Not that I can remember.
But that doesn't mean he can't talk about gear in the gear thread.

(I get your point though).

No need to be so rude to me though.
ok, I'm sorry for being so direct, but I 100% stand by what I said. Gear is just a tool for capturing photos, to express creativity. If all you do is take photos of your ~super pro ultra f/0.75 special incredible~ lenses, you're missing the point of photography.

He wasn't doing that at all though, he was asking if anyone wanted to buy his spare lens.
For all you know he takes brilliant photos, he just hasn't posted them here.
Lets all be friends though, this discussing thing is useless
the second half of that post was in general, not just directed at frag4life.

This discussion would be a better way of saying it.
It's a legit discussion, you don't have to have a say in it :v:
Well i made my first real photo post in here.
I did upload some pictures i made thursday when we had really sunny weather out here, and i got out with my younger brother to take pictures :)
Please do check them out!
I need a nice lens for next summer (good for something like wedding photos) because basically it is for my sister's wedding. They have quite a low budget (especially because they chose to do this in Italy when they can barely afford that) and I said I wouldn't mind taking the photos to save her some money.
The problem is, to me, is that my lenses are both pretty basic (my stock lens + a 55-200MM F4.5-5.6 AF-S VR DX). I usually don't care too much but this is for my sister's wedding, so I wanted the quality to be as good as I can muster as I don't want to let her down. What sort of lens would you guys go for with something like this? I have plenty of time to save up so price isn't too much of an issue. I just want something that does fairly crisp photos and I will be happy.
I have a Nikon D3000. Anyone got any good suggestions? :h:
If money is not a issue, get a nikon 24-70, hehe.
Kit lens is fine, just practice a lot with it.
Ninjas.
Well, I have used the same two lenses for over a year, so I have had plenty of time with my kit lens. I get most of its limits by now. However this is a gear discussion thread so I wanted to know about what other options I had. This is quite important to me considering it's for my own sister's wedding is all. As for more practise, I work 11 hour days - so time to practise has been reduced a lot whilst I am in this job.
The 24-70 2.8 would work quite well.
On my salary I would need more than a year to save up 1.2k :v: (looking at the nikon one that is on Amazon)
Especially as she is making us pay for our own accommodation in Italy for 10 days.
I agree that the Nikon 24-70 2.8 is the ideal wedding lens, it's a awesome lens, and tacksharp too.
Putting a 24-70 on a D3000 looks kinda funny to me though, it's like putting a Canon speedlite on a compact camera
[editline]5th June 2011[/editline]
But if a 24-70 is too expensive, you could also consider buying something like a Tamron 17-50 2.8 lens.
That lens is also very good, and it's not too expensive for you.
If you need more zoom, maybe look for a Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.0 lens, i've heard those lenses are also quite good.
Both are not expensive, and deliver very good performance/money ratio.
Oh yeah, do look into the fact that the lens WILL need autofocus in the lens as the D3000 does not have a autofocusscrew in it's mount.
Basicly stripes out any real cheap lenses.
Well I am very much stuck with this body unless my employer stops paying us on peanuts for a 44 hour week. :saddowns:
I do love my D3000 though despite it being bottom range.
[editline]5th June 2011[/editline]
Yeah I know about the issue with the auto focus it has sometimes made finding a new lens a pain, which is why I decided to ask here instead for the experience of others.
you fucked up by telling your sister you could manage the wedding photos with two slow lenses and a body uncapable of pulling ISO 800 without looking atrocious.
Your only option is to rent some speedlites and the 24-70
rent a 24-70

I said I might be able to help I never said it was a dead certain thing. Hence why I am asking around now, when the wedding is well over a year away (in fact, 14 months) I can instead switch body rather than lenses if people think that is a better idea. Why have a thread like this when all you're going to do is act like the person is an idiot? I got this body back when I was unemployed and money was tight. It's going to be in Italy, which is sunny as fuck - I don't think I will need an ISO of 800 though. Correct me if I am wrong of course.
In addition to this, my boyfriend's older brother is a photographer and if needs be I am sure he would lend us his equipment. You're assuming a bit too much here I am mostly asking because I want to improve my own kit before borrowing someone else's (as to me, it is much more fun that way.)
Finally, I have a reserve account with more than 3 grand in it. I just prefer not to dip into it unless I have to.
Can anyone recommend any graduated ND filters?

Singh-Ray or Tiffen
omg i love that fisheye.
Have been looking for that quite a lot too.
Where'd you get it and how much?
It's not mine, but they can be found on ebay between $200 and $500 depending on the condition.
Oh okay.
It's a great lens though, same goes for the 7.5mm FD circular fisheye.
Too bad they're so expensive and scarce around here :(

It's just Un-Men, he thinks he is better than everyone in this section :v:. Get a Tamron or Sigma 17-50 2.8 if you can't afford the 24-70. You will probably also need a speedlite unless the wedding is directly in the sun (which is unlikely).

There is a chance it could be outdoors from what I have heard but more likely to be indoors. I have wanted a flash gun for a while so it is already on my want list. Thanks for the useful suggestions.
