Frame grab from a RED EPIC M digital cinema camera at 96FPS. f/2.9 - 1/200 - 800 ISO Big version: http://blog.vincentlaforet.com/wp-content/uploads/CloseupFinal.jpg http://blog.vincentlaforet.com/2011/06/07/what-camera-did-i-use-to-make-this-still-picture/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wordpress%2FjvaG+%28Vincent+Laforet%27s+Blog%29
Now that you mention RED, I've used their cameras. They are awesome!
Saw that before. Fucking 5K resolution. Laforet is god. [editline]10th June 2011[/editline]
What bag is that? I see it all the time.
Tamrac
Saw that before. Fucking 5K resolution. Laforet is god.
The ISO performance is amazing.
So I've decided that Nikon's ViewNX2 software is officially god-awful primarily because it's so damned slow, and while it's decent for quick edits it lacks any control in anything more refined. Does anyone have some suggestions for some affordable editing software that will actually give decently quick feedback and have proper controls for things like curves, recovery, fill light, individual color saturation etc.? Also it has to work with the D3100's NEF codec, which is slightly newer than others and apparently doesn't get along well with a lot of programs?
It's pretty fast for me.
i got one of these from goodwill for $4 http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/showimage.aspx?gid=1376425&image=408184352&images=408184352,408184420,408184502,408184580,408184651,408184733,408184801&formats=0,0,0,0,0,0,0&format=0 I am using the lens with a reverse mounter, and I've been getting some pretty crazy macro shots. The aperture is controller through the camera, but I found the control and stuck a piece of plastic there so I could shoot with the aperture fully open. Gives terrible DoF but I'd rather have that then use iso excess of 6400 (i have to use 1600 in my fully lit room!). I need to shoot at 1/100 because it is that finicky. But here's a picture of a lego I shot then here's an action figure that I took a picture of to show the shallow DoF and here's a picture of it next to a GBA game for scale
Also, you can just hold down the aperture preview button when screwing off the lens.
It's pretty fast for me.
What software do you use? I'm looking at Lighroom right now: can I get that without buying Photoshop CS5 and will it work with the D3100's NEF codec? Because my Photoshop Elements 7 doesn't :frown: (Not that I'd like using that for normal processing anyway)
I got the Canon AE-1 today. It came with a panagor 80-200 and a Canon 50mm f1.8 It is in pretty good shape though the batterylock has been broken somewhat. I also believe the 50mm has a broken aperture mechanism. The aperture blades don't open up a lot, eventhough I turned it to f1.8 but whatever.

That should show the aperture moving.

the other option is to flick on the depth of field preview switch on the front, if you're looking at the front of the camera, it's just to the right of the lens. when that is engaged twisting the aperture rung should a) make the viewfinder lighter/darker ab=nd b) show the aperture blades moving. if you try that and it doesn't work you're either doing it wrong somehow or your lens is fucked :(
Doesn't work :( Ah well, I didn't even expected to get that lens as the ad said only the camera and the panagor lens were included.
As of right now this is my current camera :v: I'm so lame :smith: But i'm saving up for an SLR, not sure what brand to buy yet.
Going with Canon or Nikon is usually the best path.
The Pentax K-5 is also a very interesting DSLR to look at, but it's quite expensive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentax_K-5 [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] And don't dismiss it just because it's called Pentax.
I'd agree if there was the same wide array of lenses as the big two. Get it if you want to drag it across rocks, torture it in heavy rain or take it to -50C in the arctic. It would survive what even a D3s or 1Ds III couldn't.
pentax are great value
I like the Nikon D90, my friend let me use it and I like taking photos with it. Though it's really expensive. :signings:
Someone explain to me how I can make those light drawings in the air. Need a DSLR or something? Slower shutter speed? What should I get?
Someone explain to me how I can make those light drawings in the air. Need a DSLR or something? Slower shutter speed? Ok I found a film camera for right now. It was in my attic. :psyduck: It's a Canon eos Rebel X from 93-96 All I need is some film and a battery.
There is a weird level to the lower right of the camera (lens facing you), and you have to flip the tab up and push it in, and that will let you use aperture yourself.
That's the depth of field preview switch that I described.
Took the same picture, but one with my 50mm and the other with my 18-200mm. Both the same settings yet they came out differently? Any ideas?
Anyone else know why?
