Oh my god, The Road is amazing. The most grim and depressing book I've ever read.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Amazon usually ship preorders early so that you'll have them on the release date? If so, I am thoroughly pissed off that I'm not currently reading Ghost Story:
I finished that book yesterday and I have to say, it was a great book even though I guessed the ending after I finished reading Changes. [editline]29th July 2011[/editline]
Oh my god, The Road is amazing.
Oh my god, The Road is amazing. The most grim and depressing book I've ever read.
welcome to the wonderful world of Cormac McCarthy's American gothic. The Border trilogy is honestly not the greatest way to judge McCarthy, even though I loved them. If you like the Road, I would recommend Blood Meridian. It makes the harrowing parts of the Road seem a bit meek in comparison. His other gothics like outer dark, Child of God, and Suttree all have that sort of grimness to them.
I will order Blood Meridan ASAP. It was already on my reading list in fact.
I just got it a weekish ago. Only read a few chapters so far but it's very good.
The two greatest villains in modern literature for me are both in Cormac McCarthy Novels, Blood meridian and No country for old men.
Has anyone read twenty thousand leagues under the sea? I've always been fascinated by the classics, especially Jules Vernes work. Its quite difficult to read though, it reads more like an enclyopedia of fish than an actual story.
these are best Road covers.
i've got this one, it's fucking great [editline]30th July 2011[/editline] currently reading It by the King and should have bought the hardcover fucking pocket-edition is hard to keep upright with one hand in the bed :( [editline]30th July 2011[/editline] it's good tho

"The floor of the playa lay smooth and unbroken by any track and the mountains in their blue islands stood footless in the void like floating temples." Now that is writing.
Just finished that. Awesome book, it's pretty disappointing that it's so short
Beserk was a dull predictable tale, with certain incorrect ideas about teenagers. Hippo Eats Dwarf is an interesting look at bullshit stories, and how gullible we are to believe them. Think I'll read Deadline next. It#s the sequel to Feed. I literally had no idea it existed. I thought the ending pretty much closed the lid on that story.
Working on this right now. It's a pretty good book, but I'm wondering how the edited version was. The book feels a little drawn out.
I can't wait for the Harry Potter books to become digitalized. It's been like years since I read the series.

Deadline is mostly really good, and apart from some silly decisions about where to take the plot you get to read some pretty interesting stuff about Shaun and his sister. [sp]Because she's not dead, kinda. Shaun talks to her in his head.[/sp]

Also, I've only read about 10 or so pages, but I realised that that would happen throughout. I guess It's a coping mechanism.
Feed was really good. But when [sp]she died I was really disappointed because she was literally one of my favourite characters from any novel ever.[/sp]
It was rather unexpected.
Feed was really good. But when [sp]she died I was really disappointed because she was literally one of my favourite characters from any novel ever.[/sp]
I was more upset when Rick's cat died
Now I want to reread Feed but I'm already halfway through Excession. Hng.
Read this book. Read it twice. Buy it. Seriously. Right now.

It has a girl on the cover
A rather cute girl. But I'm not gonna read it for that.
Looks like one of those cheap teen romance books. [editline]31st July 2011[/editline] Bet it has vampires.
A cute girl with one dead eye.

Been reading a ton of Robert Reed's short stories and novels on my Kindle. I love his work, a strange mix of hard science fiction and science fantasy, though his characters tend to be very clinical, sometimes even more than Alastair Reynold's characters I just wish he wrote more often; almost all of his works are short stories, and his latest novel is a limited edition signed book that goes for $40+
Finished American Gods last night, thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I think I'm going to start on A Clash of Kings
Picked up these two books today:

It's going to be fun,fun,fun.
Kudos on the premise. You could even try to go somewhat Matrix with the questioning of the fundamental notions of reality. Like for instance, he could have a hallucination that he's a superhero and therefore has powers. So he can go around trying to save people from burning buildings and such by doing crazy things that only a drugged out person would do. All the while everyone else thinks he's a hero without knowing that he's a drugged out person who may be going insane. Idk, I think you have a good idea, so keep going with it man! [editline]1st August 2011[/editline]
Well I started back up on writing my book about a man who takes insect poison, mixed with acid looking for a strong trip, but after the trip he starts dreaming while he is awake, starting from hallucinations to full out dreaming and to the point where he can't find the difference between dream and reality. I'm not giving out anymore information about it but it might hit bookstores if I get a publisher.
Kudos on the premise. (Also, it's has more potential than The Naked Lunch)
