Dead Souls by Nikolai Gogol Shit was so cash. [editline]16th March 2011[/editline] No, but really, it's a good book, even if it's incomplete.
Just read
Lord of the rings fuck year.
Lord of the rings fuck year.
I'm sorry, but I can't stand reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It's such out-dated language to me. I enjoy the Hobbit, and better yet, I enjoy the Children of Húrin (even if it reads like an epic). It probably just goes back to my dyslexia though.
Read when I was much younger, astonishing imagery. I wrote to the author about it and he replied to me with a hand drawn sketch of how he imagined the "cities" to look, and it was exactly how I had read it as. It blew my mind when I was younger. Once more another book from when I was younger, enjoyed the read as my uncle had recommended I read it. [sp]this same uncle recommended I watch shawshank redemption aswell, so i kinda had him pinned as someone who knew his stuff[/sp]
I feel bad because I love books, but I haven't read one in ages.

The main character's kinda stupid and messed up, but he's cool and he swears a lot. I don't get his obsession with phones and stuff like he'd call this guy a phone and all his friends are phones. It's been a while since I've read it so I've probably just forgotten some stuff.

He is a little messed up though.
Holden isn't stupid at all. In fact, he's the wisest kid I've read about in a teen novel. He is a little messed up though.
Seriously, I wouldn't call him stupid at all, but I dunno about the wisest kid ever in a novel.

I just got a Kindle and shit is so cash. I'm reading Bukowski and also stuff about astronomy and physics on the side.
Hell yeah kindles kick ass. I was reading The Virgin Suicides for the second time on mine but for some reason it keeps going back to 22% when I go to the menu so I'm re-reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas again.
I don't really like Kindles, nor any other e-reader. See if you step on a book, or stomp on it repeatedly it's still fine. You can stack them up and use it to reach high places. If you step on a Kindle, it breaks. You can't stack that shit up either. You've got hundreds of books and you can use them to get to any high places. I just don't see the point.
Books are too expensive.
By the way, I got a used copy of Don Quixote at a garage sale for a buck. Cool.
Seriously, I wouldn't call him stupid at all, but I dunno about the wisest kid ever in a novel.
Aside from Edward Tudor, give me a wiser one in classic literature?
It's true, kindles aren't ALL benefit. For example, taking your library on the road isn't an incredible workout.
Aside from Edward Tudor, give me a wiser one in classic literature?
I haven't read a lot of books, so I don't know. But I am sure there's probably a wiser kid somewhere. What about that kid in that Goosebumps book with the thing?
It was recommended that I take a book while taking bullshit state tests to keep me occupied during the time before/between/after the tests. So I took the Necronomicon. Got a lot of weird looks from the teachers.
how do you guys feel regarding classic literature vs. modern lit? I mean there are definitely exceptions in both directions but in my opinion I prefer modern books. The writing and language can be rich in older books but 20th century lit has a subtlety in basically every respect that I find older books usually lack.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? was way more bleak and creepy. The TV show was better too.
With a kindle you don't get to fill your shelves with books to appear smart. Today, the Communist Manifesto, Elmer the Patchwork Elephant and Tao of Pooh arrived. It's an exciting time for me.

Lord of the Rings is my favourite fiction book
[img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/75/Farneheit_451.jpg[/img_thumb] This is my favourite book. It was the first that I've only read in english and it just stuck. And it seems that alot of the stuff in the book came to reality today (stupid TV-shows that everyone watches, censorship of everything,...)
They were always there, infact they've gotten better since he wrote that book. He wrote during the 50's my friend, you should look up McCarthy.
Tolkien was a fantastic storyteller but really a pretty shitty writer.

You just can't compete with gods. [editline]16th March 2011[/editline] I say read it, it really strikes me as just a fantastical read. The civilian parts in the States are ignorable but it really does contrast well how different the politics were then. This book is amazing, its large but its because Heinz fully details all of his exploits as a general. Starting from when he was trying to create the Panzer Division of the Warmacht to him being kicked out of the Eastern Theater for defying Hitler. One of the funniest books I've read, it truly makes me laugh how easily some people can look at things like Jersey shore and derive with what they come up with.
Just to point this out: It's not a trilogy. Since they made it a trilogy as movies, it's just sort of stuck in my mind. Still doesn't change the fact that the book is fucking unbearable to read.
