Sounds great, I won't worry myself about saving for the 8-16 then. [editline]23rd May 2011[/editline]
My advice to everyone buying a sigma lens is THOROUGHLY test it, because chances of getting one with a fault is really high, even higher than with tamron or tokina combined.
I doubt I'd even know how to test it properly. For example I have a Sigma 50-200 and for all intents and purposes it seems fine. How would I know if it has a problem?
I had that sigma 10-20 for a week too before i sold it. Funny lens, as it also worked on my 1D even on 10mm (man that is ultra wide angle with 13mm). But Sigma QC sucks (i doubt they even have QC), and you will really need to watch out not getting a bad one. My advice to everyone buying a sigma lens is THOROUGHLY test it, because chances of getting one with a fault is really high, even higher than with tamron or tokina combined.
Mine works totally fine, love it to bits.

[editline]23rd May 2011[/editline] Something like that anyways. [editline]23rd May 2011[/editline] http://photo.net/learn/focustest/
Dang it, I have the opportunity to buy an 28-70 f2.8L (canon) for 200 dollars, the catch is that you can not zoom with it because it has been dropped. I was thinking about buying it and trying to fix it myself. Do you think it's worth the shot? [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] The autofocus and everything else is working on it, it's apparently stuck at about 60mm though.
A 60mm f/2.8 prime doesn't sound like the best thing IMO, but what to I know :v:
28-70 2.8 is a bit older so if you end up deciding to send it in, they may not have parts for it.
28-70 2.8 is a bit older so if you end up deciding to send it in, they may not have parts for it.
Yes, I'm aware of that, the 28-70 isn't supported, but, for some reason it feels like the problem is simple - just like some mechanical part that came undone as a result of the impact. Of course, it might not be the case.
go for it, it's a good lens
$200 for a chance to win a semi-working $1000 lens. I'd go for it. You never know though, the optics could be bent out of shape as well.
if it's cheap
I'd take the chance and try and fix it.
If not you have a 60mm f/2.8 :v:
That a REAL neat price, i am still hunting for one of those lenses too. At the moment i have a 28-80 f/2.8-4.0L, but i would love to trade it in for a 28-70L lens. But on the other side, fixing the lens could cost you like alot (maybe get another broken lens, and then fix it with those parts?), so i would heavily reconsider doing it or not. EF lenses are not really known that they can be taken apart real easy, so it would require a lot of skill to fix it.
It's a little soft at the far edges wide open, but the rest is great, and stopped down to f/7.1+ it's very sharp all over, and speed isn't a big problem, since it's a landscape lens, you'd use it on a tripod or handheld on a bright day. [editline]23rd May 2011[/editline] Tell me how it focuses, I've heard it's plagued with focus problems, if not, I would have bought one already.
I will. It will be delivered tomorrow so I'll have some time to test it and report back. If it is slighty back or frontfocussing then that won't be a huge problem. My 7D can handle some of that with the micro-adjust. If it is too severe then I will send it back but I hope for the best! I'm getting my 7D back tomorrow from my friend so I can test both my new sigma and speedlite. Feels like getting a new toy as a kid.
50mm f/2 is a fine lens, the f/1.7 is so soft at 1.7 only gets good >2.8 [editline]23rd May 2011[/editline] me so super by codenamecueball, on Flickr we can be me super buddies! Ofcourse not
Ok, just got my Sigma 30mm F1.4 First things first, the focus was a little off. I corrected this with my Canon 7D with the micro-adjust. It was off by just a few points so it wasn't a problem. Second, It's not hugely sharp full open at f1.4, but it's still very useable and I doubt you will notice it if you aren't shooting test-charts at f1.4. It's a very solid lens. Eventhough it's plastic-y, it still feels very nice and has a nice weight to it. It has Full-time manual over-ride so you can change focus even in AF mode. About the focal length: I think it is just perfect for my crop-sensor 7D. The 50mm f1.8 is just too tight but this is really great. I don't think I will take this lens off of my camera a lot. This is just a first impression. So far I think it's a great lens, but then again, haven't done a lot of test-shots. Expect some soon! Oh and the autofocus itself is also pretty good. Not worlds fastest, but still good. It also has some distortion. Not the baddest, but still noticeable with straight lines in corners. Easily fixed in photoshop though.
Also check the lens for focus shifting, some sigma lenses also have that sort of issues (left part of your frame is in focus, the right part not for example). Just reminding u of thoroughly checking it

-snip- Whoops, wrong thread.
frag i can't wait for you to post pictures of your FL lenses, I have a sony nex myself and am dying to see them. Is the mount similar to the FD mount or would I need a new adapter?
Anyone know where the cheapest, yet reliable source to purchase a new Nikon D7000 is? The best price I'm seeing for body only is $1200.00. I don't really want a refurb. I'm halfway there and I've only gotten 4 graduation cards out of the 20 I sent out!
Ofcourse not
I kind of want to shoot you in the face. WITH A 24-70MM!!!

Also people will probably recommend DigitalRev, but good luck not getting fucked on import tax.
I want to shoot you in the face with my ME Super which you don't have!!!! ~own~
Fine! I don't care! My father gave me that k1000, it means more to me than you could imagine! I... I just wanted to fit in. Now I have nothing... Back into reality, I love my k1000. I almost love shooting with it more than my t2i. The one thing I love more is the sound of the shutter, it sounds like sex.
Graduation cards? Also people will probably recommend DigitalRev, but good luck not getting fucked on import tax.
Yeah, I'm graduating high school. People send me money. It's badass.
Yeah, I'm graduating high school. People send me money. It's badass.
What? I've never heard of that. Lucky you.
Graduation cards? Also people will probably recommend DigitalRev, but good luck not getting fucked on import tax.
Their website has tax included. Their eBay auctions with it included clearly state too. Just make sure to buy one of those.

But that's the case with most older cameras. They have a nice thump shutter
