I love these videos but god the comments are cancer
my favourite design is this: it's like a haunted house style :)
How is this not animal abuse? Killing rats instantly is one thing, but making them drown? Really? Just because they're pests doesn't mean they deserve to suffer. :/ Also jfc what the hell is wrong with the people in the comments:
How is this not animal abuse?
Water traps are safer and more humane than most commercial traps designed for large amounts of rodents. Once they can't fight the water anymore, they are unconscious in under a minute, then dead. I've heard that mice go unconscious in seconds and die within 30. I'm not sure about rats, but I imagine it won't be different enough to go into "cruel and horrific torture" territory for them. That is a much better way to die than dying of infection or exposure after being half flayed by a sticky trap, being fed balls which expand in their guts and cause them to either burst from the inside and die or starve to death, or putting down poison which will cause them to painfully internally hemorrhage over a course of multiple days. It also does not have the problem where animals may eat the corpses and get injured/poisoned themselves, or get stuck to sticky pads, so it's the only real choice (that i know of) if you have a rodent infestation and pets.

I'd take drowning over warfarin poisoning any day.
I'd take drowning over warfarin poisoning any day.
why do people still refer to warfirin as rat poison. it's only function is to cease production of vitamin K to stop clotting.
Ahh, I see the rigged gun traps from Fallout have a basis in reality.
Imagine being a rat chewing on a piece of whatever, thats strapped to the trigger of a drum fed shotgun

People use them because they're fool proof to put together, but they're immensely cruel. Drowning is not an instant or painless death, and even them being in the water isn't going to instantly start drowning them. Mice can tread water for days before they finally give out and start to drown, and even then, they can hold their breath for several minutes. I can't honestly think of a worse death than being forced to tread water until you're utterly exhausted, then drown. Water traps are easy to put together but they take for-fucking-ever to kill something. In this guys video, they died pretty quick because they probably froze to death with it being winter. They were also pretty rigid so that also suggests freezing to death. Saying a trap that drowns something is the most humane trap is just blatantly wrong.
I can't honestly think of a worse death than being forced to tread water until you're utterly exhausted, then drown.
what about being forced to struggle against adhesive until you're utterly exhausted and then starve
what about being forced to struggle against adhesive until you're utterly exhausted and then starve
Because ya don't starve, you exhaust yourself to death. Literally giving yourself a heart attack. Same thing happens to mice in repeater traps when they realize they're not getting out. And again, never made the argument that glueboards are humane. Just making the argument that drowning mice isn't humane or practical.
What about cats that torture mice and rats? I live with 17 cats and I can't count the number of times bloodied mice or rats are let go by our cats in the house and they give chase like it's "The Most Dangerous Game". Nature isn't humane, it's just how things go.
Imagine being a rat chewing on a piece of whatever, thats strapped to the trigger of a drum fed shotgun
At least it'd be quick
why do people still refer to warfirin as rat poison. it's only function is to cease production of vitamin K to stop clotting.
Because it's the main poison used for killing rats?
Because it's the main poison used for killing rats?
i just reread what i said, never mind it's dumb, sry.
How the fuck do you live a functional life with 17 cats? Do you own a shelter? Is your room-mate a cat hoarder?
I live with my parents in a 3-floor house. Not as bad as it sounds, there's equal distribution among floors and cats are pretty self-sufficient.
Mice die extremely fast in water like this, i'm not sure why.
Small animals and prey go into shock easily, it's how they evolved.
I want one where its a full size ballista that fires tungsten bolts how about that. P. sure that's as humane as it gets
Imagine being a rat chewing on a piece of whatever, thats strapped to the trigger of a drum fed shotgun
Or a laser rifle.
Ahh, I see the rigged gun traps from Fallout have a basis in reality.
anything can be done with the right mechanism
Used to live near a farm myself and we would get all sorts of rodents, I never made traps tho. Would use my dog to scare it out, grab my spring loaded BB gun and shoot it. If it didn't instantly kill it I would hurry to put a round in the head just because I don't think it is necessary for it to suffer Shot one of the poor buggers legs off once, went into shock so I quickly went for the head after which was the kill shot. I was impressed that I managed to actually hit it tho since it was going so fast Even with a BB gun the mess can be astounding, my mum appreciated that I was getting rid of them when they got in but always made me clean up the gore. I can't imagine what a proper bullet would do to it
This guy also has a video where he pops out a live botfly maggot from a mouse and rips it open on camera. Really gross but also kinda enlightening on how far you have to go to keep pests out of your barn.
