Renegade-
"A person who deserts and betrays an organization, country, or set of principles."
The Doctor basically goes against the timelords no interference policy.

A Timelord who decided that sitting on Gallifrey being a superior species and not interfering with time wasn't really his thing, and decided to go run around meddling with time and having adventures and whatnot.
Basically he's a renegade from his own species.
Ah. I was wondering if that could be related to his secret, but I suppose not then.
