So, in a few weeks I'm going to be hiking over 200 miles, which is probably going to take at least 2 weeks and obviously I must take my camera.
It's a D70s, which is pretty bulky as SLR's go, and I'll probably be taking a 50mm and my 10-20mm. The 50mm is small but the wide angle lens is pretty huge. Does anyone have any ideas on good straps or holsters? Wrapping the strap around my hand or having it dangle from my neck for 2 weeks is going to get tiresome really quickly, and also pretty dangerous. The front elements have had some close shaves when dangling in front of me while I'm scrambling up some rocks, on several occasions :v:
I already have a holster but it doesn't fit well onto bag straps (sags and sways from side to side which gets pretty irritating after a few hours walking) and it's a tight squeeze getting my camera in.
Something like this would be pretty awesome, but I dont think not on sale.

http://www.peakdesignltd.com/
I've a blackrapid and its nice to carry, it goes around the shoulder but its pretty expensive. There's a cheaper alternative but I don't know the name of it. The only problem with this solution is it will dangle to your right/left side and could get knocked off some rocks. Maybe a padded bag and a shoulder strap would be the best combo?
Can anyone suggest me a (super) wide angle lens for my Pentax ME Super?
I have a 50mm 1.7 and a 28-85 f3.5-4.5
Don't care which brand, as long as it fits my pentax and isn't very expensive
i saw a nikon a2020 at goodwill for $75. It had a nikon superflash thing (positional to 4 different positions) and a 28-85 lens. Super good deal or what?
$75 seems a little steep, especially from a Goodwill. At the very least, bring some batteries and see if it works.
Personally I'd take my $75 and look for a more reliable and well-known SLR like a Canon AE-1, Nikon FE, Pentax ME, Olympus OM10, or a Minolta x700.
I don't have a lot:
Canon T70
Hoya 70-150mm f3.8 (and yes, Hoya does manufacture lenses, or at least did)
Canon 50mm f1.8
Tokina 28-70mm f3.5-4.5
Tokina 28mm f2.8 (but the focusing ring is broken)
I'll post a picture later, can't at the moment.
EDIT:
Pic, sorry for quality:

I was thinking about buying one of those. That or an AE1. I dunno. Just an old film camera.
Getting an old film camera on ebay is very difficult, all due to those damn fuckheads who do autobidding meaning you have to bet loads for it to stop outbidding you straight away. At least I cost them £60 more than what they were expecting, asshats.

So this is my Canon FD gear.
Because you cannot clearly see everything on this picture i will list the things here:
Bodies:
Canon F-1 Original with Winder F
Canon EF
Canon T90
Lenses:
Canon fd 28mm f/2.8 S.C.
Canon nFD 35mm f/2.8
Canon fd 50mm f/1.4 S.S.C. (on F1)
Canon fd 50mm f/1.8 S.C. (on EF)
Canon fd 50mm f/3.5 S.S.C. Macro
Canon nFD 85mm f/1.2L
Canon 135mm f/2.5 S.C.
Canon nFD 200mm f/4.0
Thats some sweet gear.
Fucking hell, my 300mm just broke, and there is no more warranty, plus my 35mm is at a friends place.

It's in nice condition and I have other cameras, I just didn't know if I could buy it and sell it. But I guess not, it seemed expensive anyways. The flash was fucking nice though.
and frag that's an awesome set of lenses you have there! I've been meaning to get a 50mm FD macro for a while. the lens on the far right looks like my 70-135mm zoom lens, but I bet optically it is a lot better.
Think you're cool with your 120, 4x5, even 8x10?

Think again.
Holy fuck that thing produces some great shots, the dudes quite a good photographer too from what I could see.

Well i don't even use the 50mm macro, i like doing macro on digital, because i have a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM macro for that
The lens to the far right is my 200mm F4 lens, it's a simple lens, and optically it's not astounding, but i got it for free, and in fact i am looking for the older 200 4 SSC version, because i like the looks of that one better.
Lenses i use the most for FD are as following: 50 1.4SSC, 85L, 28SC
I do like the 135mm too but i haven't really used it quite a lot yet, but it's a really good lens.
I just bought myself a camera bag for my expedition to Peru.
I think I needed something bigger than the bag I currently have, which doesn't even fit my camera + 2 lenses...
My Mamiya C22 was a broekn film advance mechanism, I need to pay $95 to get it fixed :/ ah well, just 35mm for the next week.

Wow, the pentaprism is huge. Didn't realise just how big they were.
Wonder what the size of the pentaprism in my d80 is compared to that
The prism on my p67 is bigger than an EF 50 1.4

Size comparison to an XT (the EOS 3 is almost identical in size to my 5D2)

The 67 without a lens is around 4lbs

That wouldn't have anything to do with this, would it? http://www.opwall.com/

Haha!
God no.
I'm going with the University. I study Wildlife Conservation, and I'm going there to research my dissertation on Primate poly-specific associations.
Funnily enough though, we're staying on a boat for a month and some people from Operation Wallacea are joining us for a week.
They're paying through their teeth to be there. We're not.

Oh boy. I only mentioned it because a friend of mine was meant to be going with a friend of hers, who ditched out. Now she doesn't want to go alone to Lima and Peru for a month alone, but it's all paid for. I thought, hey worth a shot. :v:
Anyone recommend a nice film camera to start out with?
I've got a canon ae-1 atm, but i'd prefer a Nikon so I can use the lenses on my D60 aswell.
Just looking for a nice camera, don't really want to pay too much, it'll just be B&W shots, hopefully with a 30mm 1.4 or a 50 1.4
nikon f100
I reckon an FE, FE2 or FM might be more suiting. Manual focus and cheap, small size compared to the autofocus SLR bodies. Good luck getting one on ebay, I set myself a target of £50 and auto bidding fuckheads usually have set it above that.

I didn't mean any offence.
To be honest though, if they have the money for something like that aside, they should go for it.
They'll have a fantastic experience on the trip - regardless of the motives behind it... Even if they're on their own.
Who knows, maybe it'll be at the same time and we'll get to meet up.
Don't let them back out now, just because they'll be by themselves. Sometimes the best experiences of travelling happen when you're on your own. You're FORCED to meet people and go out and socialise. If you don't you'll have a pretty rubbish time (even if you enjoy being on your own - which I do). You learn that pretty quickly.
I wasn't offended? :raise:
[editline]22nd May 2011[/editline]
Also of course I'd let them back out, a 19 year old girl going to a shitty part of the world where rape and trafficking is common, alone? Fuck that.
