he is putting so much work into this stupid toy. It wont make your gun perform any better with a bunch of plastic put on it. It just makes it look stupid, big, ugly and serves no other purpose.

And it could make money off of halo fanboys, exploiting the stupid is fun too.
Can you finish the whole model just for Gmod purposes? If you CAN port it to Gmod. Or you can send it to a modeler so they can finish it from there.
If any of you can find someone who can import it into Gmod let me know. I want to know what file types they use or can accept and work on. Only downside is I think this is more detailed then most HL2/Gmod guns.

To you looks it looks stupid. To others it looks awesome. If you think it looks ugly, alright so be it, I respect your opinion. But you can't go dictating how I use my time. So what if I want to spend a few days designing a working real world model. If I get anything out of it it's experience, and it looks good on my portfolio. The fact that I can take fantasy prop that doesn't exist and take dimensions of a real world object and put them together is an achievement for me.
Seriously, how many people do you know who has this sort of talent or patience? Obviously you have no respect for people's hard work and effort, you probably don't appreciate anything in life. So if you're going to be a complete douchbag when it comes to commenting on someones work, just shut the hell up and don't even say anything unless you're going to leave constructive criticism.
And people wonder why I get so pissed off at the human race at times, it's because of idiots.
k have fun ;)

Perhaps airsoft isnt all about performance like paintball? Alot of our stuff is strictly for show or WOW factor. Hell, real airsoft is 50% money wasting, 40% fashion show, and 10% shooting.
And I dont know about you, but I always find it fun to be able to hold a gun that you made, and that is completely unique.
Completely agree with you there. I probably spend more time now arranging and buying gear then actually opening up my guns and upgrading them to shoot better.
Some people have asked me what handguard I have on my M4, then I tell them I made it and they are completely blown away and think it's awesome. It's make your gun feel unique for sure, and when you got people asking if they could buy one, it's potential business.
I design stuff for looks, but I'll also design stuff for ergonomics so it feels good or is easier to use than whatever's out there.
It's too bad i can't model for shit and no school within 50 miles has a 3D printer, i'd model a new receiver for my M4 cause it's broken
I'd rather buy a new M4 receiver than design a new one. Cheaper than making a new one, and redesigning something that already exists seems like a waste of time in my opinion.
Anyways, status on the conversion kit. I'm headed over to my old school in about half an hour to see if my teacher can print it and to arrange a deal with him. If he gives me the OK, then I got to see if the model works and doesn't have any errors through the printer program. If it passes that, then I can start printing.
:D
Alright my teacher has the files. Unfortunately he also has a new computer, so were not sure if the printer program is up to date and if it even connects to the printer properly. We had problems like this last year with the computer and printer not talking with each other. He'll email me once it's up and running.
Still don't know if there's any errors on the model yet, but once he checks it I'll be informed. I'd figure this would be done by next week if all goes well, which it rarely does.

This thread is so full of win.
Another amazing project by Ender. Can't wait to see the final result.
I'm hoping I start teaching other students to use the same 3D program at school. On Friday's I'm going to start mentoring the students working in Drafting II, get them up to speed and have them start building 3D models worthy of being printed out. Who knows, maybe I might get someone interested in the same stuff I work on and have them design some parts.
Last night I decided to add my last bit of detail before shipping the model off. I added trademarks to the slide.

Woot, parts being printed today. Got on my teachers case so the printing has begun. Figure the earliest I can pick it up is Monday.

:D? Keep up the good work Ender.

Got to check out the kit today. Looks very nice. We started the acid bath around 10am, by noon almost half of the support material was dissolved. I'm heading back around 3pm to check on it and pick it up if it's done.
Can't wait.
Update:
Went back around 3. The trigger guard and pins had come loose from the plate (this is a good thing), but the rest still had about a 1/8in layer of support material holding it to the plate. I tried to jiggle it off, but that didn't do it. Guess we'll have to wait til next week.
I got some cell phone pics, but I can't seem to find my memory card for the phone...
with verizion you can txt the pics to your email.
Which I don't have, and I don't use texting either.
Just got another memory card for my phone, so I got the pictures.

Walls are a bit thin, making them somewhat transparent looking. Won't even notice it once it's painted though. Good thing I added supports in there.

To give you a sense of scale, the inside of the square where the model is built on is 8"x8"

Hoping to pick the kit up on Tuesday.
looks good! can't wait to see it painted and installed on your gun. Btw: Update your thread at 405th, there sure are a lot guys that are interested in!
Thanks for the reminder, let me go do that.
Hmm, bandwidth limit exceeded, guess I'll try later.
