Surprisingly awesome. Feels like 1984 without the mindfuckery and Orwellian level of writing, brilliant in it's own right.

It's amazing.
Read 'The Boogeyman' a short story by Stephen King last night, afterwards the dark seemed way more scarier than it usually is.

A nice grotesque story about the rise and fall of John Kaltenbrunner, who grows up to become one of the most notorious characters of a rural hilbillie town in the corn belt. As a kid of a single mother he already has little interest in school or the hilbillies around him and quite successfully starts farming animals. He already has a plan: Growing his business and being left the fuck alone. But he is bullied and shunned for his refusal to have anything to do with anyone from his redneck town but bullies are nothing a can of gas and their family farm wouldn't fix. People learn quickly that it is better not to fuck with John and he becomes a figure of wild rumors. He is on the way to his dream when life takes a sudden turn for the worse. He loses everything and goes postal with his shotgun. After being shunned and sentenced to labour, he returns after serving his penalty, with not a dime in his pocket. All he wants now is to somehow make a living and being left the fuck alone. The town has forgotten his legend and all the trouble, but John sure as hell hasn't forgotten them, and trouble sure goes hand in hand with his thick head and unwillingness to take shit from anyone

I'm about 2/3 the way through The Last Heretic and have no idea which one I'll read next.

Is there any specific order to read them? I've always been fascinated by WH40k's universe, and I think I can get them on my Kindle.
today I purchased Hunger games, Palo Alto, and Good Blonde & others, failing to purchase the book I actually needed

The first 3 books are a distinct trilogy, the 4th is kind of a spin off with a few of the characters from the trilogy but the rest are their own thing. Other than that, I think the 11th is a (sort of) sequel to the 6th and the 12th and 15th are meant to be a pair. I'd recommend starting with Horus Rising or maybe the short story anthology, Tales of Heresy.
Call me a nerd, but I just ordered

One of the worst decisions I ever made was the day I loaded up all my Star Wars EU books and sold them for next to nothing. So much gold I could be re-reading now...
fcuking nerde
Yeah my favorite SW EU books are the Thrawn ones
should be made into movies but Lucas would be too mad someone writes better than him
Started reading some Sherlock Holmes

I've read The Founding and The Saint, I want to get through these six before I even think about getting The Lost.
I just finished reading this in school

I didn't really get the point of the title or the main problem in the book besides the protagonist being depressed all the damn time

the title is Holden mishearing the lyrics to a song and imagining himself as a 'catcher' in a rye field by a cliff, ensuring that children playing in the field don't fall off the edge. It's all related to his inability to cope with maturing and becoming an adult.

tl;dr: Everyone is a goddam phony.
But honestly, strayebyrd is right, and even though I found the book annoying for the amount of whining he does and how little he does about it, it's almost like he's unable to do anything about it because of his refusal to mature, because all he sees in the mature world is shit.
Just ordered a Game of Thrones, how is it in comparison to the TV Series.

I never thought I would be so moved by a novel before, let alone one by Stephen King. I was able to identify with the mc completely, his feelings about life, friends, the future, everything. Jesus christ what a story. And it was moving in the sense that it also has King's personal feelings too about writing, how the critics hate him for not producing any real meaningful work, (other than this), he seems so vulnerable. Fuck, not too good at conveying my feelings at the moment. Have a premise.
The Body is a mesmerizing tale of four young boys and their quest to find a dead body, never realizing how much death will affect their lives and their friendship.
the whole Ender's game/hunger games series are FANTASTIC.
I just ordered these two:

Just got done reading Ready Player One.

Its basically a book about a scavenger hunt in a virtual reality game and all the clues protean to nostalgia in the 80's.
Anyone read:

If so what did you think of it?

finished this fucken tomb over the summer, all 1030 pages of it!

took be about a month to get through, although i put it down for about a week at one point. it doesn't really feel like you read 1030 pages at the end of it, i highly recommend it if you have a lot of time on your hands.
