Formatted my hard drive but the portable hard drive I had my stuff backed up onto got corrupted... managed to recover some things but I lost thousands of photographs :frown:
I'm contemplating the Sigma 30mm 1.4. DigitalRev's video comparing it with the Nikkor 35mm 1.8 didn't help either one rise above the other. I like sigma's size and the extra 2/3rds stop of light you get, but the focus is sluggish compared to the nikkor. Damn it looks better though. If I can find one used on sale for the same price as the nikkor, great, otherwise I'mma be a cheap bastard

also contemplating getting a fisheye converter to screw onto the end of a 52mm lens, it'd be fun.

I really think that's what I need. Especially with the photography I do - the 50mm on a crop is just a little too tight sometimes, indoors especially, which means I always have to change back to the 18-whatever lens, and shoot at 18. I very rarely use the zoom on it.

bro u stealin my ideas
but yeah I was thinking about it too, asked about it in the Which camera is right but didn't get a reply
ah. Well, from what I'm seeing online people's biggest gripe is the price gap for the little improvement, and the focus 'issue' with the sigma. There's nikon lens purists out there for a reason, though, so it's kind of drawing me in. I'd like a bulkier lens just for the "stand back! I'm a ~professional~" factor, since my 50mm 1.8 right now makes my D7000 look almost like a big bridge point-n-click
Gah, I had the 35mm 1.8 nikkor in my possession for a few days but sent it back because the company wasted my time, never unwrapped and used so I can't tell you how good tis! :(

Yeah I looked into some reviews and stuff and like you said, the focus issue was the biggest concern from what I've read. I have a Canon 7D so it is either the sigma, a canon 28mm f2.8 or the f1.8 version.
The video performance on the T2i is amazing for the price.
This is a still from my old Canon SX20 that I used to use for video.
720p

And the T2i...
1080p, ISO 400, and f3.5

Now just waiting for a 50mm f1.4 to roll my way.

If you're concerned about how it looks, then get a battery grip.
i keep getting told me 1000D+50mm 1.8 looks like a shittyzoom
I'm gonna order the Sigma 30mm 1.4 today... so I'll tell everyone what it's like. I know I've seen a few people considering it.

All that money gone :frown: Well it should be here by monday.

It'll be worth it.
I used the sigma 30 1.4 on a 550D in these shots here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jhaslehurst/sets/72157626229184580/
i strongly recommend getting it, once you have it you'll never take it off (your APS-C camera)
If you decided to upgrade from say a 550d to a full-frame 5d would it still be possible to use that lens?
nope, it's an EF-S mount lens
If you look at your EF-S lenses they have a bit of plastic around the rear element that would get in the way of the mirror on a full frame camera, EF lenses don't have this.
Oh right I forgot the Sigma was EF-S. This is why I'm not too sure about getting this lens because it would deter me from getting a full-frame in the future.
by the time your ready to drop ~$3000 into a full frame setup a ~$400 lens isn't going to be much trouble, sell it for 3/4 of its value and get a 50 1.4 to replace it.
is it that good for filming?
Yes.
As of 11am this morning my lens was with the delivery courier, leaving from London-Heathrow. I live like 20 minutes from Heathrow, so I don't know why I haven't recieved it yet as it's now 4:30. Well hopefully it will arrive today at some point.
"6:52pm Delivery attempted; recipient not home"
WHAT THE FUCK. MY WHOLE FAMILY WAS AT HOME. NO ONE RANG THE DOORBELL. FUCK YOU DHL, FUCK YOU.
hurry up and call to see if you can pick it up before they close

I have a Velbon DF-60, It's alright but I wouldn't trust it in high winds with a heavy camera+lens on it.
