Loved every single page of this book, but the parts of [sp]the grandma and the grandpa were really tacked on and boring, so much so that I found myself skipping a few pages to see if the next chapter with Oskar was near.[/sp] Either way, I recommend it to everyone!
I hear it's incredibly overrated, and is one of those novels that cashes in on tragedy. From the review I read, it's a very boring personal journey set to the backdrop of 9/11.
Not human vs human, but I highly recommend these: The Forever War deals with the effects of time dilation in an unending interstellar war. The protagonist is recruited in the early 2000s to go to war with an enemy whose appearance they don't even know, and as months go by for them, decades go by on Earth.
One of my favorite books of all time. Takes coming home from Vietnam culture shock and turns it up to 11.

I honestly didn't feel that way about the whole 'cashing in' on thing, although I guess I can see how people felt it was 'too soon'. Then again, I'm a sucker for child protagonists with quirks and little eccentricities so maybe this book isn't your cup of tea. Really though, don't let the bad reviews stop you from reading this fine piece of work.
Wow, just finished reading Stephen King's 11/22/63 and [sp]from a Stephen King novel I was expecting everyone to die or something like that, I kinda liked the mixed feelings of both happiness and sadness that he conveyed at the end.[/sp] Gonna start reading "John Dies at the End" later today.
Reading Eve: Templar One. Sequel to an earlier book I recommended, Eve The Empyrean age. So far its shaping up to be a bit less expansive ins cope than its predecessor, but more personal and focused on character development, which is always nice.
I just finished this after having it recommended to me. It did make me want to keep reading it, but I'm still not entirely sure what I read.
Could someone put up a list of some of the best books recommended in this thread? I need to get started on some.
Don't know if this was posted but How To Disappear Completely by David Bowick is great. It's free but you can donate to him.
This got delivered today; And it's signed, since it was a preorder. The author signed every single pre-order book - that's 150,000 books that he signed in 75 days. Which is pretty cool. I haven't started reading it, but since Christmas I've read two of his other books, Looking for Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines, and I can't wait. Can't wait can't wait can't wait. It's about a meter away from me. I think I might start fairly soonish.

Can't find it. edit: oh, and don't be put off by the 4chan part. It's a pretty good list.

To be honest, there was some pretty intelligent people on 4chan before it became the shit hole it is today.

I just finished: It made me sad at the end ;_; Also, great book. Short read, recommend for a wintry night by the fireplace.
Not going to lie, I really hated OM&M. Most of Steinbeck, really. He drags on forever
Just started reading this jolly little book. It's actually an interesting read.
good read. a bit thick but totally worth it.
Started reading Metro 2034. So far, just as good as 2033.
Just started to dive into the Russo-Japanese War; these obscure and oft-forgotten conflicts are damn interesting:
Started reading Metro 2034. So far, just as good as 2033.
I thought they never translated 2034 yet? If they did, can you give me a link to somewhere that I can buy an english version?
I thought they never translated 2034 yet? Would have preferred that.
I'm reading The Girl Who Played With Fire at the moment, it made me cry. It's really good though, the beginning was kind of slow, but it picks up fast.

It's amazing IMO. Edit: Currently reading it :v:
Anyone has a kindle? What are your opinions on it? I just realised how insanely cheaper it can be on the long run, but that's worthless if it doesn't feel right reading on it. How does it feel in your hand? Does it tire your eyes? And which one do you have, a normal one, touchscreen one or keyboard one? If one of both later ones, what's the difference?

On the kindle front, I hear the touchsreen one is really sluggish turning pages and such.
