Nazi Germany didn't have an army?
I marched with my Air Force ROTC detachment in our local Veterans Day parade today. We were at the very front of the parade, so we finished first and got to see all the tanks and humvees roll by, along with a couple flyovers by a Huey helicopter and a KC135. It was my first time in a parade, I enjoyed it.
Our school showed a video for Veteran's day. It was all stupid shitty patriotic country/pop music and pictures of teachers who were/are in the military. We were all making fun of it silently or ignoring it, at least until the end. Right before the end, the video played the funeral march and showed a picture of the "missing soldier" boots and helmet on a gun setup, ending with an image of the Vietnam Memorial. It sounds stupid, but it was weirdly powerful and we all fell dead silent, with serious faces, staring at the image on the screen for about thirty seconds.
Right up until my dumbass teacher said, "oh, is it over?" There was an uneasy giggle and someone said, "you just ruined it." So, yes, there was at least there was one class serious about this in America.
My family is mostly known for being in wars, WW1, WW2, Vietnam, we've served in them all and there was even a ship in our name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Mustin_(DDG-89))
Two minutes of silence while standing to attention isn't easy when you have a bad back

Mmhm.
I love my Granddad. He was shot in the bum and is still going strong at 89 years old.

This is a classic example of why Great Britain was the greatest country on Earth.

No, you said you hated the military.
So why are you in a thread honouring the military?
So I should honour the Taliban?
Yes, honour the footsoldiers of the Taliban, because they're FIGHTING FOR THEIR COUNTRY.
Nothing else. They aren't fighting to "kill white men", just like American and British troops aren't in Iraq to "kill brown men"
Veteran's Day has been ruined by Toby Keith.
If I hear "American Soldier" one more time..

Remembrance Day is not just for US/Commonwealth/whatever else soldiers
Almost all countries have had soldiers die in conflicts needlessly. It doesn't matter who they're affiliated to, they made the greatest sacrifice for their country and no matter what you should honour them.
P.S. this is being said by a currently ex-British Soldier
I learned about Remembrance Day from the show The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret.

Y'know, they're just defending themselves, right?
So why would I honour people who are killing others for no reason?

Toby Keith ruins everything
The class joker was laughing and trying to make people laugh during our 2 minutes silence today. The fat cunt.

Did you read anything I said at all? They died fighting for their country - they died fighting to defend their loved ones, their townspeople, their neighbors - something which it seems you would not do.
It does not matter who they are affiliated to. If they are fighting for their country, it's a just cause. The fact they died for such a cause demands respect.
