deadmau5 sucks black flag rocks acid techno is my eternal love that is all [editline]18th December 2010[/editline]
an example of a good electronic artist is Clark. an example of a horrible one that makes me want to throw up is deadmau5 [editline]18th December 2010[/editline] aphex twin isn't shit either what the heck is up with your opinions
rusty i haven't said this nearly enough but i love you and your abrasive posts no homo [editline]18th December 2010[/editline]
Aphex Twin are good examples of complex music
how is aphex twin complex most of his songs are quite short and the drums are supposed to slur together and that's only on his 1996-1999 stuff which isn't even his best stuff in my opinion something like Xtal is quite simple
The more I think about it the better that analogy that guy from 4chan posted. It's pretty fucking brilliant. But also OP, I think you maybe trying too hard to understand why, like I said before some people are just more easily amused and have more simple-minded tastes. It may sound like a douchey and over-simplified answer but it's also true. That and if you actually like the repetitive sound being played over and over again then it's not so unbearable, which is the case why dubstep splits so many opinions.
Have you ever stopped to think how much this seems like it was supposed to be a parody of your last wonderfully successful thread?
I really don't like how some people consider more complex and difficult to play music better. Dragonforce and Aphex Twin are good examples of complex music being kinda shit and if you want to judge genres, Classical music is probably the most complex and it's mostly pretentious wankers who like it (not all, I like some).
It's definitely not the case all together, but it's true to a degree. Wouldn't you agree that your musical tastes were probably simpler when you were younger? It's like comparing juvenile stuff like this to this Yeah its Tiesto, but it gets the point across.
acid techno is my eternal love
303 love yo
Don't know why people assume anything electronic is automatically going to be a high BPM and for neds. Good example of chilled dubstep, see kids, dubstep isn't all WUBWUBWUB. Example of something relaxing from a trip-hop album. As for remixes, Diplo is my favourite because he doesn't just remix the song, he makes it sound the way it would've sounded if he had produced the track himself.
Aphex Twin

kinda shit
shut the fuck up
I agree with you on the Dubstep part, cause dubstep is just an autistic version of DnB, but the Techno part is a very broad genre. I can listen to electronic music all day cause I understand it better than acoustic music. But the same thing can be said the other way around which is where OP stands. Alot of work goes into that 40 second loop. Probably the same amount of work that goes into a really awesome guitar riff/solo. Each note and chord has to compliment then next. But people who listen to electronic music don't hear it as "noise", alot of instruments are being used into one song. Granted that there is really only one or two conventional instruments being used, Keyboards mostly, but a multitude of synths are used to get different sounds. This song is one of my most favorite songs and has been for a long time. Even before I was really into electronic music: BT - Flaming June But to retouch on the OP's topic, electronic is a really new thing compared to other genres of music. It is defiantly an acquired taste. However, alot of people get into electronic through taking ecstasy and going to raves. lol alot of my friends did that and now are becoming really awesome electronic producers.
Everyone has different tastes. Everyone disagrees, nobody is right. Who cares.
I was recently trying to expose myself to a lot of electronic music via web radio. Some of it was good, but a lot of it was just too much on the bright side of things for me. I'm sure some there is some more mellowed out electronic music out there, but I just couldn't find it that time. I don't like it when everything is upbeat and peppy. If anybody has suggestions for a less upbeat web radio station let me know.

I just discovered Justice. That's a good group.
real music^
I listen to most kinds of electronic, with the exceptions of modern Techno, all Noise, Trance, non-instrumental Dance, Hardstyle/Jumpstyle, Chicago House, Deep House and all the boring stuff. My favourites are Progressive House, Synthpop, Electropop, Trip Hop, Dubstep, Electro House, Oldskool Rave and Downtempo.
real music^
There is no 'real' music. There is bad music and good music. It is all subjective to people's tastes. I fucking hate the term 'real' music. Whoever uses it shows they are ignorant about music.
I listen to most kinds of electronic, with the exceptions of modern Techno, all Noise, Trance, non-instrumental Dance, Hardstyle/Jumpstyle, Chicago House, Deep House and all the boring stuff.
You saying Chicago House and Deep House are boring?
You saying Chicago House and Deep House are boring?
House is a pretty boring genre, if not the most boring. Has less to do with subjectivity and more to do with how unprogressive its been the last 20 years.
you could consider the sub-genres as progression, though cause then it's become pretty diverse in 20 years
How can you dislike this, it's so awesome! I don't really know what to say in this thread, because I mostly don't listen to just electronic music or just metal, most of what I listen to is a mix of both. v:v:v
BRRBRBRBR /random samples.
I like listening to stuff that gets me going, a lot of techno, dubstep, and the like convey a good range of emotions. I actually made a CD of Chiptune this morning and quite a few people want me to make copies for them, and they don't listen to this kind of stuff on a regular basis.
Clubland is incredibly shit.
Have you ever stopped to think how much this seems like it was supposed to be a parody of your last wonderfully successful thread?
...Nope, apparently this hasn't been considered at all.

Honestly I think vertically styled music will over-take "horizontal" music eventually. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like music has gotten a lot more vertical the past few decades? Bit off topic but I like BT as well. Satellite is one of my favorites.
k I don't see the appeal.
Fuck off with that. I hate when people say it.
Using that /mu/ analogy, wouldn't progressive rock/metal be seen as sort of diagonal?
Using that /mu/ analogy, wouldn't progressive rock/metal be seen as sort of diagonal?
the analogy is about how you listen to it, not how the music is made
Fuck off with that. I hate when people say it.
nah I don't see the appeal in fucking off
Well this is strange. I could listen to the video you posted in the OP for hours on end yet at the same time it makes me want to punch whoever made it in the face as hard as humanly possible. Also the Op.
Yes! XKCD always knows how I feel.
I dislike a lot of amateur makers of electronic music because they seem to think that the best electronic music is just the same thing over and over and that's all they have to do to make their music. It isn't the same thing over and over, they do a ton to make it interesting. If it was just the same passage repeated with no changes, it would be boring.
I don't normally comment on it. But god it pisses me off. These "artists" get heaps of recognition very easily for doing something that's incredibly easy and requires almost no natural talent. They take samples and place them in a specific order and people think they're the coolest people on earth. Pretty much anyone can do it passably. There is good electronic music but that's always the experimental stuff that actually uses creativity. Or the kind that actually shows musical talent through complex production or actual instrumentation (ie. Radiohead, Bass Communion, ambient music, some dnb.) But I cannot respect or condone this repeditive shit that people keep mindlessly churning out. I don't think it's particularly laughable to imagine a future where a live concert consists of someone playing an audio track whilst people dance, not DJing or anything; just playing the song. And that's not a good thing in my eyes. And there's my little rant on the subject. Sorry if I've pissed anyone off, I normally shut up about it, people can like what they like, but the culture surrounding it and what it's doing to the music industry and music in general is incredibly annoying to me.
