Radiation Hardened Camera Used During Reactor Refueling Operation

Fascinating shit, I've wanted to develop rad hardened electronics for the longest, shame there's only like two fabs that make them.
Whoa. That is insanely cool.
How does one start a nuclear reactor? Obviously the control rods can't be in place and prohibiting a reaction, but do you need to generate a burst of neutrons or will the fuel start the reaction on it's own?
It's called spontaneous fission.
Some elements when they decay into daughter elements will instead of decaying normally, give off neutrons. Some isotopes have a higher probability of this happening than others.
There are also other sources of neutrons that could be used to start a chain reaction such as stellar radiation.
