was 10.
besides only idiots think games have a psychological affect on anyone
A horror game could, aside from that though not really.
letting a four year old play GTA? lol
and one person does not account for the entire population. I like how the parent says, "he played GTA and never beat anyone with a bat!"
it's accepted by basically every psychologist that video games can have a psychological affect on kids
Said psychologists only want to take the money off of the soccer moms hands.
My dad let me play Twisted Metal as a kid. That game's a bit fucked up.
A horror game could, aside from that though not really.
I can't imagine four year old's having a taste for horror games anyway. I tried to play the Half Life campaign when I was 4 and they scared the piss out of me so just I didn't do it.
Even the multiplayer scared me somewhat, but I still played it.
to this day i feel remorse at times for killing a for people in games but only at the time of me doing it. Earlier today i was playing gta iv online with my friend, i started to mess around shooting people in the legs to watch them stumble about, one of the old ladies was freaking out and started screaming "i wish my husband was alive to help me" and i just stopped. Then my friend ran up with a shotgun and killed everyone.
Oh my god that made me feel bad just reading that.
I suppose, that's really what it all boils down to: a separation from the video game world to the real world.
This is the key to it. Some parents fail to do that.
Fuck this makes me what to play GTA.
[sp]And kill hookers[/sp]
He's going to grow up to be a local hero.
Said psychologists only want to take the money off of the soccer moms hands.
Not all psychologists are like that. Besides, some games do have a psychological effect on people, although those people tend to have psychological problems of their own.
My little brother plays Modern Warfare 2, Although he enjoys killing people in game he wont step on bugs or anything, unless they are red ants.. cause he saw what they did in Indiana Jones
I love GTA:SA. And FYI, that story is impossible. Hot Coffee mods are only available for the PC version. I have the PS2 version. And, shouldn't this be in the gaming forum? And, didn't I just win this argument? I believe I did.

Awwwww yeaaaaah
I remember when I played Medal of Honor: Rising Sun when I was nine. I'd always get really upset when one of the members of my team would die in the heat of battle, and then I'd restart the level until I managed to get everyone through alive.
There was always that great feeling of satisfaction, and relief when I would achieve finishing the level with my whole squad.
Still, GTA has no negative effects on any kids. Hell, I'm thirteen and I'm fine, I started playing GTA at age ten. Brb for a bit, I'm gonna carjack someone, have sex with a hooker, do a driveby and drink a Sprunk because DATZ WHUT ALL TEH ADULTZ SAY WE'LL DU

I do the same with SOCOM 3, Not so much out of sorrow, but if you have three teammates, that equates to more firepower than two. Simple tactics.

I recently rented god of war 3 and I feel the same way for some of the parts of it, when you have to kill Poseidon I tried to walk away but it didn't let me and I felt pretty bad for having to kill him because I read a book on him and he was a pretty cool guy. Same goes for 90% of the game when there's the random inocent people that you kill without a second thought. I just don't really want to kill them, it's not who I am, but I remember it's a game so I brutally slaughter them in the most unhumanly way after I notice there's no way around it.
A very similar thing happens to my 8 year old niece when she comes over. I showed her GTA IV and just let her play without me showing her much. She always tried to follow the rules of the road, even though she didn't completely know them.
This is exactly how I'm raising my little cousin, he's living with us because his parents died and my parents were his godparents. He's only like 5 mind you, let him play my SNES and he loved it, he saw me play Fallout 3 and he asked if he could play. I said sure and told him how to play, when he was off being the Messiah of the Wasteland, not once did he kill a friendly, not once did he steal, not once did he blow up Megaton(I let him have multiple saves.) He ended the game on Level 30 and was happy that I let him play the game, I am really proud of him. ESRB ratings are kind of off, they are like that for Mature people and crazy kids, not for really kind kids.
E.S.R.B. can kiss my A.S.S.
I remember playing video games VERY early on. I was always a sucker for being the good guy. Hell, I still am.
EDIT: Nothing is more satisfying than going to Paradise Falls and saying "I'll let my gun do the preaching" and slaying everyone there.

I do that as well, infact, early on in the game when my little cousin got a good gun, I sent him to Paradise Falls and he selected the option that let him just buy his way in, then when he was asleep I murdered them all so the slavers couldn't slave anymore. He didn't want to kill them so I did, then told him a Yao Guai got in and killed them.
I was 10 when I played gta sa, it really isnt that violent
i was 10 when spelling mattered. It really isn't that unimportant
I've played violent video games literally all my life, when I was like i dunno 4 my dad and godfather let me play vice city though I did play pacman immediately afterwords... But the only criminal urges I've ever gotten was occasionally to commit minor vandalism but everyone I know is like that, it's kind of normal for my age. Even when my parents were in the middle of a divorce and my aunt and uncle were trying to take custody of me for some reason I never felt the urge to be violent towards anyone, ever. Though I did a hell of a lot of crying.

Played GTA:SA for the first time at the age of 9. One of the things I remember doind in it was beating up an old woman and stomping on her dead body. However, I don't recall beating up a granny to death in real life.
