also i want this lens soooooooooo badly

if only it had autofocus :O
I have a Nikon D80 with some nice 20-something year old Sigma lenses from my mom's old camera. I really don't know much about the technical side of things as far as the actual lenses go, but I'd like some new lenses that capture light better. Everything comes out mega dark despite me knowing what settings I should be using. Taking pictures indoors is hardly possible unless I'm on an insane ISO.
Any suggestions for some decent lenses? I need something that lets in enough light for making usable textures.
Also the lenses focus from too far away to do good close-ups. So preferably something that'll focus fairly close to the subject.
the sigmas are gonna be shite

get yourself a 30mm f/1.4 for the F mount

Would be better off with a 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 if he wants to get closer as they both focus at the same distance.

?
Looks like everything I want. Should I not buy from that site? The rating on Google was good. Any other equipment I should get? Specifically any equipment suggestions for photosource textures.

This, it's super crispy and sharp, even wide open.
Thanks! I'll see about purchasing soon!

no you will die
I didn't know that the Nikon F90 was a weapon of mass destruction
I didn't know that the Nikon F90 was a weapon of mass destruction

A weapon of mass destruction (WMD) is a weapon that can kill and bring significant harm to a large number of humans
So you're saying that something that kills you is classified as a WMD, meaning your mass is equivalent to that of a large number of humans. I guess that's interesting.
well it is a Nikon.
well it is a Nikon.
I'm not seeing your point, let's not start a brand war.
Nikon are highly dangerous weapons of mass destruction, I mean, all the AF-E and other switches argh so confusing it must be a bomb
[editline]7th July 2011[/editline]
oh wait, no it's just a camera. it takes photos onto film. you'd get exactly the same photo from a canon or a minolta.
I'm not seeing your point, let's not start a brand war.
As much as he can be a douche, he does that whole 'canon master race' thing satirically. It's sarcasm.

It's not funny though, it's just annoying and starts arguments.
holy SHIT you guys can be such goddamn fannies at times
So, I finally decided to take my camera off the shelf and start photographing, bought myself a new 200mm lens while I was at it.
Its a Sony A290, Is it any good?
[editline]Wat[/editline]
I'd take a picture of it, but that'd be kinda hard wouldn't it.
So here's some picture from some random site

[editline]Again[/editline]
Think I'll do like the OP and post pretty much all of my "Equipment".
Sony DSLR-A290 Camera.
18-55mm lens
55-200mm lens
16gb SD card,
4gb and 1gb reserve cards.
A camera bag enough to fit it all in.
Sony are terrible IMO, switch to Nikon, Canon or Pentax once you start considering buying new lenses.

It's a DSLR. It's not gonna be load of shit. It's gonna take better pictures than your phone or point-and-shoot. I take it you still have the kit lens on it? The 35mm f/1.8 is a great fast prime for your a290. Lets you expirment with DoF, shoot in darker conditions etc.
[editline]7th July 2011[/editline]
In short, with the right glass, you will take some excellent photos
[editline]7th July 2011[/editline]
but you can still take excellent photos with the 18-55
I got it for my birthday around a year ago, they didnt want to buy a too expensive camera until I get a good interest for it.
Once I learn enough and hit the peak of the camera, I will probably buy a new one.
I took some "neat" photo's during a flight, but my SD card reader isn't cooperating right now.

Geez I didn't say they can't take a good photo.
Their high end and mid end bodies lack the features that similarly priced competitors such as Canon and Nikon offer, e.g good video and audio recording, good custom firmware, etc.
Are you on your period or something, you are criticizing every post I make.

That other thread got out of hand and became a flame war between cueball and everyone else, this one you are making sweeping generalisations that rule out cameras that as I have shown have incredible potential. any $500 - $1000 DSLR body from any manufacturer will easily do everything that any person on this forum need for the foreseeable future. If I saw a Sony DSLR going super cheap, I would consider it.
Posted some images I took with the Sony camera on the Creative Photography Thread, hopefully I can improve.
How do older Canon AE-1s perform? I can get one in good shape with all the accesories for about $120.
