Wasn't the most amazing movie ever. Robert Downy Jr. was very funny though.
I preferred this to Avatar, because the story was a million times better.
I thought it was a good re-imagining of the series. Gave it an 8.
It's a good movie.
Good movie. I've read all the Holmes novels/short stories and I was a bit worried I'd be dissapointed, but they presented it well. To everyone complaining that they killed the character: Conan Doyle never intended for Sherlock Holmes to be anything more than a cash cow. He sold the stories because people ate 'em up like a twilight fan eats...well any comfort food.
It's Sherlock Holmes pimped for people with ADD. What's not to like?
I just saw it today. I both enjoyed it and found it ridiculously boring.
Sherlock Holmes was in his garden, tending to a fruit tree. Watson walked up and asked him: "What type of tree is that? "It's a-lemon-tree" (Say it out loud) :smug:
Can someone explain this to me, I'm lost. Boxes are welcome, I'll probably deserve them. :downs:
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie
I really liked it. Robert Downey Jr. got Holmes down just right. And the chemistry between him and Jude Law was great. But I thought the depiction of Watson was great aswell. Got him right rather than those movies and TV shows that showed him as a bumbling incompetent idiot for cheap laughs. The story was good but it could have been better, and I wanted more of the actual detective work and analytical sequences. Still a great movie. 8/10
Everyone thinks Holmes was just a good-natured detective who wore deer hunter clothes. He never wore the deer hunter clothes, he was an extremely accomplished martial artist, trained in virtually every form of martial arts, and he was an avid cocaine addict. He was a bit of an asshole, but not exactly intentionally. Like in the movie when[sp]He is at dinner and sitting with Mary, analyzing her. He didn't continue because he wanted to offend her, its because he couldn't stop himself, and you can see the sadness in his eyes after they leave.[/sp]He constantly analyzed the world around him, which made it impossible for him to stop until he couldn't continue. The movie very closely followed the stories.
Personally I liked it more than avatar because it actuallt got me thinking and the story was more interesting. Avatar was a great movie, but the story was a bit cliché.
I heard a bunch of kids praising this during French class and I couldn't help say, "The movie sucks if you've read the books" to which they all responded, "What? There's no Sherlock Holmes books!" God that made me rage.
I preferred this to Avatar, because the story was a million times better.
You have no idea what story is, do you?
While it wasn't true to the books, it was a good way to re-imagine Sherlock Holmes for the modern audience who wouldn't appreciate the deeper universe and literature of the books. Overall it was a fun movie to just watch, we need more of these movies today. Sure it wasn't certain which path it wanted to take and wandered from serious to comical action, but they set it up for a sequel and the acting was pretty decent on top of a cool art style, so let's hope they make a decent series out of these. There needs to be a new series of movies nowadays to replace the original Indiana Jones trilogy, those were fun movies, but we can't seem to get adventure movies quite right for some reason now.

It was true to the books, I'm not sure about the Lord Blackwood part, but the characterization was true to the books. Please fucking read them, THEN say that.
The story for the movie wasn't from any of Conan Doyle's works. That's probably why so many people are bitching about it not following the stories, because it wasn't from the stories.

I wish it wasn't about Sherlock Holmes. [editline]08:06AM[/editline] It will fuck up the perception for younger audiences that do not know who Sherlock Holmes is.
The movie was like :D and i was like :D and i have a new fictional character i am a fan of
It was fucking awesome.
Can someone explain this to me, I'm lost. Boxes are welcome, I'll probably deserve them. :downs:
"a-lemon-tree" Elementary. Watched this movie with my two friends a week ago and we all thought it was great. Maybe a bit slow and boring in some parts, but the crazy analytical and fight scenes made up for it. ;D
i hated the ending it was like a total slap in the face it was like the screen gave you a giant middle finger but the rest were good

I think in the sequel Brad Pitt will play Moriarty. Can't wait.
couldn't understand what sherlock was saying half the time
couldn't understand what sherlock was saying half the time
You need to clean the earwax out of your ears, it's not like he was a drunken Irishmen jabbering between English and Gaelic.
I watched this because Avatar was sold out. Good movie, haven't read the books. The main characters were brilliant, I agree that Blackwell wasn't great, but he was very confident in his tricks, I suppose.
Never heard of the new movie. Should I watch it?
I felt it was a little underrated, but it wasn't perfect by any means.
