There's a really short novel I enjoyed, Genesis: A Novel by Bernard Beckett. It's essentially a four hour conversation on the ethics of artificial intelligence with some twists. I predicted for the sake of predicting it, which I regret, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I read it in about four hours, so most of you could probably get through it in 3ish hours.
"1984" bitches! And "Animal Farm". My two favorite books.
I just finished Tarzan, it's a sad ending, I'm probably gonna start the sequel soon.
I'm just about to start this book, it's basically the 8th in a series set in an area called the Six Duchies, It starts in the first book with this young boy who is a royal bastard and in exchange for a home and education he swears his loyalty to the king, his uncle, who then trains him up to become an assassin.
I've read the first book, didn't know the series was that long.
Finished reading "Hard Times" By Charles Dickens... I don't think I'm ever going to read again... In other news, today I bought "The Old Curiosity Shop" By Charles Dickens. It's awesome so far.
About to start reading the Great Gatsby. What the general consensus on this, do people like it?
Freakonomics or The Tipping Point? Rather, which one first?
Finally caught up with The Walking Dead, have this and issue 85 to read. and this is on the way, I very much like Alan Moore. [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c0/V_for_vendettax.jpg[/img_thumb]
I should catch up with TWD too
About to start reading the Great Gatsby. What the general consensus on this, do people like it?
I found it mind numbingly boring, and every single character in the book is an asshole. [editline]22nd June 2011[/editline] Just got Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep and Lullaby (by Chuck Palahniuk) on my new Kindle. It's surprisingly good for reading. The screen is pretty much just like paper, and it's easier to hold than a book.
JFO my mom got me 5 novels by Philip K Dick, so I'm set for the next month or week or so.
I've read the first book, didn't know the series was that long.
Yeah's its like 3 books set up north, then the next 3 are further south where the shipping trade is then the 7th book is back up north, I'm not sure about the 8th and 9th though yet. There is also another 2 set in the same world that take part at the same time as the one's i'm reading I believe. Very good books.
I'm currently reading a book on algorithms and data structures. 500 pages on trees and other graphs, recursion, genetic algorithms, artificial intelligence etc. from a computer scientist's viewpoint. It's a shame that the book is in Finnish. Every language apart from English is extremely clumsy for programming terminology, as every technical term is international anyway.
About to start reading the Great Gatsby. What the general consensus on this, do people like it?
I love it. The consensus is it's one of best English language books of the 20th century.
Do you guys also read in the accent of the writer too? Or am I just weird.
Do you guys also read in the accent of the writer too? Or am I just weird.
I read in the voice of whatever fits. For example I try to read Shakespeare in a British accent, and reading it in a southern accent doesn't really work at all.
Been reading the Honor Harrington series, The Miles Vorkosigan saga, and the 1632 series
Do you guys also read in the accent of the writer too? Or am I just weird.
I read everything in the soothing voice of Morgan Freeman.
You guys use this site? goodreads.com Shit I can't link things, sorry I'm not some fag who has time to memorize all vbulletin commands. Anyway, I recently finished this: and I've been using the 'loci' method to memorize things, and it works! Read this also: Really emotionally affecting. And this: my fav this week, much better than I thought it would be.
You guys use this site? goodreads.com
I did visit it once, but the reviews seem to be written by people who know nothing about literatour.

I almost finished a Game of Thrones, but then someone stole my backpack. I have the rest sitting on my shelf... I should go get a copy from the library so I can continue.
I really enjoyed the Perfume: The Story of Murderer. It had a great ending.
I have to read Othello and then a Victorian novel for english. I'm reading Jane Eyre and Great Expectations. I'm really excited to read Dickens, but Shakespeare, not so much.

I'm on the second Tarzan, a lot different than I expected to say the least. Currently Tarzan is a french spy going after a French officer suspected of treason in Algeria.
Just started Cosmos and I'm about to finish Imperial Bedrooms.

William Gibson's sprawl trilogy is great. If anyone here's at all interested in cyberpunk you need to read it.
