People who throw cig butts out the window.
One about hit me on the bike today. Felt like stopping picking it up and growing it their window.
related:
People who don't ash in my ashtray, when in my vehicle. There is a reason its there, people sitting behind you don't need ash in their face.
People smoking in my car and putting the ash out the window.
Yes, I'm sure my metallic paintwork will love your hot ash.
I'm going to get a no-smoking sign, it smells like shit.
So far most of my friends are respectful in my truck.
A- They dont smoke
B- They ride in the back and smoke
C- They gtfo
I can't stand when people smoked in my car. It was ok on some occasions, but my biggest issue was that I had a friend who was notorious for not cleaning up his ash, which often times ended up on my nice seat covers. Hell, I did provide chlorox wipes in the glovebox, all people had to do was wipe down where ever they might have got some ash.
I also really hate when people would drag in dirt or mud from outside, especially after I just cleaned my car extremely good. I drove a 1989 Chevy Cavalier that I bought from one of my best friends for $200.00. He had blown the gasket and figured it was just a lost cause. I needed a car, so me and my dad spent a few days bringing her back to life. When I started her for the first time in 9 months it was like a heavenly choir singing to me. I felt really proud, it was my first car, my first repair, and it was a relationship most people don't have with their car. Obviously I was extremely neurotic about maintenance, washing, and detailing the interior. The friend I had bought it from had a seriously bad leak somewhere that let water in when it rained which made the carpet absolutely disgusting. I ended up getting a carpet vac from a friend and made everything look like new. When he saw it for the first time he couldn't believe how new it looked; it actually made him a little jealous because he wanted to have the level of determination that I do.
Anyways, I took really good care of her the best I could; then one day I found out I was moving to Crete, Greece and needed to sell her off. One of my best friends needed a car, so I sold it to him for $900 with only 100k miles on it. I found out the other day that he's treating the car like absolute shit. The interior is completely soiled, carpets are torn and messy with fastfood and dirt, grime, and trash littering the inside. He hasn't changed the oil in the 9 months that he's owned it, and he some how lost the spoiler. It absolutely wrenches my gut knowing that he isn't taking good care of her; it's a good car and definitely deserves proper treatment.
I guess the whole point to this whole rant is that I absolutely hate people who do not take care of their cars. I'm an extremely clean and organized person, so everything I own tends to be clean otherwise it bothers me. I've always seen my car as my financial life line; if I didn't take care of it then I could find myself out of work. How do you guys feel about people who neglect their cars? I understand that it's their property, but seriously, if you take care of your car it will take care of you.
One thing that always annoys me with new cars is how the bumpers are covered in plastic.
This is an easy example:

What happened to bumpers being one of the great features of a car's design?
Why isn't it out there anymore?

Why did bumpers get shoved inside the car body?

My parents tell me to charge her haha. Fuel is expensive over here in Limeyland and most people understand that. But when I turn up and she needs to go just round the corner, which would be a five minute walk, that gets kinda old.

Pretty sure its something to do with cushioning pedestrians when you hit them :v:
Old bumpers do look cool though
The plastic is called a bumper cover. Mainly for styling and aero purposes.

I don't drive a car to hit people :c
They did the plastic for aerodynamic reasons and for safety reasons.
I hate the amount of plastic that goes into a typical car interior here in America. If I were to drop a large chunk of my money on a luxury car from what could be considered a luxury brand, I want to get a luxury car, not a plastic toy from a McDonald's Happy Meal. Is it really that hard to trim the interior in leather and wood?
I don't mind plastic if it is soft, or hard and out of site. Like, the inside of the glovebox, or the pockets on the doors.

You didn't have to let people smoke in the car, the only times I have done is when I've been out with my missus and it's been raining or we're on a long drive.

Well first off I gotta say that seeing your avatar in conjunction with this statement made me read it in Jeremy Clarkson's voice. Normally when he complains about interiors, I'm less inclined to listen since he thinks anything that any dashboard that lacks ivory or cedar of Lebanon is shoddy.
Although I must agree, the amount of plastic in cars today is absurd, especially in the interiors. I suppose that's for two reasons:
1) to make cars cheaper and more accessible to people who don't give a shit *cough cough* soccer moms
2) to make them "safer" *cough cough* Ralph fucking Nader

I agree. I also hate how 'tight' you feel in modern cars. You get in an old one and there's MILES of room to spread out in there. Get in a new one and it's like you're in a plastic fucking box. There's nowhere to put your legs except in the pre-defined, uncomfortable-as-hell position. You can't cross them under the front of the seat, you can't lean them against the door, you can't stretch out...wharrgarbl.
What grinds my gears the most about it, though, is the underhood plastic.

