In the interest of being fair, skrillex isn't dubstep, most of his stuff is electro. Also, wubs and other electro synths didn't even come from dubstep.
A lot of it is just one guy trying to do what some other guy is doing and fucking up.
[editline]31st May 2012[/editline]
For example, this is dubstep:

see, problem is there's no subcategory that I've seen that differentiates the smooth electrosynth sounding dubstep you posted and the H4RDC0R3 S0UND1NG WUBWUB WHRRRRRRRRR JJJJJJJJJRRRR WUBWUBWUB dubstep that most kiddos like to use in their vidyas *cough*airsoftgi*cough*

Liquid dubstep is what you're looking for. Liquid started with DnB, then people realized that any form of electronica can be turned into chill stuff and moved into other genres.
Grifta is one of my favorite guys ever:

almost sounds like techno
Fuck apparently no plastic models exist of the Toyota Tacoma.
I wanted to start making exact replicas with my vehicles complete with mini fuzzy dice, custom bumper stickers and so on but its all ready failed. I doubt they'll even have a double cab version anyway.

Any guitar gurus out there, I have a question: what kind of strings should I get if I want a deep thick sound similar to Meshuggah or Amon Amarth?
You want really thick strings. I'd say probably Heavy weight. Alot of that sound comes from the pickup and amp/pedals though. You have to have a very warm guitar with dark pickups and a warm amp.
[editline]31st May 2012[/editline]
Basically no single coils or fender type stuff
Eh, I think I'm gonna pick up an acoustic instead of getting heavy strings for my Strat.
Don't forget that acoustic electrics are cool and jazzy.
Buy a Martin
I just want something cheap for $100 or less. I was looking at an Epiphone DP-100 or something.
and spend thousands on an acoustic that sounds just like most other acoustics

You will forever regret that decision. If you want a budget guitar I'd recommend an Alvarez or a Breedlove Passport series.
Not if it is a 1876 (random year I'm sure martin was around) guitar.
Would you say a Stradivarius, the famous year, sounds the same as another violin?
[editline]31st May 2012[/editline]
Seriously mang go to guitar thread.
[editline]31st May 2012[/editline]
It is always on front page of music section.
Obviously a dated guitar will sound different than a newer one, but I don't hear a difference between an expensive Martin compared to a cheap Yamaha if they were made the same year.
But I play electric primarily, so my ear is much more on favor of discerning the different tonalities of electric guitars.
I played a 1950s Martin just yesterday, and it sounded so much better than even the new Martins I played. But still, you can not say a Martin sounds the same as every other guitar because that's just plain not true. If you said Taylor, I'd agree.
But Cardfan, for budget acoustic guitars DO NOT get an epiphone. You're going to have to spend at least $200 to not have a total shit-tier guitar. I have an Alvarez that I like alot and I also like Breedlove's Passport series.

IMO acoustic guitars aren't worth more than $1500 to me unless they're really old.
It's all about the tuning man, Drop D tends to be a heavier sound.

If you sit down and play a Martin and a Yamaha or whatever back to back, you'll be able to tell the difference immediately. I'm not saying go out and buy a $3000 Martin, but the $700-$1000 ones are phenomenal and still reasonably affordable. It's like the difference between an Epiphone budget model and a Gibson Custom Shop. I'd never ever buy a Custom Shop, but if I had the cash I'd definitely buy the bare-bones Gibson over the Epiphone
Honestly if you're looking for a good little guitar to get you by, I strongly suggest a Fender Strat, modular to the fucking max. I've got this awesome rosewood fretboard and I'm looking into some better pickups.
[editline]31st May 2012[/editline]
Speaking of, can one of you show me to some nice Pickups?
I'd never buy a custom shop either, if you customize it yourself it'll probably be cheaper and you'll have everything you want in it.

I have a cheapo Fender Squier Strat that I pick up every now and then.
Gibson SG Standard
Epiphone G-400 faded, based off the '61 SG
Silvertone Strat copy I got for free
Hohner acoustic that my uncle gave me but it's currently a slide guitar (neck split where it meets the body, strings are WAY off the fretboard now)
I know my dad has a '73 or so les paul.
I have 1990's Ibby RG520qm that we built and a yamaha G-55

Wait did you put steel on a nylon stringer? That is usually how that happens. Are there slots on the headstock?
