If people are freaking out and causing general pandemonium then I'll join in for fun
Not rioting but dicking around
I want to believe.
I mean, not for the "end", but for change!
Actually, if I recall, the "calendar" that these people were referring to was the Mayan's Long Count calendar. It went to a new count every so years, for example the new count begins on December 21, 2011. The Mayans weren't scared about this at all. To them, it was just a new count/year.
I don't believe the world will end.
I doubt it, most of these theories are based on fiction and bad science.
I don't give a fuck about 2012, it's just another year in my opinion.
End or no end, it's another fucking year and I'm going to live through it like any other year.
I'm scared of big numbers. :(
Slightly off-topic but i must say, this forum is much less intimidating without the rating system for posts
Yes I believe 2012 will occur. I also believe 2013 will occur and so will 2014.
on topic- No.
I don't believe it's going to happen but it'll definitely be interesting to see everyone's reaction that day.

Ofcourse the calender would carry on even if the world did ''End''. Just with allot less human inhabitance

Not if the reaction is to burn down your street.

Rated - Agree
I can't wait for the morning following the night the world will "end" everyone will be hung over, pregnant, or in jail...Or a combo of all 3.

Hangover part 3
Why are some people reaching their conclusions based on some stone calendar made from a now-extinct Indian culture some centuries ago?
I mean. The fact that the Mayans didn't even live to the point of 2012 already says something right there.
They probably just ran out of space on their rock.
They probably just ran out of space on their rock.
or maybe they thought: hey we got a good start on this, we can pick it back up later.
I think the world will change, not necessarily just end but change for the good or bad
If anything at all does happen on December 21st, 2012, it'd be all the people who do believe in it rioting and looting.
I'm gonna be stealing stuff like crazy man, everyone's gonna be planning their final words, so I can be like, "hey you don't need that iPhone anymore I guess," and, "yeah you don't need a car when you're dead bro," so I can just enjoy life with new stuff!!!
I think this is what happened as to the 2012 prophecy:
The Mayan's had some old "wise man" working on the calendar. Suddenly, heart attack. What date did he just finish writing? 2012. SO of course the Mayans probably thought it had to be special just because the old dude happened to die right then and there.
So no, it will not happen.
I can assure you that absolutely nothing that's outside of statistical probability will happen to the planet just because of an arbitrarily decided, misinterpreted system of one species.
If anything out of the ordinary (statistically probable) happens, it won't be natural, but will be caused specifically by humans freaking out over or taking advantage of the belief that something horrible will happen.
Seriously, it's like thinking that because the calenders you see all over your office building all end on December 31st, 2011, that the world will end or considerably change on that day. Or thinking that, because the bottles of water you bought in bulk all have "Expiration Date: July 09 2013" on them, that you're going to die that day.
Could something happen on that day? Yes. Is the chance of something happening any more or less than any other day? Absolutely not.

That's a huge stretch.
That's a huge stretch.
And the Mayans being 'right' and the world ending on that very date isn't?
Not sure but after seeing how much shit is going down recently I can expect a near downfall of our economy and self destruction, in nothing less than two-three years
As the date approaches everyone will be selling shares, etc. so then's your chance to buy, buy, buy!
If you're into making money off others' misery/stupidity.
A lot of people don't seem to understand how the calender works, I'll try to explain best I can with what I remember.
The calender is made up of 5 Great Cycles over a Great Year. We are in the 5th and final Great Cycle. In Mayan history the end of each Great Cycle ends with total destruction of the Earth (I think the ending of the first cycle was a great flood) with only a couple of survivors who repopulate the Earth. As each Great Cycle ends in total destruction, it is said that this Great Cycle will end in total destruction, except that it's the final Great Cycle and no one knows what happens once a Great Year ends.
Of course though this didn't happen because all they are are stories, so of course the whole end of the world thing happening in 2012 is false too.
FCKFCKFCK! I forgot to install anti satan and suicide booths! Goddamn you time!
On topic:They just ran out of space on the rock!

Until there is scientific evidence that proves it, no I'm fine
I don't believe in it, however, there is stubborn dumbfucks that do, and, as said, on the date everything is probably gonna be one massive mess
Same thing with the supposed Rapture earlier this year. Its false. No one can predict the end of the world. Don't get me wrong, im not very religious, but Im just going to live the year like I did this one: Sitting on my ass playing video games.