I thought that one of the hood's jobs were to cover the engine and not leave that job to even more plastic
Newer cars also have loads more accessories in them than older ones.
The plastic is just for people who show off their "engines", when they think that is how the engine actually looks.
Newer cars also have loads more accessories in them than older ones.
And yet they only need the same three mine does. Alternator, power steering pump, air con compressor. Increasingly the power steering pump is becoming redundant as well, electric power steering is starting to take hold, and I imagine electric water pumps aren't far behind.
Who knows, we may see a day where engines drive a couple of alternators and call it a day, with everything else being run electrically.
That'll probably be pretty soon actually
It would make belt service easier. And cheaper. One belt run across four pulleys. It may even bring with it better packaging, making it a bit easier to work on them.
i hate hydraulic power steering
I'm fine with hydraulic power steering. It's simple, it's effective, it's reliable, it's fail safe, and in performance applications it has better feel. Nothing wrong with electric power steering and as long as it's designed with a failsafe that doesn't jam the wheels in place if you lose assist I'll buy a car with it fitted, but there's also nothing wrong with hydraulic power steering.
feel is all in the steering ratio imo, thing about electronic stepper motors is you can dynamically adjust the amount/speed of assist depending on speed, g's, wheel position, or whatever form of electronic data collection that exists out there, you can also reprogram it to your liking. If it fails I doubt it will jam, it's just a motor
steering my car is like steering a loaf of bread, a loaf of bread with tons of grip
tldr wires>hydraulic lines
I know it's petty, but I cannot stand when someone says "Porsh"
Christ that grinds my gears more than anything, and I have no idea why
This shit right here

I prefer the computers to do as little as possible. I'll let them run the fuel injection, I'll let them handle generating the spark, and they're welcome to run the creature comforts, but beyond that? No thanks. I don't want a plethora of electronics masking an unruly chassis, and if that means my choice in sports car is slower around a track than yours then so be it.
If it fails I doubt it will jam, it's just a motor
It very well could if it's not designed properly. Chevy had a big recall in 2009 regarding electric power steering on most of their small cars from '05 to '09 because it would fail after 20,000-40,000 miles and become incredibly hard to turn the wheel, even to the point of being difficult to merge. source 1source 2 Now I'm aware it's gonna get tougher to steer when the assist conks out, but it should still be possible to steer a small car like a Cobalt without power assist at 70MPH.
Now, call me paranoid, but I drove my Ford for a week with no power assist. Once I passed 10MPH I could once more steer it one-handed. I had no trouble staying in the lane, changing lanes, going around corners and the like. It was a bit stiff but still easily manageable. I only had to fight it in parking lots. That should be possible for every car allowed on public highways, regardless of how the power assist comes about, and that's the failsafe I want designed into the electric systems.
Like I said I'm not opposed to electric power steering, so long as I can do the above if and when it fails. Everything does fail eventually, and I'm one of those oddballs that keeps the car as long as it is still structurally sound so such things are a big buying point for me. But if I can't steer it without power assist I'm not so sure I want to be driving it.
steering my car is like steering a loaf of bread, a loaf of bread with tons of grip
Steering my truck is like steering a video game car. The wheel feels like it's not connected to anything, you lean into the corner, and the reaction happens about a quarter second after the input is given. :v:
tldr wires>hydraulic lines
tl;dr: wires = hydraulic lines.
Also, should I start linking where people are complaining about the feel of the current 911s after Porsche went with electric power steering and completely fucked up the feel of their flagship? And why aren't the likes of BTCC, Formula 1, WRC and Aussie V8 Supercars using electric power steering? They could very easily do so, it's within the rules, but they still use hydraulic power steering. Elec PS is nice, but it is not the end-all be-all.
i hate electric power steering
its bad
I hate old people on the wheel. Most of them drive ridiculously slowly, go into roundabouts without even looking, stop 100 meters away from stops signs or skip them entirely, gotdamnit.
Another thing i hate is shitty cars with fart cans. One dumbass at my school has a 1997 opel corsa 1.2 with one of those, sounds like an american V8 monster, but when i hit the gas on my fiat multipla it's like the fucking thing is standing still :v:

this jackass at my school has a 1988 Mercedes 420 SEL that had farcans on it...but decided it wasn't loud enough
ready to hear what he did next? i'll give you a while to collect yourself first
he sawed off his exhaust manifold prior to the catalytic converter to make it louder
needless to say its fucking loud now and will be impounded next time it goes in for inspection because not having a catalytic converter is illegal
