The filter doesn't give me any vignetting and any filter will give you a little bit of image degradation no matter how much you pay for it Richie Rich. I'm happy with what I have and I don't need anything more.
Just trying to state my opinion, there's honestly no need to call someone "Richie rich" Just trying to help someone out. But alright man, if it's fine with you, it's fine with me.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the inventor of the digital camera.

So I got all of my grandfathers old photo equipment. I got bunch of accessories along with all of the cameras like flashguns, filters, and triggers.

A few camera's are missing from the photo but it's all pretty much here.
I would get rid of that crappy filter, and then get yourself a Slim B+W filter. Or a Kenko / Hoya one. You're most likely going to vignette with that filter, and most likely degrade the picture quality.
+1 for Calumet photo. I would also like to add B&H photo as a another shop you could consider. I bought alot of the small stuff ( filters, tripods etc ) at my local Calumet back when they had like the 500$ 100$ off deals. And for B&H photo, after you've done your research, always call them up. They saved me nearly 1000$ with my gear.
Now to list my gear:
Canon 5D mark II ( walk around camera now )
Canon 7D with Battery Grip ( lost the battery cover :( )
Primes: Sigma 50 1.4, Canon 85 1.8 ( super sharp at 2.8 ), and then Canon 100 f/2.8 L IS Macro
Wide-angle: Canon 16-35 f/2.8 L II ( my walk around lens for the summer )
Zooms: Canon 24-105 f/4 L IS, Canon 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 ( retired, and my first lens ), Canon 70-200 f/4 L IS
Two 580 EX II's, and a few extra batteries.
Funny how you boast about all your expensive gear but never posted any of your pictures.

I didn't like his first posts either but he did post some pictures:

I'm having cold feet about getting a DSLR - how do I know that I like photography enough to justify a £450 camera?

Shoot film for 2-3 months.
Shoot film for 2-3 months.
That's a good idea, 5 rolls of film just arrived today, but I'm pretty certain I wanna get into film making, and getting a camcorder now would be good because I have the whole of the summer to do it in without school or anything, but if I go and get a DSLR in 3 months, then it'll just replace the camcorder which would be a massive waste of money :(

You could just wait it out. How can you be so sure you wan't to do film making either? Photography and film making go hand in hand, so if you don't like photography you won't like film making. Same goes for your photographic skill in relation to cinematic skill.

Hmm I suppose. Thanks :)

Also, the mirror on my Pentax ME Super seems to be stuck down. The film advance lever goes about 3/4 of the way but then suddenly stops, so the shutter isn't working either. The little lever that controls the mirror doesn't seem to have any effect on the mirror, the mirror just defaults down.
why is this?
Thanks
After a long old time of saving and research, I've finally ordered a Nikon D3100. It's my first ever DSLR and I can't wait to get started. I'll be headed to a bunch of car shows in the summer with it.
Anybody else on here use the D3100?

Awesome choice, it'll serve you well.

I use it. I love it. Hopefully, you will, too
Check out this thread, it's rapidly growing with useful little tips, including a post I made with a few specific to the D3100.
Sweet! Looks like I made the right choice then! I was VERY close to getting a 1000D, but decided to spend that little extra on the D3100.
Thanks for the link Skyhawk, that's my night's reading sorted!
Nikon has a pretty good system. The only thing you have to be careful about is that, if you want autofocus on the D3100, any lens you buy has to be marked "AF-S", which means that the motor controlling the autofocus is inside the lens. If it's just marked "AF", it'll work, but it won't autofocus because it would require a focus motor in the camera. Anything else you'd have to look up the compatibility for.
Truthfully, Nikon and Canon are so competitive that the only real determining factor influencing which you should buy is feel and handling. Hopefully, once you receive yours, you'll find you are indeed a Nikon guy.
my girlfriend uses my AF 50mm 1.8D all the time on her 3100, and I used an ollld 50mm 1.8 E on my D5000; manually focusing with a non AF-S isn't really much of an issue if you understand the inside of your viewfinder.

*ignore the red circle
at the bottom left you'll see, depending on your focus, a ►, •, or ◄ marking if you're holding your shutter button half down (like you would to autofocus). Depending on the marking, just rotate your focus and it will judge, based on where your focus bracket (the focusing target that's usually in the center) is looking. If you're on the circle, you're in focus!
I assume this also applies with Canon, but I also know canon tends to make various mounts for the lenses so I don't know if there's a deeper incompatability with cheaper non lens-body focus lenses.

Don't think so, in my 60D when manual focusing the only indication you're focused is the focus bracket flashing.
Also, I don't think Canon does the whole "you can't have auto-focus with this lens and this body". Unless it's a decades old lens/body.
Bought my first good camera today so...
Canon 600D
Kit lens
That's pretty much it.

with nikon lenses, you've got a good handful of nice lenses that cost less than their AF-S counterparts, and perform just as well (I'm actually surprised the AFS is down in price, good deal now).
They require a camera body focusing screw (which is located on the bracket), which reduces their size and weight for better mobility. It's just that the screw is missing on the cheaper cameras, D5100 and down. With how much you save buying the cheap camera, I'd assume getting the AF-S lens won't be much of a bother compared to buying a D7000 or up just to save a little on a cheaper lens.
Also, I know there's a good deal of D7000 users here who almost never take off their 50mm1.8D, which is focus screw only. highfives

High five for 600D
My 50mm f/1.4 AF-D rarely comes off my D90, I use it for personal photos.
i keep my Canon FD 50mm f1.8 on my Sony like all the time, a more compact and autofocusing lens would be extremely welcome though.

Any people rocking a Tokina 11-16 or Tamron 10-24?
I've been trying to read a few reviews, and for some reason I never agree with the conclusion the reviewer comes to based on the sample shots. In one review it was the Tamron against the sigma 10-20 f4, and the Tamron appeared to have it consistently beat in all but some corner/border crops. And yet apparently the Sigma was better?
I just don't know anymore.
I just found a 1976 Fujica ST605 in the garage. Probably worthless, but I'd love to have a go with film. It's the romance of it all.
I'm thinking about order a 0.9 Neutral Density Filter to do some photos of the ocean nearby at dusk to get that misty water effect. Anyone think it'd be worth it?
I think I've decided on the D3100 for my first proper camera! Are there any reasons why I shouldn't get it?
