I was expecting a garbage ideas guy What I got was some really fucking awesome content Good luck with this.
Ahaha, glad you like it, thanks.
I don't think it's a good idea to belittle others' work and make fun of it no matter what you think of it if you're trying to get other people to join. Even the guy posting the brush stuff admitted that it isn't efficient for models and I suppose anyone who knows anything about 3d would agree. I suppose the only point he had was that it's possible. Fine it's possible but you don't need that and you're not interested so just ignore the rest. In a way I think you're both right but the whole argument is completely stupid and makes you look unprofessional and you might have scared off a few people who were interested before. Just my thoughts, no offense intended.
This is lovely. Best of luck.

I don't regret my decisions, other than the fact that cursing could always be avoided, other than that though I stand by what I say, as the argument itself came off as an insult to intellect. Again, sorry you feel that way, and sorry if anyone potential developers may also feel that way, but if something like that will automatically cause someone to think less of this effort and our goals, then I wouldn't want them on the team anyways. Regardless, what's done is done, and what's said has been said, the bottom line is I'm still interested in finding developers and what will be will be. I appreciate your input regardless, and you do make a good point, thanks. [editline]wat[/editline] And please do realize, I never at any point belittled anyone's work, it was only when I was constantly told that I was wrong in my decision and reasoning that I had to defend and criticize my views, at least this what I believe. If you disagree with this, I would suggest looking at his first reponse to this thread, and my first response to his response, and his constant badgering afterwords, and then my response. Either way, this is irrelevant and I really do not care at all about what has happened prior.
This is lovely. Best of luck.
Thanks, always appreciate the support!
Made this today: Dunno maybe you want it.. It have an still and light-swing idle animation, and you (obviously) need to edit the texture to add text to it.

But I also agree with the fact that you can use inefficient ways to make 3d models. You can even use notepad if you wish even though it's a waste of time. Not wanting someone on your team who uses notepad to make .obj:s for instance makes perfect sense...I wouldn't want someone like that either. The only thing I was trying to give some feedback on was the fact that a teamleader's personality affects the whole team a lot. A calm and diplomatic teamleader who is able to accept that he might be wrong is a lot easier to work with. If the teamleader constantly has to be right and has to prove his points all the time then that will put a lot of strain on the other members. I'm not saying you are like that or that you're wrong just that the argument seemed a bit immature and aggressive. I'm not saying I wouldn't have tried to prove my point as passionately as you either but it's always easier to be the spectator. All the best.
Well he did convince me to get 3ds max 2013 but I cannot find a smd exporter anywhere. Do I have to downgrade to 2012 as I have looked every place I can think of.
Try here: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/3DS_Max I'm using Maya 2013 with a smd exporter for Maya 2011 so the ones in the link might still work.
I tried the 2012 one with it but it did not work. I have all the others so I will try them as well. ---------- It did not work I will have to downgrade to 3ds max 2012. (At least it is only one version down)

I wish I had more support than just encouragement. I hope to see this finished!
I wish I had more support than just encouragement. I hope to see this finished!
Hey, don't underestimate the power of positive reinforcement! Appreciate it, thanks.
Why is this dying? Have you guys made progress?
I just found this thread. I'm very busy right at this moment so I haven't had time to read the thread entirely, but I'd be very interested in joining you as a concept artist. Examples of my work from newest to oldest I also have quite a bit of experience mapping for Source. I can't get my computer onto a non-filtered internet connection until the end of the month though, which means no Steam. [editline]11th June 2012[/editline]
I disagree, concept art can be useful even if you have zero content. Like pitching an idea for a movie script, concept art can communicate your idea and create interest in your project, even as a very early start up. Maybe a 3D artist will see some jaw-dropping concept art and decide he wants to be involved in your project. Of course, even at that you'd still need one and I'm not much of a painter or modeler. I really do wish I could help though. I notice your musical compositions have amazing artwork in the videos, do you know who did them? If they were created for the score perhaps that person would be willing to help you with concept art as well. Either way, I wish the best of luck to you all and I will likely be following this with particular interest, I hope you go far.
I agree. As far as I can tell from my personal research and question-asking, concept artists are usually employed before production staff (modellers, etc) in order to help define the style and design of the overall project and individual locations/characters/ethnic groups/weapons/vehicles/structures/etc. I say 'usually' because the role of concept artist does change somewhat from project to project.
I think also, for those who are interested in helping with development, we need a breakdown of the different aspects. I'm interested in locations, for instance, so it would be great to know the different planned locations, the intended styles and moods and purposes of each location, etc, where each location exists on the map, etc. Knowing the dominant culture of each town (eg, is it a barracks for the 'police'/guard-type player class, is it a farming town, is it an industrial (milling) town, is it a seaside port, etc) would be very handy as well. Is it a human town or a goblin settlement? Some immediate questions that I need to ask are; what is the sewer/mine/cave system? Is it a fully functioning sewage system for a building on top of that hill? Is it the guarded entrance to a mineshaft? Is it in use or has it been abandoned for years? All of this is important for us to know if we intend to lend a hand. Edit: Did a couple of environmental paintings trying to establish a more interesting style for the outside of the cave/sewers. Nearly all rocks would be hard brushes (not displacements) or models in order to eliminate that unnatural, smooth look. Can I say that I'm blown away by what's already been accomplished graphically. The lighting, colours and object design and placement is very well done. Based on the image in the OP.
Why is this dying? Have you guys made progress?
Haha, not dying, but progress is slower than usual. We've realized that this is our most ambitious progress and that it will probably require work throughout 2012, so we began on working on another gamemode that will be released within a month or two (or whenever Garry's Mod 13 is released). It's a Lobby/RTS gamemode: [IMG_thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/594718729248224059/0BE453E96D9807E1B81399DBB36B80C0061D398C/[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/650996245847511117/3D4170890C288426C41C280B419AC10E3A1AAC75/[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/648745092168714456/38849E1228EE27FA67339FF5794C510760FF5904/[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/GaewsS.png[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://niggaupload.com/images/2nTjA.jpg[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/nNBpn.png[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/oQ7PZ.png[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/QtAyd.png[/IMG_thumb] Do have some new HUD design though:
I just found this thread. I can add you via the browser-based Steam Community but I'm not sure that it supports chat? I've got skype and all the rest of it though, if that's easier.
