no one can fuck with Take_Opal anymore because kid a is my favourite radiohead album
i love how they pulled of the secret booklet thing in that album.
almost as good as the X controversy between ok computer and in rainbows
Because I like to.
this is a legit question, and could raise some interesting discussion, but only if Take_Opal didn't feel like he has to act like a fucking prick to anyone who answers it.
i for one only listen to it on a party, a night out, or when being with friends, because it's generally fun to sing along to a shit remix of nothing else matters, or some new fancy electric song no one really likes, but everyone knows it because theres always some kid with a mobile phone playing it over and over.

i would never pick this music over the music i usually listen, or listen to it when i'm just trying to enjoy music.
Everyone, but you and a few others were being ass holes until I had to be a dick to show them that they're completely missing the point. And even after they answer it they do it just in spite of my question

Kid A is my favorite too.
Saying opinions is fucking retarded because it's redundant to state "I have an opinion" because it's only human nature to have one. It's a cop-out.
You don't like something because "opinions". You like something because you have a reason. An opinion is something achieved through having reasons. You're short changing yourself if you just clump everything into "opinions."
I don't know why I like electronic music to be honest. I just do. There's something about it, I can't quite put my finger on it, it just kind of resonates with me. This goes for pretty much all the music I like. As long as it has a nice groove, riff, vocal hook, whatever, as long as it resonates with me in some way, I like it.
I'm saying it to that part only. Because it's dumb to say. And to anyone else who has said "OPINIONS!!"
[editline]27th December 2010[/editline]
And even more hostility. Normal people don't become so defensive when someone's opinion differs.
So, in the future calm the fuck down. Thanks.
Still not answering my question. It's as if you didn't have a answer

Refer to:
For the reason people listen to "horizontal" music given in this:
"A helpful analogy is that you can listen to music horizontally (where the enjoyment comes from following the development or narrative of the track) or vertically (where the enjoyment comes from appreciating different ways that the simultaneous layers of the track overlap and interact). A lot of repetitive electronic music is very vertical as opposed to horizontal music."
Really, everything that what you call "electronic" music does, is the why I like the opposite. I personally find that say, something like Kid A (been listening to it a lot) is very textured and has a lot of depth to it, while dubstep and stuff like that may have some depth, but honestly it's very little. There may be complexity but that doesn't make it more than what it is, dance music.

Good. We understand eachother. You know why I like electronic, I know why you like other stuff.

No, this thread wasn't about you.
It was about why people like electronic music. I explained.
[editline]28th December 2010[/editline]
Been explained multiple times, by other people too.
And I haven't been posting actively until this page. It's not me keeping the thread alive. And if you really don't like the idea of this thread existing and continuing, then ignore it.
well some people like dubstep and other "new noise" because it's just that, new noise. Its exciting for some people to hear that even if its not necessarily complex. How about some Mozart? Its a lot more complex than a lot of modern music, but you could care less, because it's old noise and you prefer something newer, something more exciting. Same spiel with dubstep, whether you find it exciting or obnoxious is up to you. But it is new noise, and thats reason enough for a lot of people to like it.
woooobwoooobwooob
I do a the same thing thing with traditional instrumental music. It's all pretty similar.
I like instrumentals a lot. Thing is, my favorite genre of music is probably Ambient, and it's really hard to make good ambient music with traditional instruments. There are a few artists that do it really well but most of the time it's dominated by synths and the like.
I can't really give you a straight answer given the question that you're asking. I really have to be very obtuse given the subject matter.

imo noise music is only good when it's non-grating noise and dubstep is grating as hell.

A genre that is essentially drum n' bass at half speed is supposed to get you up and dancing?
...Odd.
Yeah i can't see anyone dancing to dubstep and not looking like a twat

it's not the speed people are appreciating but the noise itself. It's new, alien sounding, and the sheer aggressiveness of it is obviously enough to move (some) people. Besides theres plenty of dubstep songs out there that have high BPM or have have parts that have high BPM. Anyways I'm not particularly crazy about it, but hearing some new noise excites me. Speed isn't everything, if it were true then we'd be all listening to gabber or the likes.
It's quite simple though, if you like the wobbles you like dubstep, if you don't you hate it. Personally I really appreciate the alien-ness of dubstep songs like the one posted below.

The problem is there is nothing new about the sound. Aggressive tracks have been around since artists decided to express their angst through music. Alien sounding? That sounds like something you would use to describe a trippy sound scape produced from a 303, or better yet used to describe the entire electronic genre.
Like this (Also has angst.). Aggressive, "alien sounding", and danceable:

No sound is "new", it is merely cycled through as a trend.
ohgod that was terrible

what you've posted isn't alien-sounding at all to be honest, its pretty much old rave sounds. It doesn't really matter how "new" you think wobbles are, the fact is their usage is relatively new. I wasn't arguing that people listen to dubstep just because its aggressive though, its just part of it.

You're thinking presently, back when the 303 was first used to create bass lines (This track was made around that time) it was "alien sounding" and pretty hip.
Plus, wobbling basslines have been used since forever in drum n' bass, just not to the extreme of in which dub step does it.

I'd agree, but that was in the past. I'm thinking presently like you've mentioned.

The extreme is what makes the noise new, its a pretty damn noticeable difference. It's a different sound altogether. It would be like arguing that electric guitars didn't sound new because acoustics existed beforehand. It's bit like a blueprint, but it was never taken to the extreme, in which turns out to be pretty different.

Agreed, a similar thing happened when some people decided that trance would be REALLY awesome sped up and drowned with kick drum; thus hard style is born.
It turns out that the "wobbling" sound is actually an extreme of a reece bassline effect, which is used a lot in drum n bass like I mentioned earlier. The difference between the reece and the "wobble" (What would be the official name for a wobble?) is that a reece bassline does the "wobbling" in short pulses while the "wobble" bassline takes much longer to jump from intensity to intensity.

There is Chilled Dubstep.
There is Chilled Dubstep.
There is also dark dubstep (see dmz, kode9, etc. Usually described as inventors of the genre.) So like the guy quoting me was trying to say. Dubstep isn't just wubs and wobs. If you want to only refer to the heavy kind I suggest using the term "brostep"
or midrange cack
Chilled dubstep:

And... *shudder*... BROstep:
