Well now you guys are getting closer to the rules we have at my CQB arena, so let me give you our interpretation so maybe the refs can start to smooth things out. 1. 1 Joule limit (330fps with a .2g) on all weapons 2. No Minimum Engagement Distance 3. Knife kills are a tap on the back/shoulder from behind 4. Bang kills are optional, but you're a dick if you refuse to take them. Same as a knife kill but apply if you're not within arms reach. 5. Vary games between semi auto and full auto, especially depending on the amount of people in a round. 6. No blindfiring 7. No turn and burn, you have to see your target before you shoot 8. Double engagement/Mexican standoff (both people hit at roughly the same time) means both players are hit, regardless of who shot first or if one person might have missed 9. Shoot a teammate or a dead player and you're dead too. I find that the ruleset generally makes things fair for the people turning corners and the people defending them, especially if you have attentive refs to clear disputes.
I really wish my field used these rules. Sadly, it's a really funky mix of ultra-close quarters and really long range (airsoft wise), so the low FPS level can't really be accommodated for.

Sadly, it's a really funky mix of ultra-close quarters and really long range (airsoft wise), so the low FPS level can't really be accommodated for.
From my experiences the best way to mix that is to make a 330fps limit for full automatic guns (except SAWs) with no MED, a 400fps limit for semiautomatic guns with no MED, a 425fps limit for SAWs with a MED of 30-50ft, and a 500fps limit for bolties with a 100 ft MED. That setup allows for everyone to build their guns for their playstyle and the limitations of the field. At Pine Plains it was 400fps with .25g with no MED, but only SAWs were given fullauto and could not fire inside buildings. Being hit with 1-2 shots at 400fps is not too big of a deal and if you were hit by a SAW most of the time you were far enough away that it wasn't too bad. One exception is that a buddy of mine point blank hosed down an entire enemy squad with his SAW when he turned a corner and they were stacked up looking the other way. Having a MED for all SAWs would fix that for a standard game.
my field is like this -no guns are chronod -dont be a dick -if it looks like a sniper, 100 foot MED i can use my 4 joule sniper at 100 feet :/

SoCal airsoft is kinda lame.

Best way of handling it is pointing out that a standard box of zipties contains 4 colors minimum, so assign one color to one kind of fps limit and just limit the explanation to "this color shoots fullauto, this color doesn't etc." Its at least worth bringing up at the field or the field's forum/facebook page.

Although the owner is a jaded, headstrong ex-Marine that doesn't seem to care for any of those that airsoft at his field lol, it's worth a shot. [editline]5th November 2012[/editline] esp since my G17 was stolen by mexicans

Only real difference is the FPS. I just got off of IM with Chief, the owner of CQB City. I told him my concerns and we sort of bounced ideas back and debated. It's something they're going to have to try out and find a balance, said he was going to discuss with his staff on what to try next. He brought up the fact that people usually go there because they can use their 400fps field gun there without having to downgrade it or get another gun. I mentioned to him a lot of players have more than 1 gun, and for different fields. I did take into consideration that some kids can't afford a spare gun, so I suggested he'd have dedicated days listed in advance for games like this. I also mentioned that there were players out there who expressed interest in these games, but only at lower FPS limits. We'll see where this goes. Probably will be a few more weekends of testing before something is settled. For now, I'm going to stick outdoors.
Hmm, perhaps the idea is to keep a MED for 400fps guns but allow no MED on 330/350fps to help balance out the old and new. That way everyone can play every day, but safety is preserved and their is a real benefit to using a lower fps gun. Also, no ricochet related deaths, my arena doesn't have them and they're a major gameplay issue. After all, why would anyone need to turn corners when they can merely spray until they ricochet someone to death?
What made him decide to change the traditional rules all of a sudden? The whole "pistols only" inside was one of the reasons I finally bought a sidearm, my OD KJW P226. [editline]6th November 2012[/editline] lovely

No. -Guns are chronoed and tagged. -Any gun shooting over 400 fps requires a 100' MED. (And cannot be used in buildings) -They knew how hot your gun was because it had been chrono'd by the owner before he put it on sale in the display case.

Also worth mentioning is that a 4 joule sniper would be shooting over 650fps with a .2g, so I'm highly doubting you're allowed to use that at any field.
*400fps
Thank you for correcting me hombre.
Also worth mentioning is that a 4 joule sniper would be shooting over 650fps with a .2g, so I'm highly doubting you're allowed to use that at any field.
insert joke about 4 joule man

They still let me use it.
sounds pretty negligent to me
what how are they chronoing everybody else's gun but not yours...? ????????
Every past time I have gone, they didn't chrono anyones gun.... Unless they changed like 3 weeks ago suddenly
I have been going for almost 2 years and have chrono'd almost every time. I have also seen everybody else chrono almost every time. I have even chrono'd a few people before.
are we talking about the same field
Yes.
i dont even
Why use airsoft guns when you can use real guns? [sp]I'm joking[/sp]
Why use airsoft guns when you can use real guns?
WOW I'VE NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT THAT WAY BEFORE THANKS SO MUCH FOR CHANGING MY LIFE I'M GONNA GO SHOOT MY FRIENDS WITH REAL GUNS NOW
