Oh man I am torn between getting the 50mm canon lens or the 30mm sigma...
HELP!
1.8 or 1.4 50mm
1.8 or 1.4 50mm
1.4
50 if you like portraits or a little distance, 30 if you like a walkin' around awesome lens (that can also do portraits)

I am thinking I will get the 30mm, I have heard awesome things about it. And technically it is a 50 on my camera.
I need to find where the hell the battery compartment is and how to open it on my Rokinon 4700 flash!!!!!!!

I found a place you can buy an instruction manual for $15, but not much else, not even a picture. I suggest hitting it many times with a wrench until old batteries or equally old candy pops out

Yeah, I saw that.
I feel like this is where it should open, it's only on this side but it wont budge!

yeah, that's your battery door. Should slide off to the left from this view, revealing the tops of your batteries via this AMAZING MOUSE DRAWN DEPICTION

keep prying at it, maybe get a screwdriver and stick it into the edge on the right od the door so it pushes the whole thing. I'm kinda willing to bet it's stuck because of battery acid leakage, if there is a bunch of that the fix is to: not touch it with your fingers, use a Q-tip to apply vinegar to the acid so it burns away into water and salt.
do not attempt to harvest and eat salt.

eww eww eww. Like Dai said, don't touch that stuff.
too late, been touching it quite a bit. I can't get two of the batteries out. He said he's never changed the batteries and he got the camera in 1996.....:eng101:

Oh man, a little bit of vegemite on there and you have yourself a cuisine meal.
Vinegar you said? Can I use that to get these damn batteries out?
Vinegar you said? Can I use that to get these damn batteries out?
I would soak the end of a q tip with vinegar and just slowly eat it away till most of it is gone then with a pair of pliers try and pry the batteries out if they are stuck. Then clean away any more acid that is leftover.
I'll try it tomorrow morning, thanks!
wash your hands with hot water, make sure the water is running hard and fast. moisture activates the acid, which is terrible if you touch your eyes or even handle your food before eating.
chip the big stuff away with a coin or screwdriver or something, then use vinegar to melt away the acid buildup. It will hiss and bubble, that's a normal reaction. Just be careful not to let any of the runoff go into the flash's innards, just hold it above a sink so it lands somewhere manageable.
KODAK EasyShare Z981 Digital Camera
Yeah I know its nothing fancy by some peoples standards but its 14MP and has a pretty damn good zoom in my opinion so yeah
megapixels don't matter
I just learned something pretty nifty with my camera. I was getting really annoyed when taking video my camera, even in manual exposure it would adjust the aperture itself if I zoomed in or out. I found a tip to stop it from doing that.
You just tape off a small contact on the lens itself that receives the signal from the camera. It bypasses the camera's ability to adjust the aperture so it is always wide open.

It doesn't let you take pictures but it gets rid of that small annoyance.
I made a small video clip to show the difference.

Is the problem the lens going from f/3.5 to f/5.6?
Used the Sigma 10-20 today, totally loved it.
Also used the 30mm 1.4, didn't find it as great as I expected. Although it's a great lens I think I'd do a lot more with a 10-20

I also had a Sigma 10-20 in my possession for a week.
Funny thing about that lens is that it is usable on the 1D too.
But i didn't like the lens at all in terms of sharpness. The lens had some backfocus issues and it wasnt sharp all over. The right side was sharper than the left side of the picture...
I despise Sigma for their shitty Quality checking, and my 10-20 was a good example of it.
Good thing i could sell it for a good price.
that's a KAC KR1, conventional, 24V DC, total bitch to wire

Now the picture just gets darker and the camera doesn't adjust the exposure to compensate. You need a fixed aperture zoom to fix this problem, or stop down to the minimum aperture when it's fully zoomed in.
welp, used some vinegar and got most if not all the acid off the connections. Unfortunately, one of them looks pretty bad and may be fried. I really wanted to use it too :'(

if you're any good with soldering you can 'tin' the connections so there's a nice fresh layer of metal for the contacts.

Well I do have a soldering iron. Maybe I'll try that out. What's the harm?
What's the harm?
getting molten solder all over your fingers
:v:
look up a youtube tutorial, it's not hard. probably gotta take stuff apart if there's erosion on the other side of the contacts, which may be problematic. Good luck, hopefully it's just a surface issue.
