Just finished: In my recent venture to read the entire Robots-Empire-Foundation in one go. Something I like to do is, whenever I finish one of Asimov's books, I listen to the Doctor Who theme: It fits pretty well.
Tom Clancy's books are great! So the movies adaptations :buddy:
While I like Tom Clancy in general, the one thing I hate about his writing style is that he'll go into absurd detail about one little thing or give you the entire life story to a minor character who doesn't even qualify as a minor character, only to NEVER MENTION THEM AGAIN. Also he'll make a big deal about events that end up being completely dwarfed by other events that happen later in the story.
Or as Terry Pratchett put it "1000 pages thick and crammed with weapons specifications"
Finished it a few weeks ago for extra credit.
I really enjoyed this book.
LOTR FTW!
[img_thumb]http://snarkerati.com/movie-news/files/2010/05/life-of-pi-book-cover.jpg[/img_thumb] Just finished Life of Pi. Great book. [sp]Are there any pictures of the carnivorous island out there? That place sounded bad-ass.[/sp]
Haha oh wow, a game I just played referenced this book (man and tiger on a boat) Maybe I should check it out
That he is. The book amazed me though, halfway through the second right now
I haven't read the Endymion stories, are you gonna check them out?
LOTR FTW!
It's a pretty good book, but it's basically babby's first fantasy novel The way you present your opinion about it isn't helping
LOTR FTW!
I couldn't really get into it, it's really slow. I like the Hobbit a lot. I got about 1/3 of the way through the first LoTR book.
My only problem with LOTR nowadays is that everyone spontaneously bursts into song. It's like a fucking musical.
My only problem with LOTR is that they're so insanely boring to read. Liked the movies though.
The 3rd book was the first book I ever read, I was like six
For some reason I fucking loved The Hobbit, but disliked the Lord of The Rings. Strange.
Excellent book if you like post-apocalyptic settings that are realistic without the rape and pillaging being overdone. Don't let the cover fool you, its not set in a nuclear hellhole wasteland.

[sp]Are there any pictures of the carnivorous island out there? That place sounded bad-ass.[/sp]

That book is really overrated.
Way too much. I fucking hated how I spent 250 pages of book only to have the ending be ridiculously ambiguous. Obviously, that's the point since the novel is all about faith and shit, but holy shit I don't see why everyone gives it such high praise. It's almost as boring as Hatchet. Just picked up "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving. Now that's a damn good book.
Stole this from my school before I graduated.
I don't understand why every single idiot with a few hundred bucks is going out and buying a Kindle or any other electronic book peripheries. Books just have a more... archaic and classy feel than a stupid fucking expensive white tablet that you can pretend to turn fake pages with.
I'll be travelling for 4 weeks with nothing but a backpack. I'm seriously considering getting a Kindle since I can hardly bring any real books.
I would like to bring a girl to my apartment and have her see my big wall of books. You know, gives her the idea that I like to read. It's a lot better than, "Here's my Kindle".

Not sure why. Plus it saves space. I normally cant carry 5 books with me without a bag but with a kindle I can. That and generally books are cheaper to buy from it since they don't have to worry about the printing.
For some reason I fucking loved The Hobbit, but disliked the Lord of The Rings. Strange.
In fact it's not strange at all. The Hobbit was originally written as children's tale, so the different pacing and writing style makes it far easier to get into.
I can't draw pictures of what's happening in a book in the margins when I'm using a kindle.
LOTR FTW!
lotr is the worst thing tolkien has ever written, read up on his short stories leaf by niggle is one of my favourite works ever [editline]5th June 2011[/editline] this novel is fantastic, i'm about halfway through at the moment

What sick fuck would make a kid's story like the fucking HOBBIT? Jesus dicks, it had a pretty grim story from what I remember.

In Cinderalla for example, women would mutilate their feet so they'd fit in that slipper then again that's by old standards.

A kindle is good for a person who only has one arm. Seriously, with a book they need to find a way to keep it from closing on itself. With a kindle, they don't have that issue.
Just re-read "The Color of Magic" by Terry Pratchett. Man, what a great writer.
