I love both albums. They're both fucking fantastic.
meh... Thomas adds a cool sound, but his drums will never be as unique as Jon Theodore of Deloused, etc. The new albums really, in my opinion, will never be as up to par with the first 3. (that's with many many bands though.) My favorite album was Frances the Mute. Pure latin salsa.
Disagree. It's all good music and I love them all equally.
So the mars volta is coming to my town...should I go see them? ...hmm......... tickets are $40 jeebus!

I'd go see them if they were playing near me, but I'd have no one to go with. Nobody likes them.
Disagree. It's all good music and I love them all equally.
See I am the opposite. The Mars Volta is one of my 2 favorite bands, but I'm not going to like all their music just because they happen to be one of my favorites, but that's your opinion and I respect it. TMV still kicks ass.
I will agree that the first 3 albums are on a different level, but I don't doubt that they can top them in the future. And to whoever is asking whether or not they should see them live, do it even if you have to go alone.
Yes. Where will you be seeing them?
Yeah I am listening to the new album, and I have to go see them now. At minglewood hall, in memphis TN.

Rodriguez Lopez Productions put up a song from Xenophanes (Omar solo album, due out digitally on the 28th, physical release in November) up on their Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/rodriguezlopezproductions The title is "Asco Que Conmueve Los Puntos Erógenos", but they played it live as "New York City" during the Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group tour in March earlier this year, sans vocals. Fucking stoked for this record, it has potential to be his best solo work. Here's a rip if you dig it: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zzhzn2yikhy
I saw that. There's a couple Twitter accounts I follow for updates. You guys might be interested, if you aren't already following them, of course: http://twitter.com/themarsvolta http://twitter.com/ORLProductions and sometimes updates pop up on: http://twitter.com/sargenthouse
Xenophanes is stupid good.
Oh my god, Mars Volta are going to Big Day Out '10 (Australia).

What happened there
I wish they would come to Atlantic Canada. D: [editline]01:05PM[/editline]
What happened there
[editline]01:07PM[/editline] A girl died later that day from being slammed, as I recall.
Kay, alright, I just got into these guys and I'm loving them. Anybody got some good suggestions to some must-have albums?
de-loused in the comatorium
Frances the Mute and Amputechture. Octahedron also.
Deloused and Frances the Mute are my favorite albums.
Agree. I do like Bedlam, and Octahedron is very good too, but they don't compare to Deloused, and Frances the Mute.
I've just gotten into them and man was i in for a surprise! Deloused is my favourite atm, since it's got the best tunes and best drumming. It was a shame they fired John Theodore for Thomas Pridgen. Thomas is very good, but for me, John Theodore was more fitting for the music.
De-Loused is godsend. I've listened to that album about a billion times on my way out to class, between last year and this year alone (About an hour drive to my college).
Viscera Eyes is so good.
Amputechture is underrated. So good so good.
Amputechture is underrated. So good so good.
this this this
Amputechture is underrated. So good so good.
I couldn't agree more. The only tracks I really didn't love were Meccamputechture(it's just kinda meh) and El Ciervo Vulnerado(sounds too much like Vicarious Atonement for me to bother with), though.
http://omardigital.rodriguezlopezproductions.com/ Xenophanes streaming. God damn, fucking amazing.
I enjoy it more than Octahedron to be honest. Not a dull moment, start to finish. Every player just destroys, god damn. The piano feature in Asco Que is so dope! Such a solid album.
I think Octahedron is underrated too. Sure it wasn't like 1 epic track for the whole way through. But the songs were pretty good. Luciforms was very good. Since we've been wrong, Teflon, Halo of nemnutals, cotopaxi, copernicus were all great. I know it isn't as good as say Frances, or Deloused. But it is still a really good album.
