Finally, the right thread.
So apparently my grandfather was really into photography way back in the day. So this summer when I go to visit my aunts and uncles I might be getting some of it. Its all 50's era equipment, he even developed his own flim. I don't know what brand he used, but apparently he was really into landscapes so hopefully he has some pimpin wide angles to play around with. I will post pictures of the stuf once I see it.
Minolta XD-7 (broken from when I bought it, but I'm taking it in soon to have it repaired)
-Stock macro lens
Nikon SLR (don't remember the model off the top of my head)
-Stock Macro lens
-Nikkor (I think, I haven't got that camera with me) telephoto lens
Shiny new Canon EOS T3
-stock Macro lens (I bought it yesterday)
I'm carrying the Canon around in a Lowepro top-loading bag I bought at REI.
I had a tripod but a screw popped out when I was using it and simultaneously sinking into some mud, so I've got to get that replaced. I can finally find time to take pictures again after being busy / not allowed to have a camera since September (basic training).
Whenever my boyfriend fiddles with my SLR and tries to use it, it's cute as fuck.
I'm sure it applies to everyone here with a partner who doesn't know how to photography.
Not necessarily the same I suppose but I've had a lot of friends try and dick with my 35mm nikon (as in using the telephoto lens as a telescope sort of shennanigans)
they got a lot of "ahaha no" moments out of it
Stock macro lens?
I don't hear of many cameras having macro's for kit lenses.
Stock macro lens?

The two 35mm cameras were used, I'm just assuming that's what came with them because it's the only lens I was given / had when I got them
the lens that came kit with my T3 says macro on the side so unless I'm terribly misguided
The macro designation on the lenses is just to indicate their minimum focus distance.
The exact type of the lens is on the front barrel, and i reckon the one on your T3 is a 18-55mm (maybe IS II).
The macro designation is on a lot of consumer lenses(most of the time the pro lenses don't have it on them, well at least my L lenses don't have it on 'em), it's just to tell people what distance they can focus from minimally.
Going to pick up a Canon Speedlite 430 EX II tomorrow. Think it will be a very valuable piece of kit for my camerabag, though, right now, I probably don't realize just how important it can be for photography as I haven't used one
Got given an Olympus 35RC by a friend of my mum, tempted to buy a roll of film and a battery to see if it still works.
I've always wanted a lil rangefinder.
I say it's worth a shot.
I like the stupid-proofing thing it has where the shutter won't press down if the exposure isn't right in auto mode.

touché, I'm new to SLRs having used point-and-shoots for so long. Thanks, though
it's an easy mistake. it's just shows you how close it can focus

Rangefinders were made for auto mode.
Just bought a Speedlite but my friend hasn't returned my 7D so I can't use it.
Oh well, I might aswell stroke it a few times
[editline]23rd May 2011[/editline]
mmm oh yeah you like that don't you
I got a Fujifilm Finepix S5200, a cheap but great camera. I also got Canon Canonet from the '60 and an Olympus OM-1MD, and I'm going to buy an adapter between the S5200's lense and the OM-1's lense because it makes a great macro lense substitute
A Olympus 35RC is a worthy camera of using.
The lens is quite good actually, but there is one thing that you should be aware of.
The camera is designed to take 1.3V mercury PX625 batteries, and they are not sold anymore.
The only cells you can now buy are 1.5V, so the metering would be off.
Luckily there are alternatives for the mercury cell; those are called Weincells.
You can easily find them on ebay, and they aren't really expensive.
Also, i have found a site on the 35RC that you might find usefull or informative: http://www.cameraquest.com/olyrc.htm
Happy shooting with it

I don't agree on this to be honest.
Just look at all the leica's and other interchangeable lens rangefinder camera's.
If you meant only the compact camera rangefinder i would say your right, but not all rangefinders were made for auto mode.
Mind you, the leica's and their clones were before the auto mode compact rangefinders

Oh and yeah, i bought a Canon FX yesterday.
That's the first Canon FL breechlock mount camera, with a built in external meter (so not through the lens).
I am very excited to get it, and i already bought some extra lenses on ebay so i will start off with some nice lenses.
The lense that comes with the camera is a FL 50mm 1.8, and i bought a FL 35mm f/2.5 and a FL 200mm f/3.5 on ebay as well (original canon ofcourse).
Come to think of it, the FL lenses are MUCH cheaper than their newer FD competitors, and offer almost the same optical performance.
So if you are looking for some nice lenses on you Micro 4/3 camera or sony nex i would advise getting some FL lenses :)
I will post some pictures of the camera and lenses when i get them (lenses need to come over from the usa, so they will most likely take 2 weeks to get here, the canon fx with it's lens will get here tomorrow)
Look at what I just picked up at the post office:

It was supposed to come with a 50mm 1.7 lens, but it came with a 50mm 2.0 lens, so I'm gonna have to mail the dude and ask wtf is going on...
Assholes :v:
But at least I have it.
[editline]23rd May 2011[/editline]
Also I completely screwed the first roll of film D:
Nice one! I have the exact same camera and it is great :)
50mm f/2 is a fine lens, the f/1.7 is so soft at 1.7 only gets good >2.8

The viewfinder is fucking huge.
i know, 35mm love
i know, 35mm love
But do you ever use it?
Anyway, I thought I'd post pictures since I'm very bored and should be working.
Here's the camera I use.

Not really, I usually use a D90+MB-D80, Sigma 10-20mm, and Giottos MTL 9261B with MH 5001 head.

Not pictured is a Sigma EF-530 DG SUPER, Nikon 50mm f/1.4 D, a random remote, intervalometers, a Nikon bag and stuff. RIP 18-70mm, lost to the land of ebay.
i have a roll of ilford xp2 i use sparingly
To be honest I was seriously disappointed with the 7D viewfinder of my friend. My first SLR is my T70, so I got instantly used to huge viewfinders. So when I saw the 7D, I was thinking 'what the fuck they were thinking?'. But then I saw a micro 4/3. Now the smallness of that blew my mind. Can barely see shit.
My 7D is huge compared to the old 400D I used to use.
And the Pentax ME Super is even huger than that again.
Wait, you have a 7D ánd a Pentax ME Super?
wow ultra bros
[editline]23rd May 2011[/editline]
by the way, I just recieved my paycheck so I am on the verge of ordering the Sigma 30mm f1.4. Anyone have a different suggestion?(Note: I don't really care)
;)
Roll, is that the fixed aperture 10-20 or the variable aperture? How's the sharpness on it?
God I love the manual focus ring on this lens. Soooo smooooth.
-Canon 450D
-430EXII Speedlite
-Sigma 18-200
-Canon 70-300 (The expensive one, not the DO though)
-Canon 50mm II F/1.8
Been keeping an eye on the 7D. But if a predecessor comes out I'm buying it for sure.
I had that sigma 10-20 for a week too before i sold it.
Funny lens, as it also worked on my 1D even on 10mm (man that is ultra wide angle with 13mm).
But Sigma QC sucks (i doubt they even have QC), and you will really need to watch out not getting a bad one.
My advice to everyone buying a sigma lens is THOROUGHLY test it, because chances of getting one with a fault is really high, even higher than with tamron or tokina combined.
Roll, is that the fixed aperture 10-20 or the variable aperture? How's the sharpness on it?
It's a little soft at the far edges wide open, but the rest is great, and stopped down to f/7.1+ it's very sharp all over, and speed isn't a big problem, since it's a landscape lens, you'd use it on a tripod or handheld on a bright day.

Tell me how it focuses, I've heard it's plagued with focus problems, if not, I would have bought one already.
