I like the build of the 3100 better than the 5100. I appreciate the streamlining, but... :raise:
The 3100 feels really cheap though. Compared to the D5000 and the D90 that is.
yes, but the layout looks better and even a bit more advanced than the 5100. From what the article reads the 5100 should be lighter than the 5000, which will make it equally cheap feeling in the hands.
Yeah but the buttons and switches on the D3100 are horrible. The release mode switch feels like it will fall off when you slide it. My friend's D5000 is much nicer in the hands. Also, why does the viewfinder on the D5000 dim when the battery is removed(Doesn't happen when you turn the camera off). Is it backlit or something? It doesn't happen with my 550D. At first I assumed it was the aperture closing(Since the aperture defaults to closed), but nope. It also has this grainy/dirty look to it when you take the battery out which I couldn't see with it in.
i have noticed this [editline]7th April 2011[/editline] on a d3000 as well
I noticed that too. Hold up, testing with 7000 [editline]6th April 2011[/editline] odd, it just flicks on/off as you put in the battery. Wonder what that is.

Wonder what that is.
apparently this has to due with the LCD overlay within the viewfinder that displays the information and focus points, so yes something to do with backlighting
to do with the focusing screen - needs power for on demand grid lines etc and to generally work
But it only dims when the battery is pulled, not when you turn the camera off. Seems like that would be a pretty big waste of power to me.
But it only dims when the battery is pulled, not when you turn the camera off. Seems like that would be a pretty big waste of power to me.
As with almost everything, it is still drawing small amounts of power when it's still connected to a power source.
LCD screens require very little power compared to anything else. Digital watches last years, as do calculators and other little dodads that are using their processors more often than a camera in off-mode. [editline]6th April 2011[/editline] nostalgiaaaa I just found the photo that more or less got me interested in photography. This scan is crap, the original has really vivid grass [img_thumb]http://gyazo.com/b08d00c1e67bea595f7aa5cecf255a89.png[/img_thumb] it's me probably in... '89. It's nothing spectacular, but as a kid the depth of field really made this shot stand out to me, I always wanted to reproduce the effect but until I graduated high school I only had point-and-clicks. I now have my dad's old camera and lenses, the same he used here. :3:
Oh god, my friend wants me to take gig shots of his band tonight But my lens is only 3.5 and high ISO makes everything INCREDIBLY noisy Better pray that Lightroom has enough noise reduction [editline]7th April 2011[/editline] I wonder if the noise reduction built in my camera will assist with that... hmmmm

The camera doesn't do NR on RAW files, which is good because then you can fine tune it later instead, and retain more detail.
Ok marvelous, didn't know that. Hoping for the best heh funny thing though, it does noise reduction and raw on my olympus, gonna post a test shot in creative photography
Ugh, I really regret getting my sigma 50mm now. I should have gotten the canon 50mm instead. Now I have to get the 7d body with micro adjust instead of the 60d, which will set me back $500 more. I can't even sell my sigma either because no one is going to buy a lens with focusing issues. fml :(
Return the Sigma for a refund and not a replacement instead of going through so much grief.
Return the Sigma for a refund and not a replacement instead of going through so much grief.
It's too late for that. You can only refund it like 3 days or a week after it arrives (i forgot which one it is). Shame it took me longer than that to realise not refunding it for a canon was a bad idea.

Mention that and they'll likely accept a refund. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_liability#Types_of_liability It's a shame the US laws aren't as strict as EU/UK ones. They guarantee a 2 year period for which a product is non-defective.
I guess I could talk to customer support and see if i can sort something out. (btw i'm australian, so i have no idea what the law regarding refunds is here) [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] I wrote something up to send to customer support on DigitalRev. Should I revise on anything or is this good enough?
Hi, around a month ago I ordered a sigma 50mm lens off the website which ended up shipping to me with a focusing defect. I was told to send it back and refund it for another sigma 50mm, which I did. However, I received a second lens which had a focusing defect just like the first one. I know the focusing problem isn't my camera’s fault because I tried mounting the faulty lens on several camera bodies which gave the same problematic outcome. I didn’t send the lens back at the time though because I didn’t want to cause anymore fuss with shipping , but lately it has really been bothering me and interfering with my photography and I’ve decided I want to send it back for a canon 50mm 1.4 instead. I want to know if it’s still too late to refund the lens at this time. It’s been around a month since I received my sigma 50mm. The lens has only been used on three separate occasions and I still have all the package components with me.
it's faulty. you paid shitloads for broken glass. GET A REFUND DON'T GET A 7D. The microfocus adjustment will do nothing if it's as bad as you say
Okay I sent it to customer support. If it works then I will probably go for the 60d instead of the 7d (which I will able to afford next week).
is it ok to send back? no, demand a fucking refund
I would advise you to get a cash refund and buy the Canon from a more reputable seller with a better refund policy.
I would advise you to get a cash refund and buy the Canon from a more reputable seller with a better refund policy.
DigitalRev has a fine refund policy and it's a very trustworthy site. Just checked that the warranty for the lens lasts til 2012, so they should be able to accept the refund. I must have mistaken the 3-7 day thing for something else.
So my dad flipped out at me for not using pop up flash and just completely refusing to use it. He said he demands his camera back so I gave it back to him. I'll start posting here again when I get my Canon 1000D
wait what your dad got his camera back from you because you wouldn't use the pop up flash in your photos?
is your dad mentally deranged
apparently, it went like this "Why didnt u use the pop up flash on that concert..." "Because it makes pics look plastic and ugly like fuck" "WHY DO U THINK IT'S ON THERE???" "I ask myself the same question tbh, it really does make photos bad, I can even let you read up on it." "WHAT IF U WERE PAYED TO SHOOT A WEDDING AND HAD TO USE THE POP UP FLASH?? WUD U RUIN THEIR PICS THAT WAY!!" "Firstly, if I was ever good enough to shoot a wedding I'd be using a flash that I could bounce, or have proper lighting to avoid the use of flash" "BUT WHAT IF YOU HAD TO, YOU'RE SO FUCKING STUBBORN YOU WONT GET ANYWHERE WITH THAT!!!!" "Bad example, but George Bush was stubborn and he went places as far as I know regardless of him being hated." then I leave, come out and get my coke and he bashes me again and I go "You know what, fuck it, I apparently know nothing and I refuse to use your camera again. I may aswell give up" ...
enjoy your 1000D. Buy a speedlite for it.
Gotta wait 2 months as it is
fuck that is really unfair dude. oh well, we can wait on our bodies together :respek:. i think it'll be a month or two til i get my 60d.
