I'm not much of a YA reader, but Phillip Reeve's Mortal Engines Quartet is a pretty impressive series of books.
I'm about halfway through the final book in the Dark Tower series, and [sp]OH MY GOD NOO EDDIE NOOO JAKE[/sp] it's a really good book so far.
[sp]I absolutely love how King worked his car accident into the world of The Dark Tower.[/sp]
I tried reading the LOTR trilogy but I put it down years ago, loved the Hobbit tho
is it as good as its fabled to be or should I finish Fire and Ice first
Just finished:

And more recently:

The Singularity/SIAI trolling in this is HILARIOUS. A parody of Eliezer Yudkowsky shows up at a neuroscientist's place offering her money to be the first to be uploaded, an old oil baron turns Singularitarian and speaks at a Congress hearing re the "Human Connectome Project", talking about immortality and robots and whatnot and totally destroying any chance of it getting funded, so hilarious, a must read.
A lady gave me "The Stranger" by Albert Camus at the thrift store today. I'd been meaning to read it. Has anyone here read it?
Reading Catching Fire and The Greatest Show On Earth.
Just finished Junky, or Junk. Junky is the title for the definitive edition.
Bought Dune a few days ago. It's a bit slow so far but I'm sure it'll be great.
I tried reading Dune a long time ago but I could never get into it. It just felt really dry.
No I'm not trying to be funny with a pun. It felt like I was reading the Bible.
It was a while ago though. I might try it again sometime maybe whatever.

I've read it. Man that guy just doesn't give a single fuck. Well he has enough fuck to piss off a priest though. That was cool.
Can anyone here tell me the difference between Necronomicon: The Best Weird Tales of H.P. Lovecraft: The Best Weird Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft and H.P. Lovecraft: The Complete Fiction (Barnes & Noble Leatherbound Classics)?
The Necromincon one has got better reviews and does seem to be the most popular one in general, but the other contains all of Lovecraft's work.

David Mccullough is an amazing author.
I'm on the Amber Spyglass from His Dark Materials trilogy, it's a great series.

Just read it. God damn. It's cool that he realizes that all of that day-to-day shit was him being happy though. He really doesn't give a fuck about shit.
So for Christmas I got

and

I finished reading Looking for Alaska today, and... Well, it's probably one of my favourite books of all time. It might be because I've spent so long reading things like Tess of the d'Urbevilles for English Literature, but I really, really enjoyed Looking for Alaska.
Nearly cried halfway through. But didn't, because I'm not that much of a gigantic emotional twat.
I've started An Abundance of Katherines, but I'm finding it a bit hard to understand exactly how someone would be able to go out with nineteen girls, all of whom are called "Katherine". I mean, I've never even met ONE "Katherine" with a K, let alone NINETEEN.
But yeah. Looking for Alaska. Go check it out.
Anyone else get books for Christmas?
I've gotten 4. Two fiction, one non-fiction, and one gamebook (Still hasn't come).
I'm really loving Trench Warfare 1850-1950 by Anthony Saunders. Besides a few books about the Sieges of Petersburg, it's really the only book i've ever found to delve into trench warfare in a context outside of the first world war, which is amazing considering it dominated the battlefield the world over for more than a century and a half (the author could have easily entitled it Trench Warfare 1850-1990).

Call me odd but it's one of my favorite subjects. I looked up the publishers, Pen & Sword, and they seem to have a treasure trove of military history books that go into very detailed accounts of specific elements \ of quite a few major engagements.
Currently reading "A History of Western Philosophy" by Bertrand Russell.
I am highly interested in World War 2, but every World War 2 history book that I've picked up has been extremely boring and it is highly disappointing
Is roadside Picnic a good book, i've ordered it and i'm waiting it's arrival.
kafka owns, jsyak
I received a few books for christmas this year.
The Last Wish, Elric: Song of the Black Sword, Inheritance (I heard it received bad reviews. Have any of you guys read it?), The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever: The Illearth War, and the first four books of a Song of Ice and Fire.
Any suggestions on which one I should read first?
Just got done reading Stephen King's newest, 11/22/63. Quite good. He really seems to shine with his longer novels, I think. Under the Dome was awesome as well and it was a monster of a novel.
I'm reading bioshock : rapture and loving it, all about the man who built rapture under the sea leading to its downfall
I got a Simple Touch Nook for Christmas and am loving it so far. I got the 1,000+ page Sherlock Homes stories plus a bunch of other stuff. An Essay Concerning Human Understanding. Dracula. Einstein's Theories of Relativity. The War of the Worlds. Etc...
Does anybody know where I can get free e-books in the .epub format? Google books had a bunch, but I got all I wanted from them.

I'm spent, that's all I know of.
Thank you very much. Should swallow up a bunch of my time.
Just finished The Forever War. It's a wonderful book. Tells the story about a soldier fighting in an interstellar war, and the events between battles. The book also takes time dilation into account, which gives rise to many interesting things when he returns to Earth.
Many also say it's a reflection over the Vietnam war, but with some SF slapped on top of it.
