the d90 also has a slower flash sync.
Just ordered a D3100 on Amazon! am now bankrupt
I know that feel, bro (well, not with the D3100, I got mine in-store) but I do know that feel. But it is a good feel.
hahaa yeah, I hope I made the right decision
Don't worry the buyers remorse fades after about the 100th shutter cycle. You'll have great fun with that camera.
My uncle upgraded his camera, and sent us his old Rebel xT. Smells heavily of smoke and always comes out with a cloudy image, I hope it isn't on the sensor. :I
my uncle actually flew in today as well (some shipping timing, heh). So the xT (350D) and 18-55 kit is what showed up in the mail. Nothing spectacular in the least, but interesting. However he also came in with a backpack on, which contained the replacement and a new toy attached to it. a 60D with a Sigma 120-400 f4.5-5.6 He asked about my camera and I had to pull it out with my 50 1.8D attached to it, felt silly
knowing how weirdly DSLRs age, I've been wondering. Has the Nikon D70s held up? with the d90 being about the level I want in a DSLR, how do the downgrades factor into that? especially when I can find the D70s for $230.
I've got a D70s and I've had it for years. It still takes great pictures, although the ~6mp means you can't do some extreme cropping and any ISO above about 800 is significantly noisy. The buffer isn't amazing compared to some higher end modern DSLR's but you can shoot 3 or so RAW's before it fills up. It's not so much of a problem with JPG's. Apart from that, I love it. You can use the inbuilt flash as a commander for wireless SB flashes like with more modern SLR's, but I don't think you can set different groups (although I'm guessing if you're looking at buying a D70s you're not going to be looking to buy half a dozen SB-900's on top of that :v:) It also has the added bonus of a maximum 1/8000 shutter speed which I think has only just been reintroduced to the semi-pro/high end budget range in the D7000, but don't quote me on that. Most DSLR's are built to last, but the ruggedness of the D70s is really astounding. I can't think of any other piece of electronics I own that would still be working flawlessly after what my camera has been through. Here's some uninteresting shots straight off the camera without any editing: http://i.cubeupload.com/lTLUh7.jpg http://i.cubeupload.com/g8gRTh.jpg http://i.cubeupload.com/YBfUhU.jpg http://i.cubeupload.com/ztt9MH.jpg http://i.cubeupload.com/Kb2VWv.jpg
found an old pentax camera with a big ass lens on it in my moms closet. I dont know much about old film cameras, so is it any good? No love for D80? Oh good find for something just in the closet. Still have a few weeks till I get my hands on a canon film camera.
the D80 would be double the price used (which is still only $400). the upgrades (aside the 4 megapixels & brighter LCD&OVF) aren't worth $200 less glass. oh, and my grandma had a 500mm f4.5 prime (I think.) to go with the K1000. I took the camera with a 50 f2, but I let her keep that.
the d80 is a significant upgrade from the d70. The d80 is still an extremely good dslr, it's easily better than most of the lower end dslrs of today.
the whole upside to having the D70s, for me, would be to have a DSLR kit for less than $400. [U] Nikon D70s w/ [N] 50mm 1.8G = $454 [U] Nikon D80 w/ [U] 50mm 1.8D = $504 Yes, they both take me over my ideal price. No, the difference isn't that big. But if I plan on ever taking that kit somewhere else, I'd rather have the G. Especially because that somewhere else would probably be the 5100, and the D lens wouldn't even work. But this was all a hypothetical thing, really. While it would be great to have a DSLR, film is all I need at the moment.
So I found undeveloped 8mm film and 620 film in two of the cameras that i received. Both have been exposed but I have no clue where to get them developed.

Does anyone know of any firmware hacking for the D3100? I've heard people have done wonders with hacking the 5D Mark ii to get amazing video stuff, as well as the 550D
I know canon has 'magic lantern', but I'm not sure if anything on the nikon side exists.
Yeah I heard of that too but it doesn't look like there's anything for the D3100 apart from a Nikon firmware upgrade which does a lot of minor stuff

Checked for any hacks for my D80 and came up empty, i'm guessing it would be the same with you. Maybe the Nikon firmware is harder to reverse engineer.
Oh God the 430EX went down to $260 on Amazon, it's taunting me to buy it but I'm still skeptical as to how useful it will be for me.
Oh God the 430EX went down to $260 on Amazon, it's taunting me to buy it but I'm still skeptical as to how useful it will be for me.
I bought it 2 days ago, still waiting on it. I would say the bouncing of light will make a huge change to lighting in your photos.
I'm on the verge of ordering a Sigma 10-20, probably through amazon (my local store has it for £90 more) and I'm wondering how easy it is to get things replaced via amazon if I get a bad sample?
If it's directly through Amazon it should be fairly easy. I've never had the misfortune to require it, but I hear Amazon has great customer support.
Turns out the one through amazon is only £20 less than the local store, doh. [editline]7th August 2011[/editline] I'll just try and persuade the guy to throw in a free filter. :v:
Have you considered the Tokina 11-16 f2.8?
Yeah but it's too expensive.
Okkk
Well, £110 more on Amazon but eh...
I'm tempted to buy a 135mm f2.8 Makinon lens for my Olympus OM-1N for $30. Should I do it?
yes
