My brother got me a hot shoe level. Pretty nifty.
Got a new tripod. Don't really like the head though, any suggestions? (I do lots of video too) Also deciding what to buy next...a xbox 360, a 50mm 1.4 (or maybe even a 30mm) a new bag or a microphone.
What kind of tripod is it, and since you're doing alot of video try to get a fluid pan head. They're indispensable if you're doing video.
What kind of tripod is it, and since you're doing alot of video try to get a fluid pan head. They're indispensable if you're doing video.
It's a Sunpak 6600PG. Not the best tripod, as my mom didn't really know what to look for, but it should do fine.
Sweet lord I just found out my uncle has a RED & rig with what looks like a standard Cooke lens. That came out of fucking nowhere.
You know, I should probably get a polarizer for my 24-105 and 70-200. The B+W one I used on my 17-85 served me pretty well, so I think I'll stick with them. Is there really a significant difference between these two? Advice would be appreciated.
Whaddaya know, dad got an EOS 60D
Whaddaya know, dad got an EOS 60D
 Camera buddies!
Only difference is, I'm pretty much a first time user.. Got some courses that I'm gonna attend though.
I was too when I got mine. And that wasn't too long ago. Not even a year. Did you get the kit lens with it?
Yerp, 135mm's. Dad also got some wacko accessories for it, like a glass lens cover, lens cleaner and a Class 10 SDHC card.

I see. Is there anything I can do to become more acquainted with the camera? By that I mean useful toggles to know, and fun settings like making lights "follow" an object (exposure time I believe it's called?)
never use any mode below & including the green box don't use the built in flash unless you really need to exposure time is how long it's talking a photo for, like how much light it's letting in aperture is how much light the lens can let through ISO is how sensitive the sensor (thing that captures the image) is, this higher this this faster a shutter speed you can use, but the grainier the image will be
never use any mode below & including the green box
Movie mode is exempt from this rule. Also, shutter speed is how long you let light go to the sensor - longer times means more light goes in, so you get a brighter image but also motion blur. Use a tripod when using long shutter speeds. Metering is how your camera determines what exposure to use.
Read the manual. Take photos with it (Bonus points if it's not stuff from your desktop and/or your cat) while you fuck with the settings (Move the dials and some buttons) and see how different settings have a different effect. Take your first 100 photos and then show us what you think are the best. Good luck.
Don't be discouraged when you're criticized; we all were new once, and we all got the same treatment. You earn your way, and eventually you'll too be in the same position where you'll be critiquing and helping an aspiring photographer find their way.
I'll hit the forest if it's still bright tomorrow then. Oh look what santa (read: the producers) threw at me:
holy crap
The lens? The follow focus unit? The camera? The whole rig?
Nice! How do you like the Letus adapter, I've been looking into buying one for my camcorder?
The lens? The follow focus unit? The camera? The whole rig?
To bad I have to give it back in 2 weeks when the video is done :( [editline]27th December 2011[/editline]
Nice! How do you like the Letus adapter, I've been looking into buying one for my camcorder?
I like it really well but you should mess with it when you can since there is a lot of stuff that can go wrong. The quality is really good but this camera with the rig is about 18kg. This is the most expensive letus 35mm its around 6,000 euro's ($8000?) I would really recommand saving for this one because the mirror vibrates in this one so you don't see the weird still static from the base plate. On the cheapers models it doesn't vibrate so you see the still state at lower appertures.
