I'm thinking of throwing an ambidextrous mag release into my M4. Has anyone seen or had experience with one?
Had one before. I replaced it with the old one after it kept bumping against my gear when it was hanging on my sling and dropping my mags. Not ideal for me doing alot of weapon transitions in CQB.

Well, that's the thing. I'm left-hand only, can't do weapon transitions at all since I can't aim using my right eye (born that way, even with glasses I can't manage to read something five feet away). I'm thinking it might actually be beneficial for me.

Same thing here, not fun. why not put something like a thimble over the non-used mag catch? (bad item idea but hey)

Have fun trying to look around left face corners.
You will have to expose your whole body pretty much.

I've managed thus far, ever hear of leaning?

Well in that case it should work. I take it when you sling your rifle the right side of the gun is facing your chest. Since that's the case you shouldn't have the mag drop issue like I had.
Why is there such fail math in this thread?
Yet we count and check inventory on every piece of airsoft equipment we own.
Priorities...
Going to my first real game at a proper field tomorrow. Anything I should know about playing on a field that's different than in the woods with friends? Also the field FPS limit is 400 but I'm not sure what my gun shoots. I am afraid it shoots over 400 and maybe around 415 being new and all, the spring I ordered from airsoft GI didn't come in the same package as the gun and hasn't showed up so I'm not sure what to do about that. Do you think the field will let me play a little hot as long as I tell them before hand?
Tried the can test (on a Diet Rite can) and shot through the bottom center. So I guess that places it somewhere around 420. Sort of concerned now, I think they have a field shop were I might be able to buy a lower spring.
They will probably have rentals or someone will have a extra gun that you can use. Just in case.

Yeah I'll bring some money for a rental. I'm taking comfort in the fact the can tests are apparently not so legit as I originally thought. I guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.

Dunno if there's still enough time left, but keep the spring compressed til you get there tomorrow.

Oh shit, what does that mean again? I'm sorry, this is why I'm posting in the newbie section.
Compress the spring, squash it, push down on it, etc.

Fire in full auto and do not release the spring. You release the spring by shooting in semi. So do not fire your last shots in semi.
When you are not trying to compress the spring, always decompress it by shooting in semi.

Thanks, this was the answer I was looking for. Though now I'm not sure if it's shooting as hot as I think. Reviews have generally reported nothing above 400 minus one site which said 430. The majority of sites also say 350+ or 350-400. How much FPS will I loose by compressing? Are there any other issues that could come with it? I might just order a spring and go next weekend or use a rental gun.

You will generally lose about 10 FPS over a night or two. But you shouldn't be worried, if it is 10 fps over they should be pretty lax about it; go ahead and compress your spring anyway though, just for good measure.

Alright thanks.
Alright guys, I think I'm, gonna do an internal overhaul on my PDW.

Recommend me a piston please.
Probably going to get an Airsoft GI inner barrel.
An Echo 1 spring guide (once I figure out what version).
And yeah, I might just go to the local store and see what he recommends.
Shouldn't really need a new piston unless it's shredded. The only thing you would need is a new piston head and oring if you're getting poor compression.
I was wondering if anybody had any experience with this,

Would it be a good gun for a somewhat beginner?

Battery and Charger not included.
I wouldn't advise.
Battery and Charger not included.

Just because the battery and charger are not included? Normally Higher-End Airsoft guns don't give those to you.
[editline]06:16PM[/editline]
Just tell him what to get with it. As long as he has the money for them he's good. If he's anything like me he'll fuck up his battery with that damn wall charger they give you.
Beside that it doesn't come with a battery
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that even if they do give you a battery and charger doesn't mean you're good to go because alot of newbies burn out their batteries with the stupid wall charger. It happened to me, happened to other people I knew.
If he's serious about getting a good airsoft gun he should spring for a decent battery and charger.
[editline]06:20PM[/editline]
Rather then just going with the cheaper gun because it comes with everything he needs in a package.

DO IT! It's a G.I. Custom! So what if it doesn't come with a battery. The guns are quality! I love my G4-A5. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

What he said. Just get a basic smart charger and a battery, I'll go look and suggest something to you after I eat if you want.
Sure that would be great, then again it would probably be a while till I can get this gun, gotta save the 250ish again.

Actually, according to my account, if you type in the coupon code "Tim", it brings the gun down to:
$240.00
Sub-Total: $240.00
Free UPS Ground Shipping (For orders of $100.00 or more ($2.60 Handling Fee)): $2.60
Discount Coupons :tim: -$24.00
Total: $218.60
Okay, after inspection it tells you right there what you want, a nunchuck battery.
Unfortunately it's out of stock;
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=2995
But for about the same price, you can get this one, same brand, 9.6v as well.
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_47&products_id=3360
You can get a 8.4v if you want, but they last alittle less longer and they tend to have a lower ROF.
As for a charger, ANYTHING is better then the wall charger they give away free with most guns. I'm pretty new at the charger things, I recently got my own smart charger and I ended up burning them out anyway because I'm clueless as to the operation.
This should be fine, there are cheaper alternatives and more expensive ones but this should cover all your bases. You may want to have someone else suggestion you a good charger.
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_74&products_id=471
If you get that, or any charger you'll most likely need this;
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_108&products_id=589
You may or may not need it, but it's only five bucks and you can use it for any other guns you may get in the future or to charge your friends guns on the spot.
[editline]06:34PM[/editline]
Upon inspection you NEED that adapter for the battery, so get the Large to Small connector.
what's the best pellet/bb gun for around 90-100$?
