Thought you guys might be interested. Look what me and my dad dug up today: An original Zenit TTL 1980 Moscow Olympics edition with 3 lenses: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/9PQEB.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/oN7sV.jpg[/img_thumb] And an old Canon EOS Rebel XS from 1994 which isn't as interesting, but still neat: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/LuLsA.jpg[/img_thumb] Taken with my Nikon D80.
Oh man we're D80 bros. High-five
There was a full moon ecipse last night and I finally got the chance to test my 800-1200. I missed the total eclipse though. But its worth it for a $120 lens.
I remembered that my grandfather owned a pawn shop back in the 80s-90s and I decided to ask him if he still has some old lenses. Let's just say I know what I want for Christmas.

What do people think of the Pentax K-r as I think it looks rather nice for the price of it. Also if you can could you tell me the crop factor.
pentax k-r is a great camera the crop factor will mean that you take your lens length, multiply it by 1.5, and that is approximately the field of view you would have on a 35mm camera.

So now to see what money I end up with for christmas
pentax have incredible build quality, definitely something the beat out every other manufacturer in.
edit: Wrong thread.
Could anyone recommend me a reasonably stable cheap tripod?

not sure if this may be what you're looking for http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-Star-Tripod-free-Carry/dp/B0000WXD16/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1324086839&sr=1-1 could it be terrible? would it hold a DSLR?

Unfortunately... :(
Bought a 50mm f1.4 prime for my 550d. Will there be a worthwhile increase in low light performance between the 50mm/1.4 and my kit 18-55mm/3.2 ? Otherwise all I need now is a decent tripod and a shotgun mic but those two are low priority. Edit: FYI specifically it's a FD 50mm but it comes with a converter for EF so it's completely manual but hopefully that will thrust me into learning how to manually focus better since I rely way too much on auto just now.
A 1.4 aperture compared to a 3.2 aperture is pretty huge. You'll get much better low light performance.
it's going to be hard to manual focus, and the glass adapter will probably make the lens not very sharp unfortunately.
oh yeah my hama tripod broke i slipped on some ice and the ball head broke off
I've lost the head to my Slik tripod my grandparents bought me :( I went to the camera shop, but they didn't have a replacement; I might have to buy another online, but I'm not sure what size it is. Oh, by the way dude, I can only find one of my Trip 35's... I think my parents might have taken my other one back to Australia. Sorry dude.
Can't wait for the 25th! My mother has my D40 but I haven't seen it yet. Amusingly, I've got the wide-angle lens. But not that camera. Curses!
Oh, by the way dude, I can only find one of my Trip 35's... I think my parents might have taken my other one back to Australia. Sorry dude.
ach it's okay, thanks anyway
I've been planning on buying a Canon T3i for awhile now, and finally almost have the money for it. I was going to purchase the camera body along with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 image-stabilized zoom lens and a 55-250mm f/4-5.6 Telephoto zoom Lens. Opinions on this camera and set of lenses?
it's a great camera and you'll have a lot of fun with it, but you should think about if you'd really use that 55-250mm zoom lens. personally i see zooms are more of a niche thing. I'd recommend a 50mm f1.8 lens more than it, because it will help you get that "dslr" kind of look with the shallow field of focus.
This guy (Kentar 135mm f/2.8) came in the mail today. Any recommendations on FD to EF adapters with infinity focus?
Are those tripods with the ball head good for video? Or would a fluid head be better? I'm on a low budget.
