If the Doctor can travel through space and time, why doesn't he just travel forward and purchase the latest model of screwdriver?
Because he built them. The only one he didn't build was the Mark VII.
Because he doesn't buy them, the TARDIS makes them you pillock.

Anybody know where to find the full episode? I remember it used to make me cry laughing.

Apparently the title being used by production staff on set is [sp]Generations[/sp]. Possibly a working title, place holder or the real thing.
To me it seems like a play on words. [sp]Star Trek Generations is where Picard met his predecessor, Kirk. Doctor Who Generations is where Doctor 11 meets his predecessor, Doctor 10.[/sp]. So probably only a working title.
The producer at the time decided it was too easy for writers to get the Doctor out of trouble. Because all they had to do is point the sonic screwdriver and bang... And so the writers had to use their imagination to get him out of trouble.
Kinda wish this was applied to the current series.
Yeah the Moffat era turned it into a magic wand from the first episode. Nine, Ten, and Eleven all love the sonic and often vocalise their admiration for it. Doctor Twelve should hate it and it should break and he should never get round to fixing it. Like Five.
Have you ever tried to write an episode of Doctor Who? It's really hard to come up with a situation where the screwdriver doesn't work.
[editline]11th April 2013[/editline]
It's like freaking Tommy Pickles. Apparently the Rugrats creators really liked Doctor Who and Tommy having a screwdriver was a reference to that. A Dalek even appears in one episode.

Aye; personally I'd be alright with him having a couple of gadgets rather than a "fix-all" solution in his screwdriver. However there's one thing that it doesn't work against; apparently it doesn't work on wood.
Ten things about Cold War:-
[sp] 1. Expect to see the Ice Warriors as you've never seen them before...
2. "It never rains… but it pours!"
3. Fans of classic '80s pop music will find much to enjoy here.
4. "Am I speaking Russian?"
5. You know it's a Mark Gatiss episode when the script contains a reference to 'The Krotons'.
6. "Yes, I know - it's a woman!"
7. Was 'The Song of the Ice Warrior' a working title? Because it should have been.
8. "It's the '80s - everything's bigger!"
9. There's a very Doctor-ish vibe to David Warner's Professor Grisenko.
10. "I'm always serious - with days off."[/sp]
9 is quite interesting.
Anyone seen Room At The Top with JLC?
I'm gonna miss this episode and I don't know where to watch. I know that telling me would be warez or such. aww.
"Am I speaking Russian?"
Now the translation circuit decides to fucking work. Make your mind up writers.

I'd imagine it would go something like Clara saying "wait, these russians can understand me, am I speaking russian?". Or did the Doctor already explain to her how the translation circuit works? I forget.

I believe Grizz posted all her scenes here. Was that the one where she took her top off and had sex in a shed?

Nope. Clara had absolutely no problem speaking alien but she's a closet xenophobe and upon learning she can speak Russian she has a right fit.

Problem is I'm gonna be off in the woods. I don't think I'll be allowed into the building with internet and stuff.

Anyone wanting to watch the series from the 9th Doctor can watch it at either 8/9am or 5/6pm weekdays on Watch (UK only sorry), although they are on s1 ep13 Parting of the Ways so it will be from the Tenth Doctor tomorrow.
“I’m in the middle of filming, I start again at 9am tomorrow. It’s brilliant and I am getting to work with David Tennant, who I have a lot of time for,” he said, though he refused to be drawn on any details about his role “I’m sworn to secrecy about my character and my scenes.”
John Hurt on working with Tennant for the 50th. I guess this confirms Tennant isn't limited to the one scene.
My life is so dull, Doctor Who on Saturdays is the high point of the week.

I like that bullet looking thing on the Mark II to IV sonic screw driver. Makes it look more believable.
Also, is Paul McGann returning to the 50th? If he is, I hope they do a flashback to just before the Doctor enters the Time War.

Paul interview here. I don't think he's involved. He's such a nice genuine guy though.
I really do hope that he'll end up on the show one day, because come on...
I really do hope that he'll end up on the show one day, because come on...
I hope one day. It's awful his time was cut so short.
I assume it's bad I haven't watched the movie? I've watched bits and pieces from the Classic Who, every episode with Colin Baker in it and a few from every other doctor.
The movie's not that good. It's worth watching one time as it's a direct continuation from Sylvester McCoy's episodes, but I wouldn't go back and watch it again.
I love the movie. The half-human line is silly (but could be a result of post-regeneration-trauma). But it is clearly the template for all future Who and I'm glad it got the kissing thing out of the way, otherwise that would have been one hard taboo for the new series to smash.
I can't really stand the Colin Baker stories. I liked him as an actor though.
I forgot, what were the movies between 10s series end and 11s beginning?
I still haven't watched them
