I thought they stated that it won't timeline bullshit but peter was removed form existence but just enough of him remained to pull him back and the reason he thought it was timeline stuff because no one remembered him?

Yeah, I feel like I've heard a lot of people knock the show when they were just doing a "monster of the week" type episode, but honestly those were my favorites. It always felt to me like a more realistic take on an X-Files type premise.
