I don't think that's a panther, just a really fucking huge cat. There are cases of domestic cats getting THAT huge, my family used to have one.
Why do I think that? The cat pictured in the OP appears to have slitted eyes, whereas panthers and other large cats have round pupils. (DURR I can't believe I said irisis :downs: )

They only appear rounded because as far as I can tell (this may be because of the shitty webcam) the lighting conditions are poor, so the pupil will be dilated and therefore appear more round. So a picture where the "cub" (they are called cubs FYI) is looking straight at the camera in decent lighting conditions would show if I'm right or not. It's not too much to ask for one more picture, right?

Well it just seems particularly strange that someone working for animal control would leave an undomesticated animal with a civilian, even for a night and not keep it supervised. If it did anything harmful they would be held liable. That and at that size it just seems too weedy to be a panther cub so I'm more inclined to say it's just a big-ass cat.

She's staying with us too, she's not 'leaving' it with us. It's paws are absolutely massive, not really weedy.
