That was so fucking badass, talk about future proofing your rig, especially when it's in your brain
[sp]Walter is a genius, literally - he knows enough about how the space time continuum works to have crossed over 30 years ago and kidnap Peter, he knows even more now to make a highly educated guess (or more likely, he did the math) to know that a black hole would form on the other side - and it very well could have if Peter assembled the machine correctly.
How it would set them back years is a very good question because the answers are carved in the paradox of time-travel.
How could they teleport back in time if their universe was destroyed by a black hole?
If they couldn't travel back because of the black hole, there would be no invasion in the first place, so there would be no reason to create the black hole. [/sp]
[sp]
Peter just assumed that if he put it together wrong it would blow up, he does assemble it wrong but it doesn't explode, at the end he comes back to confront the Observer as to how he could of configured it wrong.
The part with the observers chip - I seen that as the chip responding to him like the machine perhaps they're built from the same tech[/sp]
[sp]Well that's a good point, I guess I was making assumptions alongside all the characters. When the hole closed and sucked everything in I did assume that meant he had just created a black hole (since he was so sure it would), but you have a point that he may have just assembled it completely wrong. On the other hand, though, it still DID something, and it looked a lot like what they were trying to say would happen. I'd like an explanation as to why everything got sucked back into the portal if what he expected to happen didn't happen.
But also I have to emphasize that I think it's kind of silly that they have this technological device that just happens to fit together like puzzle pieces. I don't think that's how putting complex machinery together usually works, that's kind of "cartoonish", if you will. Also the parts look terribly specific, could he have even put it together the wrong way?
I may be griping a little bit too much, the episode wasn't awful I just felt like I wasn't delivered the science of everything like Fringe used to do. Even if it was made up science, they at least tried to make it make sense before. I'll wait for the next episode, and hopefully something is answered then.[/sp]

[sp]What I though was stupid was the the observers who made the device made it so that you can insert a piece upside down and cause massive destruction. Why would you even make the piece so it can be inserted upside down?[/sp]
[sp]So that the resistance wouldn't be able to use it.[/sp]
[sp]I know why the shipment arrived on time right after they chucked in the antimatter grenade and collapsed the first wormhole.
Seriously, this is time travel we're talking about. It probably DID cause a black hole in the future and it probably DID cause them years to recover, but after they stabilize the black hole and rebuild the parts, they can just send them back in time to 3 minutes after the first hole collapses.
This is simple stuff, I don't get why peter was so confused about it.[/sp]
oh, so many spoiler tags

Well he did just [sp]lost his daughter.[/sp] He isn't exactly in his right mind atm. Also [sp]impromptu spinal surgery.[/sp] No way a man thinking of all possible outcomes would do that.

[sp]Walter was confused about it too.[/sp]
[sp]So the guy was in the hotel universe for 20 years and it seemed like 5 days... When Walter went into that universe to find what he was looking for, wouldn't Peter and Olivia show up right behind Walter a fraction of a second later?[/sp]
Ohhh man. [sp]Peter is tripping fucking BALLS.[/sp]
It seems that they forgot to fill in the greenscreen in this shot when they edited the trailer, but I could be wrong.

God damn what an episode.
Peter is freaking me out a bit.
Also, [sp]empath kid is probably September.[/sp]
This season is getting better and better.
Peter Bishop is a fuckin' teleporting ninja bastard, and I love it

I was just thinking, in series 4 Peter jumped over the timelines, perhaps he can jump to a previous one some how. In series 3 there was an alternative 2026.
[sp]I don't think they really did much with the hotel universe, I was expecting more. I think the toxic air machine is stupid because the reason they went back in time the first place was because they earth couldn't sustain life, if the make the air toxic, the earth will just die again[/sp]
[sp]Walter was confused about it too.[/sp]
it's a week old and the episode is legally hosted on certain sites, but I'll use a spoiler tag just in case.
[sp]maybe they did destroy the observer's gateway in the future, but maybe here's one then one observer universe and rather many working togeather.[/sp]
Here's a graph of episode quality for this season:

I went full on nerd during the latest episode and about halfway through decided to [sp]go and calculate how fast time was moving in the original universe, and I came to the mathematical conclusion that for every minute within the pocket universe, ~2 hours passed by outside. Which makes me wonder how goddamn long Astrid was waiting outside...[/sp]

[sp] I feel like they're not doing what you just did anymore, working the logic of things out ahead of time and whatnot. [/sp]

May be time just doesn't work at a consistent rate in that universe. Didn't time in Walternate's universe speed up and slow down at a different rate to the normal universe ?
It doesn't need to be a constant rate at all, its a pocket universe. I wouldn't be surprised if time stopped or went backwards for shits sake.

No, because everyone is always the same age in the other universe. I think what you're referencing was just some sort of "universe frequency" (or whatever quasi-science thing they came up with to explain it) that they were showing was oscillating out of sync with the regular universe or something along those lines.

Yeah but then it sounds like you're just making up rules to compensate for the lack of explanation. "Wibbly-wobbly time bullshit" is the way they sum things up in Doctor Who because that show doesn't have to try to be scientifically accurate.

I agree, but there is the part where we pretty much know nothing about how a pocket universe would work in real life.

You have a point
[sp]I suspect that the ending will be a massive asspull in which they use the pocket universe/some technology to travel back in time and undo the impact of the Observers. Hell, I bet Henrietta will come back alive, soon... I just don't expect them to actually write her out of the story.[/sp]

It would make for a cheesy Hollywood ending, but I don't think I would actually mind that.
Oh, shit Peter
[sp]Peter and Walter are both becoming emotionless geniuses.[/sp]
[sp]Pretty good episode. The moment Peter started acting emotionless I knew for sure the episode would end with him pulling a bit of his hair out, though.[/sp]
God I just finished the fourth season today. How can I catch up to the current episode?
