Sure was.
He said Ian McKellen was the nice wizard, Christopher Lee was the evil austere wizard, and he was "the wizard covered in shit. Pure type-casting."
And on Gallifreybase, they've decided that Moffat 'doesn't care about the show' because Matt Smith mispronounced Metebilis. I weep for them, I really do.
A very intelligent man, and he had me in stitches.

yeah he does repeat himself a lot
and he always seemed to be a bit of a show off to me, the sort of guy who's like 'hey look I can twirl this cane between my fingers is anybody watching' or 'look at how good I am at playing the spoons!' (check out The Hobbit Production Blogs)
but as a whole he seems ok

hilarious when I saw him do a panel at Armageddon in New Zealand

To be fair, the Doctor forgetting stuff does make sense to me; a thousand-year old mind, no matter how long-lived and learned, is finite, so it'd make sense for the Doctor to forget a lot of things because there is so much stuff in his head, plus I'd imagine that his telepathic ability takes up a fair bit of space on the hard-drive, since in theory psychic powers would be rather bulky in terms of "file size".
That is unless the Doctor stores some of his memories in the TARDIS, like an external hard-drive of the mind.

He didn't do that, but he did check if David Tennant was under the table.
11 probably stores all the memories in his chin
I think they've done so much of the whole "look we're a companion and we're learning about who the doctor is and how travelling with the doctor works" that its so overdone now, they need to find a new schtick because its pretty much a similar reaction from the companions every time
I dont want to have that same situation replayed with different actors ad infinitum for the rest of the doctor who franchise
Also man, I must be the only person here who didn't really like midnight? weird
I agree that it would be the same formula. However, that is exactly what Doctor Who runs off of. I enjoy that sort of wonder and watching for that reaction. Just like the Doctor loves the "It's bigger on the inside" comment, it is great to watch the companions go through that. I get that overdone feeling every episode I watch anyway. There is always something that has been in several previous episodes. The immediate acceptance of everything is one of them. It's like the experience of other companions remains in the new ones, it doesn't flow.
I think they could pull it off without it being too samey.
As for not liking Midnight, I can think of numerous other examples for a similar situation. 42, Blink, Voyage of the Damned, Silence in the Library. Even The Runaway Bride for the emotions from that bit at the end.
Sorry to interrupt the conversation. Had to respond.
I'm kinda curious; what is the difference between a [sp]"peggy sue"[/sp] and a [sp]mary sue[/sp]? Or are they different names for the same thing? I can assume that [sp]mary sue[/sp] is an idealised author-surrogate kind of character?
Also that's a cool staff there Aries. Reminds me of what Gandalf the Grey used in Fellowship except with a green crystal. Oh wait, wasn't Sylvester McCoy in The Hobbit as that Radhagast the Brown chap?
No they're totally different things.
[sp]peggy sue coincidentally falls into the "X sue" format, it's not a play on "mary sue"; it's from a 1986 film called "Peggy Sue Got Married". it means a character/plot device where someone goes back in time and (usually) inhabits their previous body but retains all their added maturity and foreknowledge. it's often used in fanfictions to explore ideas like "what if harry knew quirrel was voldemort" and so on, with varying degrees of success. also it's occasionally used in mainstream media, like in Lola Rennt and that one star trek: TNG episode.[/sp]
He didn't do that, but he did check if David Tennant was under the table.
He didn't play the spoons!? I wonder if he's feeling okay.
When I saw Tom Baker it was insane. He wasn't doing a talk just a signing but he made time for everybody. It felt like a talk, he was that loud and open to everybody. It didn't feel like a line but an audience.
I remember him holding up a picture of himself and smiling before fondly recollecting "Ah yesss. On the day this photograph was taken a girl I liked finally went on a date with me". He looked nostalgic and smiled for a long time looking at the picture. Then he picked up another one of himself, this time looking serious and annoyed: "this one was taken when I realised how bloody annoying she was". Everybody cracked up laughing while he stared at the picture.
Eventually silence fell and he said "these days she's dead". Once again everybody cracked up at how sudden and unexpected it was. Tom roaring with laughter at his desk.
I had a picture of me and Tom at the desk laughing but sadly I've lost it forever as it was on my phone and I left that on a train. Got a photoshoot with him but I hate that picture with a passion.
Has there been any updates on that press business that apparently went down in Cardiff the other day? With all the "old faces" and whatnot?
Want to know who Clara is? Somebody claims to have the answer:
I know it could be bull but.. this feels very right. I like it. It sounds like Moffat.
Mostly because although it deals with all the plot strands, it also has a huge amount of convenience.
[sp]OH NO THE GI IS KILLING THE DOCTOR. Oh it's okay doing so killed him.. for some reason?[/sp]
[sp]OH NO THE DOCTOR WON'T REVEAL HIS NAME TO OPEN THE TOMB.. It's okay River knows it[/sp]

[sp]Impossible. Killing the Gi involves a painting.
The blueprint to killing him is in the book one kid was reading during the Bells of St. John. Book here:

That's really nothing to do with the show. It's just an e-book tie in. The "11's the best, you'll cry you heart out" was just a bit of fun.

"Ah! I'm thick! Look at me, I'm old and thick! Head's too full of stuff! I need a bigger head!"
Aye; I imagine that as people get older and they forget stuff, they'll eventually need external memory modules. Hell, imagine if, in the future, we could put our memories in banks for safekeeping, thus freeing up our mind-space for more memories without losing old ones. 'cause even though the human brain is super-complex and high-capacity, it still has limits concerning memory space, so eventually we might need to keep our older memories stored safely away in case they get lost.
Weeellll, Sherlock explores a sort of variant of what you're thinking of, "memory banks". It's still in your head but it's "explorable" and easier to remember. The "mind palace", or as it's actually called: "Method of loci".

Is it bad that I really, really want Tennant's outfit?
I found the suit and coat on ebay, custom tailored for around 200 pounds, brand new. Somehow at that price I doubt the quality slightly, but I dunno.
the coat itself is like £300 on amazon.
Although they look cool on TV, wearing their outfits in real life makes you look ridiculous.

I look ridiculous anyway :v:
Although, Tennants outfit is relatively neutral, as is nine's. A suit with a coat. I'd look daft with Matt's clothing. Anyone would. Including Matt!
Or I can go all out and just shove a celery on my jacket. Perfect.
No, there's no question about it, anyone would look fucking stupid wearing the Doctor's clothes. Only exception being you're Matt or David or whoever's twin.

I go into the "Only Tennant is Returning" thread and people are acting like if not all 11 doctors are in it it'll be an absolute atrocity.
Exactly. All 11 Doctors is definitely what should happen. Nothing else would do the 50 year history the justice it rightfully deserves.
I mean yeah, as much as we'd all LOVE all Doctors in it it's not gonna work out very well. Take what we have. Even ONE Doctor returning is amazing.

then after she dies aliens snatch her, put her in a computer or something, and then daleks come, and one of them gets taken over by clara[/sp]

Dalekbuster is my favourite user on there. Somebody told him the classics were in Australlia and he (very seriously) suggested that Peter Davison could record all their scenes on his video camera and email it to the BBC. I've never laughed so much in my life. He couldn't see a problem with it and was adamant it was a great idea.

Somebody leaked the Clara reveal and it seems legit. I think I posted it on the last page. Have fun, you were far off. I don't think anybody could possibly guess it either. It's very Moffat in the sense Time Travel = Magic.
