I thought it was funny when they said Octahedron was supposed to be an 'acoustic' album, but I guess it is a bit toned-down for them. I'm really excited to listen to all the songs; I've only heard a couple so far but they're great.
A friend of mine told me that The Mars Volta usually has a member or two that's really high when playing live, anyone know if that's true? I think the way they play live is really neat, the whole drawn out jam session type thing, you know.
They don't do unlegals any more.
Mars Volta...I am disappoint.
I still haven't gotten my copy. And I pre-ordered the t-shirt/album package a week before release. What the fuck is taking so long?
So I found out what was taking so long. My Mom was holding it until today for my birthday. :)
i don't care for most of copernicus, but i love the editing in that mid-section of the song
bum bum bum TISSSSSSSS ritititit
just caught me off guard my first listen
The chorus of Copernicus is the only part that REALLY bothers me. It feels weird.
Still stuck on the singles.
Cotopaxi and Since We've Been Wrong
I finally completed my Mars Volta cd collection by picking up scabdates, which is really fucking sick. Can't find live or tremulant anywhere I've been looking. I also picked up Omar's Old Money, and A Manual Dexterity and I grabbed Cryptomnesia a while back. Which of his other solo albums are worth picking up? I'll probably end up grabbing them all at one point or another but it would be cool to get opinions on which ones to pick up first.
You have the 3 best already I think.
Calibration is legit, so are Apocalypse and Se Dice.
Megaritual is decent.
If you want to get your wank on, get the self titled album.
If you want to listen to something that will give you a headache, get Despair.
Been listening the fuck out of the album driving through town. Taking one of the very few people I know where I live that actually likes Mars Volta (got her into them). We're gonna listen to the new album on our way. Should be fun!
Seeing them in 6 days.

Lucky bastard.
Holy fuck I love Teflon.
For real, that song owns. "Let the wheels burn, let the wheels burn." Sooooo smooooth.
Top 3 on Octa for sure.
Luciforms is up there with the giants like Cygnus and Take the Veil if you ask me, such a good song.
"My fingernail choir will make your chalkboard sing wawawawahwahwaaaaaaa"
The first time I heard that I started laughing; sweet release lol.
Just thought you'd like to know, I got this one book from the library, 1000 recordings to hear to before you die, and The Bedlam in Goliath is in it. One thing that really irks me is that in each one, they have a details of the album, and for "Catalog choice" they spelled "Frances the Mute" as "Francis the Mute" gah
Fuck me! In About 32 hours I'll be watching The Mars Volta!
Ambuletz is a underrated song. Shit is crazy and currency.
Also, who the hell does The Bible and the Breathalyzer?
The Bible and The Breathalyzer is a B-Side from the Frances sessions.
That's Cedric doing the spoken word, if that was your question.

Yes, thank you.
What are some good albums to get? I saw them live a few weeks ago but never really listened to their music before that. I've been wanting to get into them for a while though.
saw them at t in the park. really good.

Depends. I like them all, you could just start from De-Loused and work your way up to Octahedron - I find Octahedron a little more accessible
How was it, you lucky bastard.
It was absolutely fucking incredible. Best night of my life.
Came on with Goliath... it was actually amazing. Omar was going fucking crazy with his guitar and Cedric was whipping his microphone like a motherfucker; jumping on the walls during the "Never seen a man speak like this man before" bit.
Later on they played Cygnus, and kept it going for 40 fucking minutes. It was so bloody brilliant.
Viscera Eyes was my favourite song they played; it was so tight.
An unnecessary amount of moshing though; some people just don't know what band they're seeing, do they?
Someone started moshing in the middle of the Widow, but loads of us just stared them down until they stopped; was funny.
Overall, I cannot express with words how awesome it was.

If you want to get into the Volta I'd recommend Frances or Amputechture. They're the most mid-ground albums; Deloused being the most intense and Octahedron the least.
I found Amputechture to be incredibly hard to get into, actually I just got into it yesterday.
lol De-Loused as intense as Goliath? Surely you jest.
[editline]04:43PM[/editline]
From Intense to Least Intense
The Bedlam in Goliath
Frances The Mute
Octahedron/Amputechture
De-Loused in the Comotorium
Tremulant I have no idea.

I say De-loused is intense because of the style of music; its a lot more raw and dissonant compared to all their other albums.
Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt and a couple other songs, I'd put De-Loused above Octahedron on that scale, most definitely.

Awesome man. Sounds like a really great time. I look forward to the day I can see them live. I'm going to make it happen, even if I'm going to the show by myself!!
De-Loused is without a doubt their best work. This is the general agreement of the populace.
Anyways, on the subject of Teflon, I really like it. The lyrics don't seem very The Mars Volta-esque, but it's still great.
I am the conflicting factor of your general populace statement.
