I was scouting and just had some fun with it. :v:
[editline]august 17[/editline]
That's half a bar of Irish Spring on a dowel rod I noticed in the middle of a remote field, no idea what it's for.
[editline]august 17[/editline]
Further research concludes it's makeshift deer repellant. /pui.
My tripod arrived today! here it is:
[url]http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0000WXD16/[/url]
For 15 quid, it's actually amazing. It's really sturdy and it's full size, and the head tilts every way. It's not a ball head so it's much more controlled, and it packs down to about 40cm to fit into the carry bag which it comes with!
Now I just need the sky to clear to get the final shot for the intro to my film

Nice, I got that exact same tripod! Had it for atleast a year now and it's still working fine. :)

Incredible.
I love finding seemingly nonsensical things in the middle of nowhere. Once I tripped over a fire hydrant in the middle of a huge wetland field, it seemed to be fed into the ground, but there wasn't sign of roads anywhere near it. I'd think with a new-ish hydrant, there'd at least be some left over crumbles of concrete, not soft ground.

I've had that for a year now, thinking of upgrading to something sturdier.
My current set up is a Zenit 11 film SLR with 3 lenses: Helios-44M-4, Helios 135mm, and what seems to me like overkill a Photax Paragon 500mm. And a Helios 220 Flashgun
Just ordered the 50mm 1.8G, expecting it in about five days. I can't wait :v:

And I just ordered the canon 50 mm 1.8 lens. Can't wait. Wanted the 1.4, but the price just went up, so I thought I might just learn how to use a 50 mm by using the inexpensive one.
1.8 and 1.4 is a pretty minimal difference. I'd say the only people who need the 1.4 are probably pros who have the money and need for the absolute best gear.

First of all, 1.4 is 2/3 stop brighter than 1.8, and secondly the 50 1.4 is hardly 'the absolute best' - think 50 1.2 etc.
I have had both, and I have to say the 1.4 is worth every extra penny over the 1.8, but that's not saying the 1.8 is still an amazing deal for around $100.

How is the difference in sharpness?

Ah, I'm misinformed. Ought to keep my mouth shut when I don't know what I'm talking about.

I see. Thanks for the link :)
My battery grip arrived the other day.
I now have a way to fend off camera thieves - with a concussion.
What's the deal with Leica's f0.95 noctilux? Is it really worth £7k?
If you have a Leica, and you want a 50mm... you're probably not looking for an f1.8. It's kind of like asking if a new Hasselblad accessory is worth the upgrade. When you're spending the money, you want the best. If I was ever going to spend as much on a lens as I did on the body, though, it would definitely be on a 50mm.
Just a quick question I'm looking for a cheap but decent tripod, Anyone have any suggestions?

Hama Star 62 (or star 63 or 61 which seem to be identical)
15 quid on amazon, mine arrived 2 days ago I think, it's absolutely fantastic - really sturdy folds down really small but it's actually full size, has a nice head

that new FE and the lenses that came with it are mingling quite nicely with my active film collection
Left to right:
500mm f/8 "stalker lens"
80-200mm f/4.5 macro zoom (came with black FE)
Original style 50mm 1.8 (came with black FE). bad condition; focal ring is sticky at extremes, there's gold or brass looking metal dust inside on the glass.
28mm 2.8 (came with black FE)
Sun Blitz 100 flash (came with black FE)
Black Nikon FE, compact 50mm 1.8 (came with original FE manual and "the Nikon Way to Photography" handbook, see shelf)
Silver FE- inherited from my mom with super-compact 50mm 1.8E
Ricoh TLR (I've already posted about it)
Bell & Howell Magazine 8mm, "Optronic Eye" -grandparent's, it works fine (even does slowmo filming and auto zoom/focus) but I obviously don't have 8mm film nor the projector to work it. Found a projector screen from the 50's in my basement today though, I assume it was part of that setup. Feels cool looking at it and thinking about what it's been through.
and my TF2-esque stack of sixpence hats
liking this little shelving unit I just got, it really makes my new apartment seem more like I'm living here
my grandparents also apparently had, of all things, the Polaroid land camera I recently picked up.

they took a picture of Marilyn Monroe off of their TV, oddly interesting.

Wow, that's retro. Really cool.
Well, shit. Seems like the built in flash on my D70s is failing. If I set it to fire, it'll only do so every 5th shot or so, and when it does fire it'll completely white out the shot or underexpose it.
The problem is I use the inbuilt flash all the time in commander mode for my SB-600. If I shoot in commander mode, it again it'll only fire every few shots and most of the time doesn't look like it's going through the full sequence. Even when it does strobe and is picked up by my flashgun, it beeps like crazy meaning there's a communication error.
It's been the only DSLR I've ever owned. This might be the first sign of many it's finally time to think about upgrading :( Hopefully it wont cost too much to repair though. I'll search around and see if it's a common problem. Might be a DIY job, it is several years out of warranty :v:
if you need, I'd suggest ordering a cheap set of wireless syncs. I've been using my new [url=http://www.cowboystudio.com/product/c14/p140704-04.php]Cowboy Studio NPT-04[/url] set like mad, even when I'd probably just use the commander mode. You have to set your sb600 manually, but that at least provides the same result instead of fluctuating when you're shooting the same shot over and over.
Yeah, I've been meaning to get some wireless triggers. Amazon sells those NPT-04's in the UK for the about the same price so I'll definitely look into that. Commander mode was just so convenient if you're out and about and want to pop the flash off the hotshoe and move it to the side or something. Oh well.
I've been in two minds over a D7000 body, (which I've been drooling over ever since it was announced) which I've found for £420 (less than $700). It's apparently unopened and with a warranty but it just sounds too good to be true...
back of the truck deal. Be careful with that one, I'd rather buy legit from a store than feed money to someone who lightened someone else's shipment.

A £600 saving is definitely too good to be true.

What I thought. His story is that his 'friend who owned a photography store moved to set up shop elsewhere and he got the left over stock cheap.' Very cliché :v:
[editline]19th August 2011[/editline]
Also the deal was posted before the UK riots/looting. So at least that explanation's ruled out!
My parents are saying they might buy me a (used) Sigma 30mm f/1.4 after doing well in my exams etc.
Fuck yeah now I can finally have a lens that isn't a piece of shit for digital :v:
