I like a tiny bit of light leakage in photos though. But not an excessive amount. I don't like how lomo stuff is way overpriced though. I think I'll just go hunting for a dollar store toy camera or something and go from there.
antique shops/thrift stores usually have old cameras for really cheap
Gah my 430ex II is going to be here any day! I'm so excited to play around with it.
Does the 430EX II need the pop-up flash to fire?
looks like my iso 3200 or even 1600
I thought this might be interresting and took some comparison shots with mine.. what camera have you got? [thumb]http://img.luastoned.com/iso_comparison.jpg[/thumb] Sorry for the somewhat larger pic but you would not be able to tell the difference otherwise.
A holgo is only shit if used that way, if you tape it up, get the glass lens version, etc, etc then you should be able to pull out some nice (albeit soft) photos thanks to the superfuckingawesome 6x6
He would be better off getting something else that doesn't need mods to look ok then.
Does the 430EX II need the pop-up flash to fire?
uhh, no. The the 430 EXII is placed on top of the horse-shoe mount just above the pop-up flash, so it won't be able to deploy. I've had it for 1½ weeks so far, and it is exceding my expectations of it. I also just got my first light tripod today, which is super fantastic :D
Does the 430EX II need the pop-up flash to fire?
Nope, it disables the popup flash and completely utilizes the 430ex to decide the flash's power and such. It's much more effective than the standard popup.
Sorry, I meant to say when off-camera.
Only works with the 7D and upward, the higher number models after that does not have the built-in function to fire the flash when it's off the camera. The 430EXII is a slave flash, so you need a master (say the 580EXII) to fire both at the same time. Or you may just buy the official or third-party wireless flash firing thingies i can't remember the name of.
So you're saying the 60D/7D can fire the 430EX II off camera without a master firing?
The T3i can fire without a master. Sadly the T3 got screwed out of the feature so I need to get a wireless trigger system if I want to fire off the camera. (I think I'm gonna get the Cowboy Studios Wireless Trigger) But I am thoroughly happy with the 430ex II, I just got it today and I've been having a great time playing with it.
So you're saying the 60D/7D can fire the 430EX II off camera without a master firing?
Yes the 60D can fire the 430EX II off camera without a master, but it does use the popup flash and it does affect the photo even if you set it up to pre-fire.
damnit I had to pay £200 out of the D3100 I got for my birthday and you kids get whole 550Ds :v:
Uhh, I've spent about £500 on my 1000d, film camera's, lenses, film dev equipment with money I earned myself so be quiet. I doubt my parents would even buy me a 550d actually.

I love it, but if we're here to complain about parents not spending money on things... my mum didn't even buy it. it's a double hand-me-down. boohoo.
Here comes the who-has-it-harder contest.
I payed for all of my photo equipment so far Except I might get a lens for my birthday in 5 days
Guy don't feel bad about having to pay for your gear... I had to sell something REALLY close to my heart to afford my T2i. Really close :( I miss it like crazy.
I'm using a Canon EOS 550D with either the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II or the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III lens.
i had to buy my own canon ae-1 came with a 50mm f1.8 FD lens shit set me back $11. i have it rough
I bought my EF-S 55-250mm, 430ex II, Filters, Tripod, and various other equipment and accessories. My dad got me the body, but I'm currently saving for a 5D MK II, I'm hoping once my stuff gets here and I'm settled in my new house I can start selling stock photos.
I got my D3100 for about $360, $100 of which my dad paid for as a birthday gift, the rest was my own saving. I think I posted the story before, but basically what happened was we walked into Sam's Club one day, and they had a D3100 on clearance. Turned out it was a return from someone who had never used it (opened the box, thought "WOAH WAY TOO MUCH CAMERA CANNOT HANDLE.") Whoever marked it thought it was missing cables too, even though it wasn't, so it was marked all the way down from $600 to $360, even though it was virtually new and had everything in the box working perfectly. My 55-300 lens and my SB-400 flash on the other hand, my mom bought for me, because she's batshit insane and thinks that a child's 16th birthday party is something super special and lods of emone needs to be spent. I feel kind of bad about it because she doesn't have a lot of cash, but she insisted since she spent so much on my brother. There's actually a bit of leftover cash, but I'm trying to be responsible and save it, and learn to work with and appreciate what I have, instead of blowing it on more stuff.
