You guys need to slow down, you're getting him all Tai'ed up! :v:
No, no they don't. You may have the highest drive to succeed, but that doesn't mean jack shit if you're born into a poor family and can't afford to go to college.
Conversely, socialism is forced equality of unequal people, and is just as unfair and just as flawed. Also, your criticism is not of capitalism itself, it is the lack of social mobility which is increasingly prevalent in the United States. There are plenty of examples dating back to the founding of our nation of absolutely ordinary lower-class people making their own fortune. In other words, what you just said is completely irrelevant because it's not inexorably tied to capitalism itself, rather the sociopolitical climate in which a capitalistic system exists. Nothing inherent to capitalism itself is working against a Bill Gates, Pope Leo III, Diocletian, or Henry Ford. After all, the same exact argument can be applied to socialism: You may be able to contribute the most to society, but that doesn't mean jack shit if you're born into a politically-unfavored family and have no leverage to get your ideas sponsored. What you're discussing is a political issue, not an economic one, and it is completely unrelated to the THEORY of capitalism.
Capitalism restores the Top-Down Authority model that Democracy was created to eliminate. As soon as you have financial inequality, you always have Rich over Poor, and the rich will win every time because they hold all of the power; power which they gained because they have all the money, and money = power in Capitalism.
Socialism restores the Top-Down Authority model that Democracy was created to eliminate. As soon as you have centralized delegation of resources and duties, you always have Party over Proletariat, and the party will win every time because they hold all of the power; power which they gained because they make the rules, and political control = power in Socialism. It goes both ways and it's all opinion. There is not a single person who can be the sole arbiter of Truth when it comes to economic models and politics, and you, me, and everyone else here are not exceptions to this rule. You can repeat CAPITALISM ALONE IS FLAWED until you're blue in the face but that is and forever will be nothing more than your own personal opinion, and one which is not a consensus or majority, nor demonstrable in any objective fashion. For every argument there is a counter-argument. For every example, there is a contrary one. The matter of what socioeconomic model is best is not a resolved question, opposed by hard-liners too stubborn to change in their ways. It's an open book, a debated topic, an unanswered question that shows no signs of being solved in the foreseeable future.
Vermin Supreme probably has THE BEST economical and political opinions I've seen in a long time. Gingivitis is what's really causing the problem here, not lack of social mobility.
CURRENT ORDERS: Fish Muffin- 2 capsules Foos- ??? FloaterTWO- 5 capsules Notrabies- 5 capsules Joonazl- 3 capsules Northy66- 2 capsules Cardfan- 3 capsules
I will take 5.
The novelty of having the camera will wear off soon. This is a short video, but it's airsoft related too. I set off two of my new thunder b's. The new shells are better. They blow up faster and I haven't had a misfire yet. Although now they're far too big to fit my current grenade pouch.
I liked the club level of MP3
I just bought a MOLLE Cummerbund, an IFAK, two smaller zip up pouches, and an M4 pouch for miscellaneous stuff all in dark tan. ~semi hi speed, all the drag~ Also just tested my CM035A for the first time. I think I'm in love!

I'm a Social Libertarian.
Perhaps I wasn't clear. I meant it's flawed as a theory because it contradicts itself even on paper. [editline]14th June 2012[/editline] I think the biggest problem is that people continually confuse Capitalism with Democracy, which we don't have anymore.
We don't have either anymore. We never had democracy, and now we have a semi-capitalist system. The rich get socialism (government subsidies, bailouts, legal tax loopholes) and the poor/middle class get capitalism.
For the record, I'm actually not a socialist. I'm a Social Libertarian.
For the record, I'm not actually a hardline capitalist, and I don't favor capitalism over communism. I play devil's advocate, but more than that recognize that every side has its advantages and disadvantages.
The rich get socialism (government subsidies, bailouts, legal tax loopholes) and the poor/middle class get capitalism.
I dunno about that. The rich get to enjoy (largely) hands-off operation of their industries, with minimal responsibility to the government through tax, while the poor use socialistic government institutions like Medicaid and welfare. We use a mix of both systems for all people.
Here we go guys another debate about a IFAPer's perspective.
At least this one isn't stupid bullshit drama and is actually interesting to read/an actual debatable topic
I can talk about my lack of romantic prospects of you prefer.
True it isn't about someone's crazy obsession or love life and more interesting, I guess I'm getting annoyed seeing a debate every time I open the thread.
I dont even remember the last time I saw a decent debate in here
