But you can call British people European, or Korean people Asian.
American could refer to anyone in any of the Americas. (North, Central, South.)

I thought it was KTLA5?
Ok, someone help me. Are people for or against this Kony guy? All I know is he has war crimes and crimes against humanity charged on him, plus he's the head of a terrorist organization.
they're against him because he's some huge asshole who kidnaps children then makes them sex slaves or child soldiers
they're trying to raise awareness of his crimes by making him famous
dunno though, Kony 2012 seems like some sort of ruse that appeals to hipster college kids, not saying bringing war criminals to justice is bad but I don't have a 100% good gut feeling about this invisible children thing, and my gut rarely lies to me
You're right. This has been going on since 2006. I'll save the bullshit since I've had to explain it several times tonight. There's some Popular Threads that explain it better than I could.
yeah, a couple years back Invisible Children came to my high school and asked for some of my money
I don't really trust charity groups that ask for my money right off the bat
i don't trust my money with people unless i research what's up first
i don't donate to red cross because of their discrimination against homosexuals
i don't eat at chick-fil-a because they donated millions to anti-gay groups
and i don't donate to ic because of their extremely shady business practices and blatant lies in their documentaries
My school might be having a fundraiser to buy AKs for the Ugandan army, I mean donate to IC.
just gon repost what i posted on the Kony Calgary FB event, in reply to one of my friend's posts
Kathryn Greenan
I support the stop Kony movement, I think it's great that our generation is banding together for a good cause. However, I do not want to support Invisible Children. Would it be possible to do with this what we are doing with the 29 hour famine, as in using our own materials?

Ryan Bills
I agree with this, Invisible Children isn't exactly putting down a reasonable share of profits towards the cause.
I'm not entirely sure if supporting IC at all is even a good idea to start with, it seems like this is actually supporting direct military intervention to achieve de-militarization. This would involve funding the local militias, and I'm not entirely convinced that the nation would be better off if the SPLA gained more power, taking into account their track history.
Kony is actually old news at this point, AFRICOM has sent out many (failed) missions against Kony, which only evoked further violence through his retaliation. I'm all for supporting change, but this doesn't seem like its going to achieve proper change. The ICC and Peace Accord has already brought down the child recruiting rates by 80%, which Invisible Children's biased and dishonest documentaries haven't really contributed to.
P much summarizes my opinion on the whole Kony/IC thing
You're right. This has been going on since 2006.
This has been going on since the end of imperialism in Africa. Kony isn't the first and he sure as hell won't be the last either. He just happens to be a great target as someone that can be easily painted as an unequivocally evil warlord, while assholes like Mugabe who have done far, far more terrible things can and do hide behind the facade of opposing foreign imperialism on the African continent. Funding rebels opposing a ruthless warlord can be justified by charities, while funding rebels opposing a 'legal' dictator, whether legitimate or not, and regardless of whether he's an equally terrible tyrant, can't be justified so easily because of the more direct political ramifications and inevitable accusations of imperialism and warmongering.
The only reason Kony is even an issue now is because it's politically comfortable to attack him- in a few months this movement will be gone. It is only the latest iteration of the 10-year cycle where some big 'save Africa from evil guy #217457' event pops up, and the modern world tries half-heartedly before realizing it isn't worth the time, money, or effort to go in and fix, and everyone quietly abandons the issue after sending a small tax-deductible donation that lets them feel better about themselves.
I have personally seen the horror and devastation these warlords have produced, and yet I do not give a single flying fuck about Kony. He is not the problem. The whole system he operates in is the problem, the state of the continent is the problem, the lack of direct foreign intervention is the problem. Kill him and another will take his place. Fund his enemies, and they'll just take over and do the same damn thing. We seem to have this ridiculous notion that throwing money at the myriad of problems in Africa will make them better, no matter how many times this theory is proven utterly false.
If this little movement goes beyond the usual useless sensationalism, then I'll be interested in it. As it stands, this is just a new retelling of a very old story, and the ending is always the same.
I love when people think that the Somali pirates were the first time America had to deal with the country. The millions of dollars of aid we sent into that country during the Clinton-era didn't make a damn drop of difference, and its the same for all of the impoverished broken nations of Africa.
It'll take more than cash, and more than a military intervention to change this one.
what happened

I am not sure if it is gang related, I know for sure 7 people got minor injuries, 2 seriously injured, 3 kids were arrested, several students were suspended or expelled, around 10-35 kids were brawling all over the campus, and all that happened during nutrition. By the time it was 5 minutes into lunch, more fights came on, and many students did "walk-outs". The only weapon used in any of the fights was a spork and a skateboard. Had a lock-down and took forever to get home unless parents picked you up. People kept saying it was racial slur that stirred up, but actually it was started by taggers and a few football players. Pretty funny, saw some Mexican push another one, then they started flailing their arms at each other. We had Helicopters, lots of cops and sheriff, and like 4 different news stations asking us for any videos of fighting.
