Theres a degree of truth to that depending on what era you listen to. Personally I loved what they did with Dave Navarro on One Hot Minute back in 95. Although a lot of fans didn't like it because of the funk being dropped it was a much deeper, multi layered rock album for a band like them who before that had done an album about teenage sexual adventure.
Wow a real live Patrick Bateman.

Oh Jesus that made my day.

When you keep making music about being bullied in High School for 20 years it does grate.
Not sure why everyone is hating on King of Limbs, after a couple listens I really dug it.
maybe its just me but I felt that this:

was just...lacking. It really feels that they've changed their style a lot, I really like their older stuff but I felt that Brothers and El Camino have them going in a different direction that I just can't get in to. That's not to say that all songs on Brothers/Camino are bad, but I just felt kinda...let down.
WHAT!?!
king of limbs was the first radiohead album i listened to in full and i loved it
not sure why was everyone disappointed with lulu. like what were people expecting from lou reed anyway, it was his album mainly and metallica were more like a supporting artist to it

He wrote the album. Metallica created the music.

Seriously disappointing after how good death magnetic was.
I have to admit, I never took any of their albums too seriously.
TKOL was a little dissapointing at first but i've really warmed to it over more time. It definitely the most subtle of Radiohead's releases, and is it just me or is this their most CAN-like sounding record?

I'm guessing that was supposed to be a Beyond Magnetic picture :v:
I came in here to post Opeth's Heritage, after giving "The Devil's Orchard" another shot. Needless to say, I still find it incredibly disappointing. Like, the instrumentation is flawless; it's absolutely wonderful and exactly what it's aimed to be. Mikael's vocals are... okay. He doesn't really have a voice for psychedelic prog rock. And the fact that it was aiming to be psychedelic prog rock was why I don't really like it. The genre is really hit-miss for me, and Opeth just missed the mark for me. Like there were a few parts in "The Devil's Orchard" I started to almost like, and then it was gone.
I also came here to post Mastodon's The Hunter. It was similar, really. Compared to Crack the Skye, it seemed bland and generic, and overall completely unmemorable. I listened to the entire album at least once a month or three ago, and honestly, I completely forgot about that album's existence until I read through this thread to see if someone already posted Opeth (and it was in the OP :v:).
I liked Heritage, but that's probably because I hadn't really listened to Opeth very much prior to that, so I can't have any fanboy bias. Åkerfeldt's vocals on the album don't bother me nearly enough to ruin it for me. Famine and I Feel the Dark are really great songs.
Having seen them play the songs live on the Heritage tour might also help, though :smug:

Amarillo was okay, but the album was just underwhelming.

Uh
Did you actually listen to the whole album
Your post would have me believe you only listened to one song off it
heritage was good. Better than Damnation anyway.
heritage was good. Better than Damnation anyway.
Heritage definitely has a lot more energy and variety to it, but there's something about the flow and feel of Damnation that just can't be beat.
Ingested's "The Surreption"

Although this album isn't TERRIBLE, it feels much weaker than their debut effort "Surpassing the Boundaries of Human Suffering." Personally, I enjoy the lyrical direction of this album much more, but the music itself seems to have more of a deathcore feel to it than slamming brutal death metal. It just isn't the same.

Generally when a song that's paraded as "one of the best songs off the album" is a complete and utter miss for me, I don't bother. Care to recommend a better song to try?
wait.. you actually didn't hear the album?

Suggest a song to change my mind.

Damnation is amazing. What are you talking about?
Out of their entire discography, I would say Damnation is my favorite Opeth album. Though it's closely contested by the runner-ups of Deliverance, Ghost Reveries, and Blackwater Park (who are themselves tied, seeing as I honestly can not say one is better than the others).
I fucking love "Windowpane."

I mean, just that fucking intro riff. Hnng.
Then again, my high opinion of Damnation may be biased by my interest in slow, introspective music. So yeah. :v:
Hmm, you like Damnation a lot but have not given Heritage a listen?!
On the case of Damnation, I was slightly biased to their earlier work. So don't worry about that.
Neon Indian - Era Extraña
Could have been better considering their previous work...
Since everyone is disagreeing with me about El Camino I'll just give it another listen I suppose. I just don't like the Danger Mouse direction they're taking, but that's just me.

Uhh, they've been collaborating for a while now. Maybe you prefer their early work?

How can you say anything about whether an album is good or not if you've only heard the one song they released early, which is most definitely not the best
Just listen to the album
Uhh, they've been collaborating for a while now. Maybe you prefer their early work?
yeah, that's what I said earlier in the thread.
Ahh, I personally thought Danger Mouse refined their "dirt" sound, but I can understand how it can get generic pretty quick.
