Just finished reading Raymond Chandler's film noire trend-setter The Big Sleep, the first of many Phillip Marlowe stories I hope to read
I'm surprised to find out that Catch-22 is actually funny? I've been meaning to read it but I always thought it would be downright serious. Anyway, been reading Stephen King's It for well over a month now, I'm a slow reader. But the book is excellent!
Just came in the mail, no idea if there is an English version of this.
Sadly I've never heard an English person say it. I should bring it to the mainstream single-handedly
I'm pretty sure "Barking Spiders!" was just a joke based on the Hydrogen sniffers - Spiders mixed with dogs. But yes, this phrase should be brought into society.

It got me back into reading again. Currently about halfway through Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. I'd been slacking off for a while but I picked up the pace again since going on holiday. Both of the books of his I've read have been fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed UnLunDun also
Bumping this because I just got A Song of Ice and Fire yesterday. I'm 200 pages into Game of Thrones and it's excellent so far.
Reading Misery by Stephen King, goddamn that bitch be crazy, [sp]chopping of his legs[/sp]
The only book I read this summer was Unplugged, by Ryan Van Cleave Literally the best book I have ever read. I normally dont recommend any books but, this one will change your life. The way he describes his life is almost identical to 90% of gamers. (give or take a few details)
Reading Misery by Stephen King, goddamn that bitch be crazy, [sp]chopping of his legs[/sp]
I've only ever seen the movie, but in it [sp]she only breaks her ankles I believe.[/sp]
Just finished this:
Forensic psychiatrist Jo Beckett’s specialty is the psychological autopsy – an investigation into a person’s life to determine whether a death was natural, accidental, suicide, or homicide. She calls herself a deadshrinker instead of a headshrinker: The silence of her “patients” is a key part of the job’s attraction. When Jo is asked to do a psychological autopsy on a living person – one with a suspect memory who can’t be trusted to participate in his own medical care – she knows all her skills will be put to the test.
I had read a Stephen King quote on its author, which read like this: "If you read Sue Grafton, Lee Child...or Nelson Demille, you're going to think Meg Gardiner is a gift from heaven." Okay, so I'm a huge fan of thriller writer Lee Child. Man writes some intense shit, awesome/endearing characters, great imagery, and some really holyshitIdidnotexpectthat plot twists. "The Memory Collector" was almost the complete opposite. I can't really say I gave a shit about any of the characters; the plot twists were many but not impacting at all; more so "oh so that's how that is"; the imagery was bland and failed to capture the allure of San Francisco. Won't be getting anymore from Meg Gardiner I tell ya what. Pacing was great though, finished it in four sittings.
I've only ever seen the movie, but in it [sp]she only breaks her ankles I believe.[/sp]
In the book, she [sp] CUTS OFF HIS MOTHERFUCKING LEGS WITH AN AXE AND CAUTERISES THE STUMPS WITH A BLOWTORCH[/sp] Film got nothing on the book.
Picked these up. Also found these lying around the house.
read which was good, if very depressing at times (with it essentially being about a guy who's slowly dying, and becoming more and more useless to and separated from society). I though it was dumb how he thought he would [sp]become nothingness when he shrank beyond a certain point, but at least that didn't actually happen in the end[/sp]. Also read which was almost as good as the first book but not quite, though I saw the ending coming ([sp]specifically the Mule's true identity[/sp]) a mile off.
I'm reading Anna Karenina currently. It's amazing so far.
Just got I hope this was worth the buy.
Even if you don't enjoy the read, it's worth it considering how ingrained it is in every form of media.
Finished 'The Exiles Trilogy' by Ben Bova this week. It's pretty old, but i think it was way ahead of its times simply in terms of the way its written. I highly reccomend it, it's an epic saga of space travel.
Best book I have ever read, hands down.
Just got I hope this was worth the buy.
Funnily enough, I'm in the process of reading a brave new world, which has some interesting comparisons to 1984.
Funnily enough, I'm in the process of reading a brave new world, which has some interesting comparisons to 1984.
1984 and brave new world are the two opposites of what society could become. However, I think society has become far more along the lines of brave new world than 1984.

It's from the intro to Frederi Pohl's Gateway (1992)!
Just got I hope this was worth the buy.
It was definitely worth reading, but I didn't end up liking it too much. It was definitely interesting. I won't spoil anything, but after the second half, it kind of went down hill.
Over my holiday I read two books by Jeremy Clarkson, both very funny and easy reads, and Cell by Stephen King [sp]bit annoyed still by the ambiguity of the ending, but overall it kept me gripped.[/sp]
In the book, she [sp] CUTS OFF HIS MOTHERFUCKING LEGS WITH AN AXE AND CAUTERISES THE STUMPS WITH A BLOWTORCH[/sp] Film got nothing on the book.
waaaaaaaaait I don't remember that [editline]3rd September 2011[/editline] oh, now I do lol GREAT book [editline]3rd September 2011[/editline] wait, NO, it was only [sp]his foot[/sp] [sp]she chops it off by the ankle[/sp]
I'm reading this right now. I kind of want to read his Alternate History series. [t]http://jacketupload.macmillanusa.com/jackets/high_res/jpgs/9780812574722.jpg[/t] I also want to read some non-fiction, though.
Done reading A Fire Upon the Deep. Much better than I originally thought. Now that I'm done with the fiction I'm reading:
I got done reading Pale blue dot and Cosmos earlier this week and yesterday I finished reading At the mountains of madness after reading The colour out of space.
I just finished reading The Godfather. It's a great book.
