If that make's sense
What do you think of books based of video-games? I just finished reading Mass Effect: Retribution, I really liked it, and felt I could relate to it.
What do you think of books based of video-games? I just finished reading Mass Effect: Retribution, I really liked it, and felt I could relate to it.
I have Ascension, can't be arsed to read it though. Books based off of video games are generally fine.
I read the "The age of the five" Trilogy a few years back, and while I don't want to encourage or discourage anyone to read these books, I liked them, but it depends on personal taste a lot, I have a rather interesting story connected to them. My mom bought the books for me, because she thought I'd like them, but she bought book 3 first. I said fuck it and read them in the order 3, 2, 1. This of course spoilered the whole thing, but I still wanted to know how things came to be, so the motivation to read book 1 and 2 was there. What struck me when reading them, was how obviously the books tried to make you hate or like certain characters. While one wouldn't notice this normally, I did, because I'd come to like a character that I was supposed to hate, given the knowledge of the first book. So the whole thing got kinda fucked up. But I still want to encourage anyone to read trilogies backwards, it makes for interesting perspectives.

On friday i went out and bought four old HG Wells novels. One has Kipps and The Research Magnificent, the other is The New Machiavelli and The Food Of The Goods, another of his short stories(1.75 EACH!!), and a second-edition A Short/Brief history of the world. With a LEATHER SPINE(7.97)

I've just fallen in love with the character of Dexter Morgan. Outside of the Dexter series, I've been reading John Milton's Paradise Lost and Huxley's Brave New World. Brave New World is an interesting read, and Paradise Lost is pure fun for me. Such a great work of literature.
I heard Salinger's short stories are really good.
Yeah, simply look for the collection called Nine Short Stories. Those are his funniest. By the way, I recently finished Gibson's Burning Chrome collection, and have a copy of Count Zero, so perhaps I can resume with the Sprawl trilogy, after a couple graphic novels. I'm currently on Ultimate Avengers Vol. 1.
This, this, also this. Basically anything by John Green.
A good short book I found that was quite interesting was "The Wasp Factory" Another good story recommended by my Junior English teacher is "The Passage" Its quite a long read about a thousand pages or so but god dam it got vampires back to its scary root (though not Dracula like more mutated run for your life vampires)
Everyone here should read On Liberty. Fantastic piece of political/moral theory.
The Da Vinci code is surprisingly easy to read, understand and is also very interesting compared to what alot of people make out.
This is my favourite book. It was the first that I've only read in english and it just stuck. And it seems that alot of the stuff in the book came to reality today (stupid TV-shows that everyone watches, censorship of everything,...)
I am a fan of Dan Brown's books. Not a raving fan or anything, but I liked the books a good amount. Angels & Demons was very good and Da Vinci Code was good as well. Also read Digital Fortress and that was pretty good.
One of the best thrillers I've ever read. Second and third books are awesome too.

Just started this, and it's pretty good so far. Inspired by "The Colour out of Space" by H.P Lovecraft. As that is his best story, I knew I had to read this.
I'm a fan of Shadow over Innsmouth myself, might have to check that King book out though. I have Duma Key to read, as well as Crime and Punishment and Beyond Good and Evil. And the Prose Edda. I need to read more :ohdear:
Shadow Over Innsmouth is easily Lovecraft's worst story in terms of cultural influence to goodness ratio. [editline]14th March 2011[/editline] Colour Out of Space is not his best imo but very good.
Truth be told I'm basing that on what i can remember, I read a collection of his short stories about 4 years ago and loved the whole thing. Need to read it again :v:
Okay I haven't really read a book since like 3 months (No joke), and now looking to get back to reading. Recommend-a-book time! I usually prefer sci-fi/fantasy novels, but any good read will do. I might get started on Lovecraft, I really have to read his books.
mee faforite buck guys plz reed it. its so reelistic.
Anybody here read the Patrick O'Brian series?
Isn't he the guy who wrote Master & Commander and all those nautical books?
