Ill put my two cents on this topic. I wont lie, i was dead scared of this 5 years ago when I was in High School. I took a trip to Cancun, Mexico for vacation and as we were right next to the Mayan temples, I remembered the 2012 date and I asked 3 different people when I went there: My tour guide who has the Mayan history memorized, the local Mayans who live there (or Mayan descendents, pure Mayan blooded people), and the historian we took a visit too. When I asked all 3 of them at different times about 2012, they thought I was crazy. They told me that its not the end of times for us, not even they could predict that time. So in summary, there wont be a 'End of the World', but I can grantee people are gonna go batshit crazy when the day approaches so better set yourself gentlemen.
The world is not going to end. But maybe the modern economy will? Well not in just 1 year, but the current state of euro and dollar is pretty fucked up. USA started this, they dragged EU down too and now we are basically paying "support" money to the banks. Also we aren't saving the banks, but we are trying to keep the banks up, because of the customers. I just hope that the actual economy gets a complete overhaul, this shit just doesn't work. If that sounds strange, confusing or has loads of anti-logic packed into it, it's because I'm at work and can't really focus :v:
I dont believe its gonna happen anytime soon. The apocalypse, I mean. And when it happens, Darksiders tiem.
There's no logical reason to believe in the argument. Yes, the world is over due for a polar shift and an ice age and is going through global warming. Disasters are happening every day and have been for thousands of years. We look for patterns, we see them. This is a big pattern we all can't stop fucking looking at because we're morbid creatures. If anything does happen, a disaster or anything like that around that date, then people will go bezerk and cause the "apocalypse" themselves out of stupid fear. This whole mayan calendar thing is horseshit, they ended the calender early because they didn't need it to half that length of time, so why continue on wards?
Remember the Y2K bug and that people will think in the year 2000, all the computer will stop working which in turn will cause complete chaos? That didn't happen and same goes for 2012.
Not going to happen in my opinion, it just sounds so silly that the world will go down EXACTLY at that date... Nah I do get a day off work then :downs: And i am less excited about the possible riots and shit that will go on
Let me just say i have done allot of research into the matter, and where i am in two minds about it.
Uhh.. like what research?
I believe that what the Mayans considered to be "end of the world" might as well just be a little heavier rain and stronger wind than usual to us in modern day. Or you know, something we can easily recover from but they wouldn't have back then. Ooor they were smart enough to know they wouldn't need to make calendars further than that, and they didn't GET to make more because they got wiped out. [editline]30th September 2011[/editline]
but I can grantee people are gonna go batshit crazy when the day approaches so better set yourself gentlemen.
Meh. I'll just lock the door and buy snacks the day before and watch as the RSS-feeds go nuts over the riots.
Adam will face four choices. Hopefully he'll choose one of the threes that doesn't involve blowing up the world !
The world just ending in a blink is highly not possible, im pretty sure if the world were going to end, it would end in a really harsh way
the entire conspiracy theory is literally just based on a misinterpretation of the Maya calendar. december 21 2012 isn't some "date the Mayans predicted would be the end of the world", it's just the date that their calendar system rolls over to the next b'ak'tun (which is just a time measurement they used of about 144,000 days). it's basically the same concept as our calendar going from December 31, 999 to January 1, 1000

when the day comes, they just go like "lol jk we counted wrong its 2021 lol" didnt that happen at 2000
I gotta say, it's a little creepy how you are all for people killing themselves as a way of "population control."
Really, it's their (dumb) decision to kill themselves during mass suicides trying to avoid a fictional end of the world (in which you die) - kind of contradicting, right? If we lose those kind of people, in all honesty, what's the actual loss?

I do think something will happen on December 21, 2012 (My birthday is the apocalypse), but not the end of the world. Be it a change into a new astrological age (i.e. something that is purely symbolic and will have no effect on the world we live in), or some other kind of symbolic or astrological event, but I don't think for a moment that there's any slight chance of the world suddenly ending. [editline]30th September 2011[/editline]
I gotta say, it's a little creepy how you are all for people killing themselves as a way of "population control."
It's their decision and the world is overpopulated.
Not in the slightest.
Anyone who belives this should go back to kindergarden, threads about 2012 piss me off, its just retards with no minds at all going "URP DRURP WORLDS GONa END what s ur UPONION?!" and it just annoys the everliving fuck out of me.
I'm an atheist and I don't believe this shit. Many people tried to predict the end, all of them were wrong. If I would've been a religious man, I would think that Jesus/Allah/Whatever will save me. The Bible says that the world will end because of The Antichrist, that's because he'll be born 2 years before The Christ. And he'll form an united goverment, too! Do you see an united goverment or that Antichrist guy? I think not.
I bet $20 on that Illuminati will come up with something, and blame it on 2012.
Mayas can suck my balls, i don't believe that shit
I think 2012 believers are idiots, but I prepare for the upcoming zombie apocalypse
I think 2012 believers are idiots, but I prepare for the upcoming zombie apocalypse
Agreed :downs:
I think 2012 believers are idiots, but I prepare for the upcoming zombie apocalypse
what
I may be wrong here but the last time the Maya calendar 'ended', didn't they get conquered and exterminated by the Conquistadores? Yeah, their idea of 'the world' wasn't that big.
I don't give a fuck about 2012, it's just another year in my opinion. End or no end, it's another fucking year and I'm going to live through it like any other year.
Agreed. Just because an old civilization stops doing a calender or some old guy gets a hardon over a supposed biblical message doesnt mean its going to happen.
The world will not end. There are still plenty of other doomsday predictions left after this one.
2012 has nothing to do with religion. And it doesn't have anything to do with Nibiru, because Nibiru isn't real anyway.
The mayan workers just got bored of making a calendar, and came up with the excuse that the world would end in 2012.
Why the hell are people still talking about the mayans? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoamerican_Long_Count_calendar#2012_and_the_Long_Count
